Great discussion everyone. Thanks for replies. I just recently tilted it up thinking i would get a better view of structure scan when traveling at low speed due to the transom sitting lower at those speeds. Obviously that was probably my big mistake. I tilted it down slightly. I will follow up with results. I can see how a slight tilt of the transducer can really increase turbulence and disrupt clean water flow across it evenly.

That's likely less than an inch. They are picky transducers I guess. I know its likely due to water turbulence but man it's gotta be so exact or youre screwed.

Just bought a Lowrance Totalscan transducer the start of the year. I noticed when travelling 30+mph I lose my sonar view completely and sometimes my depth reading. Even when traveling 10-20+mph it's a crappy sonar picture. My old transducer would pick up great views at higher speeds. I could tell when I was travelling over a weed bed or a drop off going 40+mph. Not anymore. Has anyone had this problem? Could it be mounted wrong? I was told to try and have half the transducer below the hull and the other half above... if that makes any sense. Here is a picture. Any suggestions?

Thanks for thoughts, I had a friend of mine just tell me to use a bunch of dawn dish. Apparently it works well at loosening up any sticky stuff (oil/grease). When I looked into the bilge area it was definitely full of sticky looking dirt. Unfortunately its hard to reach all the spots with my battery out. Scrubbed what I could looks a bit better but the suds didnt touch anything i couldnt reach. Better than nothing i guess, Ran some suds through the bilge too and some of the water was pretty dirty.

well done!

I haven't been dumping my fish frying oil in there or anything.... I can imagine dirt, fishing line, crumbs, small leaves. This might be a good follow up to the post about hosing out the inside of the boat.
-
I was looking down in the bilge area through my battery compartment and it just looked like a grimey accumulation. I bought the boat used and I could tell the previous owner didn't take the best care of it. I just want to give it a good cleaning so my bilge can run in top form instead of sucking out junk.
-
How do you go about cleaning out the bottom of the boat? Can't imagine what has accumulated down there.
-
Silly question. Can you hose out the inside of a boat?

I bring my boat to the self wash a few times a year inside and out with a power washer. Just dont put your cover on after. Let it dry in the sun and crank your jack up so most of the water drains out. Boats were made to get wet. Just dont do anything to promote mold and mildew growth. I always open my compartments on warm days too and let them air out. Youd be surprised how much moisture can accumulate in your storage compartments. -
mine were due yesterday hmmm

I like my berts stuff but havent had much experience with others. I fish on my friends boat for steelhead, walleye and muskies with salties and I do find sometimes the salties are hard to pull the rod out of when you have a a crazy steelhead or a big musky thrashing. Bert's stuff is so expensive though thats the only downside. Not sure about scottys stuff, not familiar with it.

Such a hard answer for that one. I prefer whatever one catches more fish some applications is casting, jigging, drifting but great lakes walleyes trolling is the only way to go!

I've owned 2 bps auto/manual inflatables. I have had to replace 3 cartridges and bobbins in 3 years due to unecessary deployment. The hydrostatic ones are more money but will save you more in the long run if you have them go off for no reason like mine. Humidity makes the bobbins disintegrate so if you leave them on the boat in hot humid compartment they will go off. 40$ to recharge and get a new bobbin. Pain in the .....

This turned really funny. I usually use 6 or 8lb leader for my drop shotting application also for jigging walleyes in the rivers. I dont think 6 is too light and I dont think 10 is too heavy. I have had great success with palomar knots with fluoro but I find if you cinch it down wrong it will weaken the knot significantly. I think the 6lb vanish is just crap to begin with. Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I'm stealing that knot diagram btw so I can perfect that knot
-
So i tried the shaw grigsby knot on it. Its strong but its a bulky knot with 3 leads to cut. Overkill not necessary. I just want to tie my palomar and know its strong
-
Ive only used it a couple times in the field but when i tie at home and pull it breaks. I try it in the field when i pull and the odd time it doesnt break.

Ive had great success with trilene 100% pro and seaguar invisx. Why would they even put it on the shelves?
-
Thanks ppl! What a waste of money.

I bought a spool of this stuff a while ago. Started using and half of my knots break. I tie a palomar and I tie it right. I want to use this line for jigs and drop shotting for great lakes smbs. No confidence in this line or maybe the knot strength. Anyone with similar issues? Anyone ever get a bad spool? Should i throw it out or does anyone have some knots that they have had good success with with this line? Thanks

NM figured it out

how did you get 5 for $15. Says 5 for 20 plus 10 shipping

definitely going to look into 1000cca agm . I currently have an 800cca.

I have also been reading that some ppl have had problems using anything other than a cranking battery for their verados due to the ecm not recognizing the power source. (or something like that) LOL
