  1. Thanks everyone.. All great advice
  2. We're out fishing Lake Erie yesterday. I had a friend join us that has never caught a salmon or steelhead. The dipsy rod goes off and we hand him the rod. He had a total blast bringing this fish in. We get it in the net and my friend starts saying " ITS A MERP!!! ITS A MERP!! WTH is a Merp? This is Merp the walleye http://magazine.fishsens.com/merp-the-walleye-a-strange-hybrid-fish.htm This is Merp the steelhead. Anyone ever caught a Merp?
  3. What's a typical leader length? Using size#1 dipsy divers in erie for steelies, salmon and walleye. I've tried short 4-5 ft and longer 8-12ft. I have limited experience. I am curious if short leaders make fish more reluctant to bite or if there is no difference. Also. Does anyone believe dipsy colours have any effect? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  4. Should they get rid of opening day tournaments? When money is involved it likely promotes those to target bass before opening day for pre fishing. Just curious what ppl think of the timing of these tournaments.
  5. Still waiting in Zone 19. Why is it several zones open earlier despite likely having cooler water temps?
  6. Im gonna reconsider. Not quite ready to part with it yet
  7. 30$ on musky baits. Does anyone want to buy my musky gear?
  8. tilted down a bit from the first pic. They are picky transducers. Very fine tuning
  9. this is a pic of the transducers relative to the haul line. Great readings at high speed (40+mph) now
  10. The normal skimmer works great at high speeds when its hooked up. I leave it connected as a backup in case totalscan has problems.
  11. Might take a pic from the back. Be a better view
  12. here it is
  13. I figured it out lol
  14. well I totally forgot how to post pics, how do I attach files? lol
  15. here is a pic of the angle the transducer is
  16. That is the exact reason why I had it tilted up slightly before because with the transom of the boat being lower at rest I was trying to do a rough compensation to get a straight down picture. It worked good at rest. I could see my jig right under the boat in 40fow jigging right off the transom. But once I got up on plane I'd lose bottom pretty quick. I want the best of both worlds its some super fine tuning for that transducer if you ask me.
  17. And maybe you might be right. Maybe exaggerating. I didn't have a ruler just tried to get it more even with the haul and slightly and i mean slightly tilted down.
  18. Compared to where I had it with it tilted up slightly, 1.5 inches got it pretty level with the hull. I will post pics asap and you can see. 1.5 inches really isn't as much as you might think compared to how it was. If its angled towards the front of the boat it is very minimal and probably negligible for the water I fish.
  19. That is also an option, if you have any recommendations for a Huron charter id consider it. Thanks
  20. We get our fill of big walleyes this way. Looking for a chance at some kings.
  21. I live in the chatham kent area and have fished steelies in erie. I want to turn it up a notch and get a group together for the big O. Looking for a good charter out of the GTA for some big kings and also some suggestions on time to book. Thanks
  22. Way better. Tilted it down literally a smidge 1.5-2" and its all good!!
  23. JoshS I am talking about my 2D sonar not structure or side scanning. With proper installation your 2D sonar shouldn't lose bottom at higher speeds.
