  1. Lake of Bays Pale Ale Muskoka Premium Lager ...you'll find like your at the cottage with both
  2. Will you be fishing Marten River itself, or the surrounding lakes or Marten Lake? Also, just a reminder that Wicksteed is closed to winter fishing. There is some good fishing in the nearby lakes but you need to know how to get to them. You can PM me if your looking for info on specific lakes in the area.
  3. That's a monster. You'll be hard pressed to find those in marten river. The ice is safe in that area, but lots of slush on some of smaller lakes that don't get wind swept. If your fishing the back lakes, I hope you have a sled. Its tough to get anywhere with a truck right now.
  4. No, the fish was quite fresh and not frozen. I should have rolled it in the snow while I was on the ice. I'm happy about the flavor too. They are biting on a regular basis now, so why not keep a couple? It's better than chucking it on the ice like a lot of people do.
  5. I recognize that spot Drive around the north side of the island and you'll miss the p.c.

  7. Tonight I ate baked ling with a light cajun spice rub. Overall it was very good. Not walleye great, but good. The "poor man's lobster" term definitly comes from the texture of the meat, which is oddly similar to that of lobster. I had lobster a couple nights ago so I was able to make a fair comparison. The strip of meat along the back is nicer to eat than the belly or tail meat. I'll certainly keep ling again, but next time I will partially freeze the fish before I clean it.... it's very slimy/slippery when it's completely thawed out, making it difficult to filet.
  8. Thanks for checking, Bruce. It may be possible to get a single shirt as a "small package". But that also costs over $5. So yes, shipping costs would be higher than $4. Idealy, our "broker" would live near Shoemaker which would further reduce shipping costs and simplfiy the logistics.
  9. How about this: one person to collect the orders (sizes, how many, shipping address, email address/phone number). That "broker" would also receive the funds through their paypal account (or cheque) and that "broker" would then forward the printing fees to Shoemaker. The $6 charity money would also be forwarded to Fishing for Tyler by the "broker". Shoemaker would ship all the shirts in one lot to the "broker". Anyone placing an order would let the broker know where they want the shirts shipped; the buyer would have to pay extra for shipping. Buyers can also purchases for multiple people. For example, Nipfisher could place an order for 10 people in North Bay. Those people would then pick up the shirts at their leisure/availability by making plans with Nipfisher. I figure a single shirt would cost $4 regular post to ship. So if the shirts cost $14: $4 goes to printing, $4 goes to shipping and $6 goes to charity. If the "broker" makes a bit of extra cash, because there are a lot of multiple orders they can just add that to the charity purse. What do you guys/girls think?
  10. Looks tasty Mike. Maybe that's the recipe to try with Ling
  11. 5 keepers. A few big fish were missed too.
  12. We moved slightly off the spot today and caught a few nice perch, 8 walleye and a big slimy ling. It was very windy today but it was a great day!
  13. I froze the ling and took it back out last night. Tonight or tomorrow will be the test. I had lobster last night, so I can really test that "poor mans lobster" theory. Haha. Bassassin and I are going back to the spot today. I'm hoping for more perch so I can freeze a few bags and eat them during the "off season". I will report back later
  14. Thx for posting. I'm going out today for what I can only hope will be a "limit" day.
  15. Big, meaningful points are up for grabs tonight. Both teams need to stay in the playoff race. Ottawa is down 2-1 right now and Toronto has looked like the better team over the past 5 games. For the record I'm cheering for the Jets. I'm predicting 5-3 Jets tonight.
  16. I'd give them a little more credit than that. I drive that sucker sideways to widen my holes, haven't had a sheathe on it for 12 months, drag it around, drill over 500 holes per season and it still cuts pretty good. It's getting to the point where I need to replace the blade but I'm sure I've dropped it face first on asphalt a couple times.. oops. If my steel blades got dulled on a piece of weed ...well...I don't know what I would say about that. Frozen Fire, If your handle is bent, I'm quite sure that will affect the angle of attack. If your blades show no sign of wear, I'd say they are just fine. Get a hold of a distributor and replace the handle. Sounds like it's seen better days anyway. Got a photo?
  17. That's very interesting Bruce. It's funny how quickly we forget about weather. There are always those anomalies like 100 year storms, records colds, record dryspells etc... but they seem to leave the general publics mind within a few short years. Nature will care for itself in the end, but it's good to see people helping out when they can. Skip, are you saying "to hell" with all dying bears just so you can go play pocket perch with your pals?
  18. Hahaha. If only I had the ingenuity to point the exhaust away from me while drilling. Duhh.
  19. Haha I didn't quite understand until I looked back at the photo It almost looks like my uncle is about to pull a pistol out of his jacket pocket too. This will be a good test for me to see if I really like the meat or not. It's funny how the fish weighed nearly 7lbs, and i only got 1 or 1.5lbs of meat off of it. These things are ALL head and guts. Thanks Jacques. It was a good start to my season, but then things slowed down. If you were in my area, I'd invite you over for some walleye wings and cheeks and a hockey game. I have a whole bag of cheeks and wings collected from the past year of fishing!
  20. Sure, but not as cute as a ling. Good going Bill. Sounds like you had a great weekend of fishing. If only we had rivers like that around here...
  21. I was at Billy Bob's bait in North Bay yesterday and they sold me a blade cap with strap for $5 for my Finbore Micro. They also showed me a catalogue with replacement parts... next time I go back I will get the name of that distributor and maybe you can call them for new parts.
  22. Killer! Every one of those fish would be a highlight moment for me.
  23. That would be great. Even tough its driveable by truck, I'd still rather go by sled... Less worries if the wind or snow bury the tracks. I was out last night at deepwater point and didn't get a single bite, neither did my buddy in a neighboring shack or the others in my group. Even my "spot" was slow tonight compared to what my uncle saw last week. they have to feed sometime, so things should turn around.
  24. Nice PB!!! Fantastic fish and I bet you'll be thinking about that double header for a few nights.
