  1. So….went over….Tom seemed a bit "off' for want of a better word. we loaded the machine in near silence, he said "ok well, there ya go". I explained we needed to talk before we went any further. I asked what problems he ran into that had caused him to go $200 over the original quote. He started off pointing out that he had changed the sheer pins too "for proper ones"….." i was quick too point out that sheer pin change is a 30 second job…cost max $6. He did not say much. I went on to explain that I could understand that he could have run into issues while the work was already underway, and that i appreciated he got the work done, but felt he should have given me a heads up as we were approaching a cost point not far off a new blower!!! I suggested we meet half way and offered $500….he accepted and I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. On the way home i was thinking if he had done what was on the bill he had done good by me, i was just finding it hard to shake the feeling that something was wrong. Got home, had to pull start it to get into the garage….F$%$#$%^%….pull cord snaps first pull…..right at the very end. Call Tom as i can't believe this is coincidence….he says he has not touched it. Get the machine into the garage and hook it up , push the button…it fires up (he tested it in front of me at the shop too…fired up then) i start to go and try it…my wife comes out to say i have a phone call…go to switch it off….DOES NOT STOP NOW WHEN YOU REMOVE THE KEY!!!!! I know this was fine before it went in because i had to start and stop it to get it on the trailer……GRRRRRRRRRRRR. Ok…really……REALLY!!!!!REALLLLLLY!!!!!! pass the valium!!!!!
  2. thanks, you guys are awesome. . Gonna go with all the money, talk nice, and try to split the difference. He has usually been a decent kind of guy, but I just don't trust mechanics....too many bad experiences, but I will try to put that feeling aside and talk openly......If all else fails....the violin case gets opened!
  3. A verbal one on the phone for $400 I have a recorded phone message from him saying he has "short changed myself and the total is actually $596.96"
  4. Yeah…thats what i was thinking of doing, i don't want to answer his call so he has a chance to do anything to the snowblower, just show up and say $400 and say thats what we agreed….give me my snowblower. What happens if he refuses to give me my snowblower…..what are my rights?
  5. Hi all, So here's the deal. Took my Husqvarna snowblower to a small engine mechanic business. Wanted them to change the belts and give it a tune up/service etc. I was told it would be $200. When i got home i realized that i had forgotten to ask him to check the electric ignition on it. It would just make a whirring sound but not turn the engine over. The next day he called and told me something to do with the flywheel/starter motor bracket…yadayadayadayada…….."i have a used part i can put in " yadayadayadayada. I ask how much this will cost me now all in with the original work included. he tells me $400. I told him, "no thanks Tom, just do the original work then as i can hand crank it still". I get off the phone and the wife says i should just get it done, end of problem. I call Tom right back within 2 minutes and say, "hey Tom, on second thoughts can you go ahead and do what we just discussed", he says yeah and we confirm it is all in $400 and he tells me it will be ready by Tuesday. I say i will collect it on Wednesday and the EXACT last words out of my mouth are, "so i'll see you Wednesday with $400." he replied "YUP". So i get home at 8pm and my wife tells me "Tom left a message saying he short changed himself on the cost of the repairs, he says the snowblower is fixed but the total is …..$596.90!!!!!!! " What are my options here? I am pretty sure there is something about a mechanic not being able to go over 10% of an agreed quote/estimate. Even if that does not apply, surely he can't go ahead and charge what he likes without at least discussing it with me first?! THOUGHTS PLEASE!
  6. with an I-pilot you don't need to even use the remote really, do your first run on track record…..then there ya go! Wanna cast from one spot….employ spot lock! way easier than a foot pedal in my opinion.
  7. Good one Chris, i am always impressed by your reports…you get some awesome fishing done bud! I will have to try this steel/float/centerpin/river stuff one day.
