  1. I can probably guess Was it in your last fishing video??
  2. Haha. I just bought a new knife, so I'm having filleting withdrawls as well. It's been over a week since i've caught a fish!!
  3. It's just a term for any fish that has "regs" applied to it. For example herring have no catch limits (at least not in my FMZ), so their not considered a sport fish. I guess a herring is just a "fish" . Non-sport fish can be used as bait as a whole unit.. like fallfish or mooneye etc. You can't put a perch on a hook, but from what some have said here, you can use the non-meat parts of a perch for bait. Someone please correct me if I'm off.
  4. You cut the head, gut it, then filet? Don't you like the crunchy tail? haha.I've never seen that before. Looks tasty as heck either way!
  5. Fishing, one of the things that can be just as much fun alone as it is with friends. Sounds like you got some good exercise ... Never a bad thing. Thx for sharing!
  6. So friggen jealous hahah. Great unit Mike. Has anybody warned the Quebec walleye yet?
  7. Nice! Lingfest! Will u be there during prime time tonight? I might want to come for a visit
  8. Don't hit a rock with it. "BOINGGG". Heavier is better with those things, my bro has a real old one made with a wood handle and a very large metal tip and its very heavy.. Three hits and he's thru 6 inches of ice. My 4inch finbore is still faster though hahaha This should made your early season/unknown lake adventures a little safer! Nice piece!
  9. Do you fish that spot in the summer too? I think I recognize it from one of your summer posts. Great video, very cool to see you pull a fish up! I've never tried that paste before, I'll have to try it the next time I'm hunting for specs. mmmm la truite mouchete!
  10. Awesome! That's what I'm looking for too! A feed of perch to sustain my freezer... Maybe in a few weeks I'll hit my hot spot on nipissing. Those are some real hogs too, how big is the biggest one? Probably around 15?
  11. Great job with the editing... Something I couldn't do even at an elementary level. Late season success like this on the big water must be very satisfying.
  12. Quite true... Although its technically not polluting, its littering. You can get fined for littering with an apple core or banana peel as well. Either way, I'll have to try this finnish stove some day, its deliciously simple!
  13. Some of the recent threads (top 4 pages) should give you a good idea of what is working. At the very least, a Nipissing rig AKA minnow and hook works best. If you get a chance, stop at North Bay outfitters and pick up a Jaxon spoon or two, they have produced better than average for perch, ling and walleye.
  14. I always liked a 4inch, pure silver jigging spoon. Mine are made by Jaxon and looks like a smelt or big shiner. Works wonders especially when the fish are aggressive.
  15. I was thinking that too... Old lure, unused lure, opened box..as long as its not a rusty, hookless chunk of lead (unless a sinker), the prize pool will accept it!
  16. In that case, let's do a "deuce and a lure" for the derby prizes. I'll bring a box and a few things to ante up the prize pool. Blairs suggestion works for me; most fish and biggest fish split the pot. If your attending, try to bring something like a jigging spoon, jig heads, hooks etc to pitch into the prize pool but no hard feelings if you happen to forget. Old minnows don't count as a prize. Haha. ..And the derby organizer CAN participate! I'm predicting a pre-hooked 10lbs ling on my third line takes all...
  17. She's the Walleye queen indeed! Nipissing doesn't always produce but you guys did very well. Great report Frank.
  18. How about a twoonie and a lure? I'm gonna jig me up a 10lbs ling this year... watch out boys!
  19. The big nickel center is a great place as well. Get them to bring a few nice rocks and do some "trade-ins". You might end up with rockhounds for life... it got me hooked
  20. I'll gladly pitch in a lure or two for such a derby
  21. I typically use 20lbs, nylon coated micro wire with whatever design/color suits me at the moment. I'll use 14lbs mono if I need that added stealth factor. I also make mini ones (go-getters) for specs... they work amazing with a piece of worm. For hooks, it's typically the bait holder Mustad Ultra Points. I prefer the "red" hooks because they don't rust. My girlfriend sees it as making crafts, so she usually lends a hand when I'm making them haha.
  22. Nipfisher posted this a few pages back: Here is some Hotel/Motel info. for those staying over night and needing accomodations. The closest hotel is Terrace Suites but that is alot of cash. Next closest is Pinewood Park (Clarion Resort) but it is expensive too. The closest cheaper hotel is the "Adult Entertainment" Moe-ze-on Inn (705) 494-4915. My suggestion is one of these three places. Arizona Motel 705-472-0800 1078 Lakeshore Drive North Bay, ON http://www.arizonamotelnorthbay.com/ The Lincoln Motel 705-472-3231 594 Lakeshore Drive North Bay, ON. http://www.lincolnmotel.net/ Glen Garry Motel 705-472-1085 785 Lakeshore Dr, North Bay ON, All are less than 10 minutes from where we will be fishing and are affordable and comfortable. I can arrange to get minnows if that makes it easier. More info to follow.
