well, me nad my buddy are headin up to his camp on lake kabenung (dunno if I spelt it right) from friday to wednesday. trying to finally get some big pike and walleye. but hoping for specks too!!! It would be realllly sweet if someone knows a speck lake I could hit up for just my limit. I got tight lips so dont worry about me tellin ppl!! I know I had a post about obatanga before and some fella gave me the name of a little speck lake/pond but I completely forget where it was and even the name. I just remember it is a stocked lake and it's in the area. any walleye/pike lakes/tips for the area would be great too! hopefully I can get some info by tomorrow mornin and if not I'll take it into consideration for next time I head out! thanks, JNP

my second report! fishin was alright towards the evening.... which is when my luck usually hits me. started off with a 9lbs pike that we lost boat-side. carried on with 2 walleye. once again, nothin special. biggest 17" smallest 16" which is usually the average for the lake. 40+ inch pike in that lake though! but the action wasnt too hot in the north end. I dont have a fish finder yet so we just trolled with some worm harnesses for a spot to jig. changed colours a few times, the orange with black dot 2 blade 3 hook harness seemed to be the ticket cause I was the only one catchin the buggers. were there from about 10:00 - 7:00 (late start cause of weather). talked to a couple fellas who were fishin the south end and they werent there for longer than 4 hours and got their combined limit of 8 by jigging with minnows and worms by a weed line. but of course it helped that they had a fish finder. in all a fun day though. Enjoy the pics. like I said nothin special lol. north end of the lake (some of it) trolling grounds (some of it lol) the fish.... x2 oh and the pic was taken just after gutting them and gettin them ready for transport. Just gettin into town.

c'mon, leave the novice alone now..... -
a few people pretty much making fun of the hunter.... wow.hunting has nothing to do with the attack. "everyone knows not to climb a tree in bear country....yikes" actually thats false. climbing a tree is actually very safe. even though black bears CAN climb. climbing a tree yourself is still a little safer than staying on the ground. my grandfather (retired forest ranger) has had many, many different encounters with bears. about half of those exit strategies involved climbing a tree. in his early days he ran back to the truck a few times with the bear in hot persuit. he admits that wasnt a smart idea. but trying to scare the bear away is your best bet. unless.... you know..... their not scared of humans. then wouldnt that really suck?

Lifejackets to be mandatory in Canada/Ontario?
pike n' whities replied to cram's topic in General Discussion
I don't care much for wearing mine all the time. If i had one of the $200 inflatable ones. sure i'd wear that 24/7. at least it'd be comfortable! but I don't wear a life jacket unless the weather gets nasty or im doing a speed faster than trolling. other than that no life jacket. only 24/7 when im in a canoe. everyone here has a valid opinion. but it should all come down to personal choice. at least in the hands of an adult anyway. I don't bring young children in the boat anyhow. anyway, thas my opinion.... -
I'm here! and TRYING to put up a speck report with pics. but the fish aren't co-operating, and when that happens I usually dont take pics. It's amazing that Dangles still checks this site out once in a while

Well, earlier today we went on an adventure. took the van up an old logging road. well more than one old logging road and a couple new ones. some places you would want a 4 wheel drive half ton but we made it real easy! our secret is how we pick or spots and take our time, lol. the dam on the pond we were gunna fish broke. so its kinda empty. it was a pretty vast swampy area. the ground should never be as firm as it was but with the weather lately thats the way its goin. we drove up one road and saw a pond. but by then we already called it a day and besides...... there were no trails just more muck. anyhow there was a few BIG piles of old branches and what not. dry as a bone. so guess what, if lightning hit that.... well you could just imagine the fire. im surprised the bush is drier than a popcorn fart. up here it is anyway. and the level of my favorite (active/live) creek is way down. holes are deep enough that nice specks will be in there by the time it opens again in june. in all it was a fun day. dog filled with mud to her chest and bikes caked with the sticky stuff. made a mess of the inside of the van too ..... shoulda took a few pics. lots of BIG moose tracks. odd wolf tracks too. bear poo around but no bear prints we did however get a few nice strikes in the creek comming from the pond. no commitments though. that about sums the day up. besides the interior van clean up and scrubbin the puppy down. sooooo many trails for quads and dirtbikes! cant wait till fall so I can finally get that dream quad hope everyone had a good ol' time out there this long weekend!