  8. Enjoying the snow Chad?

  9. Looks like George Zimmerman just founded out that's assaulting someone who isn't black gets you arrested right away!

  10. Hi all, Well I like some snow, JUST NOT ALL AT ONCE!
  11. Hi all, Bit of a sad day yesterday. While shopping in town I suggested to Jack that we get a dozen minnows on the way home. Jack was excited to go to the minnow shop as he is treated like royalty, he even has his own footstool behind the counter so he can reach the minnow tanks and net the minnows we are buying. On hearing this mum suggested we just take of and go fishing as she could get the shopping done quicker without us in tow (heehee….note to self), Jack was up for it and off we went. Why a sad day? As we are getting out of the truck at home, to my horror Jack pipes up, "Dad, I hate fishing". Some intense conversation followed and i discovered that he "actually hates fishing" but loves playing around while I fish. I'll take that i guess. I am of course being melodramatic, if there is one thing i know from experience it is that given the right conditions he loves fishing, just not for long and we better be catching! I think its more the case of him practising this week's new word 'hate'. I love watching his giant personality grow, even better when its like holding a mirror up. Anyhoo, here is our adventure from yesterday evening at the house. WENT DOWN TO THE LAKE TO DO SOME OF THIS BUT ENDED UP DOING MORE OF THIS AND THIS…………………………………. AND OF COURSE THIS………………… AND A ATTEMPT AT THIS……………... HERE ARE THE VIDEOS THE SUNSET WAS UNSPECTACULAR FOR 'SUNSET COUNTRY' Snow is flying as i write…….. more snowmen and snow machines today for Jack, Dad and Mum….if the wind drops a bit. Times like these make me 100% sure this is the right place for us to be growing up.
  12. The truck is a go….just not me….having 'cubital tunnel' (fishing elbow) surgery on Thursday….can be months before you can regain strength in your arm…definitely a good 3-4 weeks out of action as far as drilling holes/riding snow machines goes….i really will have to try to be strict with myself….but it will be hard to sit watching the skidoos go by in front of the house.
  13. LOL…yup….Roloff is definitely loyal….he is like glue to me wherever i go outside….unless the deer or geese are on the lawn. I am gonna try to get a bit more fishing done this year Brian….but my work schedule is changing….although Jack is at school…w'ell see how it goes….I am hoping though!@ Its going in for a recall….side reflectors had the wrong glue….lol…i'm getting them to do an oil change etc….it will be ready to go before i am
  14. I was actually thinking of grabbing a dozen minnows and casting from the lawn this evening….if i can get the patio doors finished might be an idea. But as for sawbill….lets do it!
  15. I will probably only be able to Drive my truck before January…so any fishing i do will be dependent on benevolent friends willing to ferry my fat behind on and off the ice. The only thing i will be helpful for on the ice is catching fish and scooping holes. So….if you are up for that i'm into a trip to sawbill as soon as the ice is safe….i'm thinking that will be the first week of December…up for it?
  16. I like the way you think.
  17. I own a Terrova because before i bought it i had used a Powerdrive. The Terrova stows deploys like a dream….the power drive will leave you frustrated in this respect….horrible release mechanism. The iPilot is worth the money alone, although, like others have said, it will cost more than just the $200. The foot pedal is also far superior to the PD and can be employed simultaneously with either a Co-Pilot or iPilot, with the Power Drive you have to use one or the other. The upgrades for the Terrova are way easier to do, basically snap on in most cases. Ok….anyway….i'm a fan of my Terrova and have never heard a single grumble from anyone who has owned one…..GET IT.
  18. I gotta chip in. This guy has a problem with substance misuse…..he needs help. It saddens me to see some people trying to defend what this guy has been doing…IN PUBLIC OFFICE! And in a lot of cases just smacks of complete hypocrisy, given that much of his 'support' appears to be from 'the right'/'conservative' view holding pundits etc..(I said 'seems' folks).….the same kind of folk that i would not put it past to hold the view that while it is ok for Mr. Ford to get paid out of public funds and abuse substances…welfare claimants should be drugs tested.
