  1. I barely mustered up the energy and the will to start a garden shed last year. Gonna productive spring/summer for you?
  2. If you need parts, try Bent Toys in Redbridge, ON for spare parts. PM me first, the owner is my neighbor.
  3. Syrup for seafood. Good deal on both sides! I wasn't home Saturday, then on Sunday two of my buckets were overflowing. Never had that happen before. I partially boiled my sap on Sunday, I'll finish it this weekend with whatever I collect over the rest of the week. We still have 1.5 feet of snow in the bush, this season is far from over for me!
  4. Im just glad you didn't miss that bite. In all seriousness, I'm glad it worked out. Consider it practice with the intent of never doing it again That crust walk with Little Fisher sounds awesome. I've been doing the same with my girl
  5. Awesome! Bring 'er up here for some summer fishing and trailing! As far as the stator, I've never done the Yammy's, but I changed the stator in a couple old Honda ATV's and it was quite easy to access. THey were a bit finicky to adjust, but the access is easy and the part was cheap (used).
  6. Have any of you guys tried your hands at birch syrup? I heard the sap runs fast, I might collect some just for a few drinks of the sap.
  7. Ha! Troublemakers. In that case I'm glad they got fined heavily for the fish. Dummies.
  8. Don't bother with Beach Lake, unless you know something I don't. The Brook trout are probably there, but it's also loaded with small Bass and Pike now. I've never caught any trout there.
  9. "Insurance isn't mean to cover stupidity or negligence' Actually, that's exactly what it's meant to cover! Stupidity is built right into every policy. Now, negligence of the law is a different matter, and insurance won't cover those acts... such as a guy driving onto super thin ice with the intent of getting a new vehicle via full replacement coverage. If they can prove your intent was insurance fraud or criminal, bye bye coverage.
  10. 2,400 in total. 6 undersized. Risky business trying to keep a few stinking fish because you feel entitled.
  11. The fishing around Marten River can be tough. If I were to chose a "back lake" I'd go directly to Wicksteed for pike and pickeral. That's a great Lake! I know of a few small lakes in the area lakes that hold great numbers of good sized pike and bass, but I won't post them here Marten Lake has decent walleye and lake trout fishing, and Marten River can be decent for bass and walleye.
  12. "..no nonsense type of guy.." Ha! I'm not going to bash a dead guy in his RIP thread, but that comment is hilarious and couldn't be more inaccurate. his politics may or may not have been good for Toronto ( I have no idea I don't live there), but good or bad, absent of nonsense he was not.
  13. That's really good. I clearly need to watch for freezing tanks then I picked up a burner base that has a banjo style burner and is 65,000 BTU. When it goes it goes but I also need to keep my 50L pot less full to get optimum evap.
  14. I've never heard of a vehicle through the ice get denied coverage; to put it another way, I've never seen a personal (commercial is different) vehicle owner get left to recover a vehicle through the ice on his/her own dime. Imagine how many vehicles would still be at the bottom of the lake if people had to pay $20-50 grand to pull out there own vehicle? It just doesn't happen this way. just yesterday I asked this exact question to the owner of the company that does many, if not most, of the ice recoveries in Ontario Your broker is likely not reading the wording in your policy, he is just going on instinct or false information.
  15. Cold attacked us too. Same as Sinker, my trees run for a couple hours if they are exposed to the sun. We got 3L from 110l of sap, then a jar broke and we ended up with 2.5L. What do you guys get for an evaporation rate? I got around 7L per hr. My propane tanks kept freezing up so my burner didn't run at optimum all day
  16. Good, you were worried it would be a short season. You may end up doing well Do you guys maintain the forest, ie manage the trees for optimum growth and sunlight exposure?
  17. Boiled down 100L yesterday. Finishing it up this morning and hoping for 2.5 to 3.5 L of syrup. We have LOTS of season left! Even at -1 daytime temp, the sap is running and we still have 2 feet of snow out there.
  18. From 34 taps Ive collected just over 100L thus far. The cold will stop it for a bit before the real run starts. It looks like it'll be a good year. I'm hoping for 10L minimum, 15 or more if the season is extended
  19. Olive the Lake lodge is apparently quite 'nice'. Never been, but I fished that area for years and that lake can be quite good at times for pickerel and pike and bass.
  20. That was a Tea Party instrumental, right? Great compilation.
  21. I'll be changing my truck tires today I hope, but I'm switching from studded winters to my summer All-Terrains (snow rated too), so it's not a big deal to have it done early. At least I'll beat the crowds.
  22. It ran great yesterday. 34 buckets out by 2pm, over 20L of sap. I expect better today... gonna be a beautiful day!
  23. I'm just about ready to hit the bush and tap 20 more. I'm betting the run has started today or yesterday .. We'll see
  24. I have no idea if these are legitimate records; the perch record on that site seems small as well..plus a guy just sent me pics of 16" perch caught on Lake Superior!