Carrying a tinnie on the roof of a van ?
pike n' whities replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
Well, I aint tryin to rain on your parade bud. but I just suggested you look into it. but by all means give 'er and have some fun. And Gerritt, I have taken plenty of risks with my van. its still a daily driver till I can get my truck when contract negotiations are over. my old truck ('87 f-150 4x4 351 windsor with 8" lift and a pair of 34" Super Swamper SSR's) went through alot of stuff too! it finally died 4 years ago on me. alwyas good to take some risks and have a little fun eh? -
Carrying a tinnie on the roof of a van ?
pike n' whities replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
may i point out (since no one else has) that the roof has a maximum weight load.... the one on my olds silhouette is 75lbs max. cap. I considered puttin my 14' on but didnt after I looked that up. I'd invest in a trailer if i was you! theres alot of places i made it with my van. some VERY surprising places too. its too beat up to take those risks now though haha. -

Freakin great job boys! but, i gotta say. I've been through worse roadst han that with the 2001 olds silhouette and shes still runnin strong! besides the chrome on the rimms peelin and causing a few problems. but thats what the truck is for when the contract negotiations are over!!! cant wait to get out there for some REAL fishing this year. specks, lakers, pike, walleye and bass are all gettin in the boat this season! with the exception of a few other odd fish. -

Electric Lawn Mower and small engine repair
pike n' whities replied to charlesn's topic in General Discussion
okay, i know nothin of the electric lawn mower.... now that we got that out of the way.... I'm getting mixed signals here. you say it sounds like it wanted to start but wouldnt crank? if the engine itself turned over that means the electric motor did its job "cranking" the engine over. if the engine wont turn over it may very well be the sulenoid. As others have said, could be old gas, but thats if the engine is turning over though. let me know exactly what you mean here, then i'll be able to help -
Just lost a friend today to the big C
pike n' whities replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Sorry to hear that bud! I know how you feel... I've lost a few good friends in my time which actually hasn't been very long. I'm still a youngin' yet. One of those friends (by the name of Kyle Lamb) happened to be either 13 or 14 (my memory is horrible) when he got into a snowboarding accident. My other good buddy was right there by his side while he died. after I moved my buddy ended up getting into drugs and what not. kinda sad to hear he went that way. One of my other friends (Justin Thibeault) just recently got hit by a truck attempting to cross a road with another fellow (Matt Clement). justin got transferred to a few different hospitals through the province and im pretty sure it was either ottawa or london he stayed in for the rest of his recovery. after the accident his health went downhill with a collapsed lung and alot of other things he had to fight through. he made it though! but the sad part is he'll never be the same. it kind of bothers me how much he has changed. we dont regularly talk anymore and if we do its usually "hey, hows it goin" and nothing past that. matt on the other hand just suffered a broken pelvis and a few other broken bones. he's just fine. I still hope overtime though me and Justin will start talking more and eventually build that friendship back up. -

allergy issues.... help please!?!
pike n' whities replied to pike n' whities's topic in General Discussion
thanks guys.... the only issue up here though is the fact that there aren't many doctors in this town. I forget how long the waiting list is I was put on. I can however go into the walk in clinic. i may have to wait a while but to make some of these symptoms go away, it is well worth it. im thinkin it may be a newer cold now because im starting to get headaches and my throat is getting a little sore and raspy. and here comes the plugged up nose.... thanks again guys. -
hey guys, i've finally run into my allergies again recently while cutting down a few scrap trees. i dont know what the heck is going on. i got the usual pollen symptoms: itchy eyes, sneezing, whatever else. but this time my palate (either soft or hard one) is EXTREMELY dry and i cant seem tp get rid of it. it just doesnt go away and im waking up at night because of it and am gettin a huge loss of sleep. can anyone please suggest a site that i can go to or something to help with this? reacton and other allergy medications (in pill form) dont seem to work. i've spent about an hour now researching but cant find a single thing. thanks!
