I hope they get over to the special regs section of the Grand near Fergus/Elora. Lots of violations occuring at times. Right about now would be a good time to check. Worm containers sitting on the shore and a forked stick in the bank kind of gives it away.

This may be a stupid question but I'm totally new to night fishing walleye. Do guys just use the feel of the rod to determine a strike or do they use a headlamp pointed at the end of the rod? I'm bottom bouncing with a worm harness and I'm hung by the time I detect a strike.

There was a time in my father's day (man that's a long time ago LOL) that anglers didn't keep pike or bass. The new generation of anglers do practice more catch and release but the they also keep bass unlike their fathers IMO. Our cottage lake will be great for several years as the cottagers have agreed to release bass in our small lake. Then a visitor to the lake discovers the resource and the lake gets hammered for a summer. The large bass are hard to catch for a few summers but they do recover. It's pretty cyclic actually.

Suggestions/tactics for Ottawa River (Temiscaming)

Definitely a ridiculous example of enforcement on behalf of Quebec but then I guess revenue from any source is appreciated. -
Yup . the walleye I'm catching (which aren't Many) are filled with burrowing mayfly nymphs. Soft bottom is the key.

Didn't even watch the final game! Brutal series to say the least. I hope Kessel chokes on the cup! I think Crosby finally managed to get Phil to commit to something in life and for that he deserves the Conn Smythe! Yeah George was deadly as the CBC anchor for HNIC. Glad to see Ron McLean back.

Never I hope. I have a camp 2km from the natural gas pipeline in Eastern Ontario. I don't believe for a minute it's simple to switch a 25 year old gas pipeline into a crude oil pipeline. If they want to pipe oil then install a properly engineered oil pipeline and I'd support that project. I'm willing to live with the risk but I'm not convinced this old pipeline is the answer.

Geez policies based on data ...... there's an idea! Maybe they'll even be allowed to PUBLISH their data and speak on matters of science ..... like in a free country! I'm not totally OK with Trudeau but this is one of the reasons I couldn't vote for Harper.

That's a nice trip! Can't say I'm a fan of Ced ar Lake after being storm-stayed for 2 days on it a few years back.

Yes I have a gazzilion colours and blade types. What do I use? Chrome, brass and then chartreuse with orange splash on it. I have loads of indiana blades but I just hardly ever use them. They seem so small and I have no confidence in them. I guess they spin faster and lift the harness a little more. I think the theory was that Indiana's are better in the spring when water is colder and you tend to troll slower.
-
yeah that would help. On a different note, What order do you fish the various spinner blades throughout the season. I start with indiana #4 in spring and then move to colorado blades by june with the willow leaf blade in the warmest part of the summer. Anyone else use that order primarily? i like the brass and nickel colours first then I move to perch colours after that with hot colours next.

Well now that you guys mention it; I'm using lighter line for the terminal portion of the harness. There's so much wood in the Ottawa River I started using lighter leaders like you do in steelheading. I don't care about the harness really I just hate backing the boat up and wrestling with the heavy leader material to breakoff off of the snag. It's the 6lb fluoro that comes unsnelled. Maybe it's a problem using lighter line ..... it's too supple perhaps? I started using the egg knot that steelheaders use for the terminal hook and then the standard snell for the middle hook. I've never lost a fish because of it.
-
Sinker that's what I ended up doing because I was concerned the termainal snell would fail as well.
-
YUP that's the snelling I use Brian B and the middle hook will slide freely on the line if the knot is given slack such as during the process of unhooking a fish. I've never had the terminal hook unravel but the middle hook has come loose and ended up at the terminal hook several times.
-
15 lb fluoro seaguar I believe. It's not the first snell at the end of the line that failed. The second hook seems to come unsnelled once in a while and slides down to the terminal hook. That's why I was wondering about the style of snell I'm using.
-
I haven't found a snell knot I like yet. Some of the recommended snell knots will fail given enough time. Any recommendations? Does the nail knot tool help with a good snell?

Very funny in deed! Sums up my opinion of Phil the coach killer.

Algonquin Park Backcountry Permits Cancelled For Opener

I worked in the Park for over 4 summers and I have a camp in the Park. You're dead on! I see people canoeing parallel to the waves and switching sides even in the middle of July. Cold water and inexperienced paddlers = disasters! -
Well if he was really trying to tank he wouldn't dress Komarov or Bozak. Bernier would never had seen the ice. And if all of that didn't work just pull a Pittsburgh Penguin ..... don't dress Nylander. :/ I think you owe it to the other teams coming down the stretch to put up a decent battle. I'll bet Phili isn't happy with the Pittsburgh sitting their top players.
-
Says a lot about Babcock's professionalism. A lesser man would have tanked a long time ago.

I have a neighbor on the Ottawa River that claims the Hydro electric dams aren't generating because the government needs to justify the need for wind and solar power. He claims the dams are allowing flow through rather than generate power that we often need to pay others to take. Now he was an employee/manager in the Hydroelectric system so is he exaggerating?

Stamkos wouldn't be a good fit. He's past his prime and we've been down this road before. Stick with the youth movement!

NF rant about animal neglect accusations

Roaming cats do kill a lot of birds and other small mammals. I'm not a fan of letting cats wander however there's a right way to bring the "problem" to your attention and that comment sure wasn't the right way. It's a good thing you're being reasonable if she tried that with the bad neighbours I've had she'd be biting off a lot more than she can chew. Good neighbours pick their battles and a wandering cat isn't worth the battle. IMO. -
They'll join the hunting show fate unless something changes. I don't watch them anymore. They make 6 shows and then try to cover the timeslot for the year with the same 6 shows.

Babcock is falling into the same trap previous coaches have. Anyone remember the huge winning streaks in past years right after they've been officially eliminated. Any team can play loose as a goose when their is nothing at stake..... Interesting to see the TSN guys try to put a positive spin on this silliness. Can't even tank right! :wallbash: :wallbash:
