Question about Native status and fishing in my boat
Old Man replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
That bares an uncanny resemblance to one on my favorite spots on a little Lake Trout lake near me. Nice painting. -
Question about Native status and fishing in my boat
Old Man replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
I guess the OP's question is, how is it handled when a status and non status person are fishing together in the same boat? How does the CO handle the situation if there's over a non status limit in the boat, or slot size, number rods etc? I've never been checked while fishing with status friends, but then again, they've always followed the same rules I do when fishing with me so it's never mattered. -
Question about Native status and fishing in my boat
Old Man replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
There is 11 different treaties that were signed from 1871 to 1921 in different areas covering different bands and also numerous bands in some areas of Canada that are non treaty, and although I'm not sure, I would guess that there maybe some variation in the rules. It would be interesting know more. -
Question about Native status and fishing in my boat
Old Man replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
Well I'm amazed that you know who I fish with. I live 1 km away from a reserve and spend quite a bit of time with friends from the reserve. All I said in my 1st post is to repeat what I've been told by them. My neighbor 2 doors over is also status and we ice fish ever year together. So I guess all my 1st nation friends are lying to me -
Question about Native status and fishing in my boat
Old Man replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
As to the OP. I do fish from time to time with friends that are covered under Treaty 3 and they each have explained to me that when they fish with a non treaty person (such as myself), they are obligated to follow the rules regulations that a non treaty person has to follow, with the exception that they are not required to hold a license. As far as the comment of "I would guess that he would have to live on a reservation to qualify." has no bearing on being status. A great proportion of status 1st nations people live off reserve. The reserve nearest me has over 3000 band members but only about 10% of the members live on the reserve. -

crazy thunder storms and flyfishing for crappie.
Old Man replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I had kind of figured out where you were when I watch the video. Action at our end has been hot & cold. Had some excellent days and some real poor ones this year, nothing in between it seems. I'm going to try a few lakes with in the next few weeks for a change. Was thinking of heading to the one east and to the north of our place, but having watched your video, I might have to head west instead. Watching your buddy with the fly rod made me go dig mine out. I may have to spend a bit of time practicing, it's been a long time. I'm pretty low on flies, so it looks like I'll have to spend a bit of time at the vise as well. -
Here's Ontario's Health view on the subject. Mosquitos

crazy thunder storms and flyfishing for crappie.
Old Man replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
Great report Simon. The weather certainly has been a challenge lately. Haven't had the boat out for a couple days myself, but last night the walleye were hitting like crazy off the end of my dock. -
Just proves, everyone hates their landlord.

So how's everyone making out with musky this year?
Old Man replied to Dontcryformejanhrdina's topic in General Discussion
You're obviously fishing in the the wrong spot. Muskies are no problem out here. -
Great job. A lot of brave men from a generation took their 1st flights in a Tiger Moth. My hats off to all of them.

The best thing for Dandelions, if you can afford the price. Lontrel

Are you sure the tank vent isn't plugged up?

You got to just love those days when everything works. Great report and nice to see you back.

I'm one of those many guys. Usually out in the boat 2 to 3 times a week and rarely take a picture.
-
Great to see someone had a good opening day Simon. I wish mine went as well as yours' . All I managed was a couple of northern's, a walleye and a big rock for the bottom end. Looks like I should have stuck to shore like you. A person likes to think they know all the hazards on their lakes, but there always seem to be one more to discover.

Environment Canada just ended the "Watch" for Dryden. It's still in effect for Ignace.
-
Me too. We are a lttle drier then normal, but not a tinderbox yet. Hoping for a good steady shower for the garden's sake. Environment Canada had forecast 25mm by now, my guage is only showing 3mm. Hope more is on the way.
-
From the radar and satellite . It look's like Ignace may catch the northern edge of it, while Atikokan may get most of the severe weather.
-
It's just a "watch", not a "warning" ,at present. Trust me, I've seen much more threatening skies then what I'm looking at right now.

Taking a few precautions isn't a bad idea, but I've spent a large part of my life on a farm in western Canada and have had to deal with my fair share on mice, rats and other rodents and haven't ever gotten sick from it. We had a family of mice move in and nest in the cab filter compartment of our combine one winter and by the time we discovered it late that summer when servicing it for harvest, it was a stinking mess. The chewed up a $100 cab filter an pissed and crapped every where. We cleaned it up the best we could and replaced the filter, but that cab stunk of mouse piss until the day we traded it off. I got stuck running that combine all harvest and hence developed a real hatred for all types of rodents. I say. kill em all.
