  1. Sorry to hear Beans, mend quick and well! As for the glasses thing we are in reverse, I'm just getting used to not being able to see up close and realizing how much I took for granted for 47 years!
  2. LOL…he is a good pup, i grow fonder of him daily, he has really turned into my dog, he likes my wife and jack, but he sits at the door whipping in anticipation of me for about an hour every evening before I come home. There has been a few wet flurries here, but nothing like the sudbury guys got the other week, but the small ponds here have a skim….not long now. Thanks Brian, with the ice approaching soon it might just be a 'blast and blast' report next. Thanks Chad, my poor knees were shot to hell by the end of the day, more glucosamine me thinks! Yeah, would hate to be shot at. I heard a lot of moose calls in the area that day, thinking it was hunters rather than moose making the racket though. Some pretty close by too. I am blessed with some good shore fishing, but the walleye have started to slow down now, soon be going after trout and whities. Thanks Beans, OUCH! what did you have done?
  3. Happy Birthday Terry!
  4. Hi all, Not had the boat out at all since beginning of September, just been sticking to local shore spots. The fishing has been great though and no need to get the boat out really. Been enjoying the exercise too, as has my pup and loyal buddy Roloff (loyal buddies seem rare these days in my experience). Went back to a spot we visited on the ice last winter with my wife and son. Last winter we started to build a 'fort' there and my son was anxious to finish the project. The lake is stocked with splake. I did not catch any on the ice so decided to bring a rod and try from shore while we built Jack's fort. We got the fort built and got supper and I guess my new personal best Splake, as I had never caught one before. They were all small , but very….very…tasty! Bobbers with a split shot and single hooked live minnow and black fury mepps worked good. THE HIKE IN GOOD FUN AND EXERCISE FOR EVERYONE GOT THE FORT BUILT SMILES ALL ROUND AND GOT SUPPER OUT OF THE DEAL TOO! I the video I took that day was not very good quality, but I went back yesterday with Roloff while the family was at work and school, this time armed with my Gopro and more time dedicate to fishing. YESTERDAY AT THE SAME LAKE (select HD In youtube) I have also been hitting up a shore mark a bit closer to home, lots of video of this place already, but always a fun spot to try, last week got an hour in on Thursday morning, its slowing down a bit for walleye, perch have been on fire, but they are wormy, anyway, not bad for an hour and got to have a fish fry at work on Saturday which the staff and clients appreciate! HOUR SHIFT FROM SHORE The smaller ponds were all iced over yesterday, even some shallower larger lakes had a shore to shore skim. Not long now before the dreaded soft water to ice transition period. At least this year I can spend the 2 week period shooting birds.

  7. Thats just not true......MERRY CHRISTMAS....MERRY CHRISTMAS....MERRY CHRISTMAS.
  8. Good news, kick butt Jen!
  9. I think then you have to look at the big picture, otherwise its just individuals looking out for their own (selfish)interests. Seems like these days its " well he aint going to stop netting fish so I'm don't see why I should stop catching 4……Its what I call a race to the bottom, ON YER MARKS……GET SET………..
  10. How cool is that? VERY. Nice one Shawn.
  11. Things change, for the better and for the worse. When things change we need to adapt. If peoples adaption in this case is to move to another lake to fill a stringer day in day out we have a problem. I watched posts on this topic before, and it brings out the worst sentiments lurking on this forum in my opinion. I don't get how you are not going to have enough fish to satisfy you with 2. I can prepare 2x10inch walleye (and smaller) to feed 3 people. I can see how this would upset people who are used to keeping 4 per day…I UNDERSTAND….but keeping 4 a day has been deemed unsustainable….. let the finger pointing begin….and around we go. So…maybe a change in perception is what is needed. Maybe if people start to view a plate of fresh caught walleye as an absolute privilege and delicacy, and appreciate the fact that even when only allowed 2 fish you are very lucky to experience the great outdoors and the feel of living off the land in an era when our natural resources are scarce and becoming scarcer. In fact, take pride in eating/keeping 2, know that you are helping preserve this wonderful experience for generations to come. Probably get blasted for this….but thats the way I see it.
  12. Wire leader is a must. There are lots of white tip reef sharks about, last year a guy caught ( and killed….not good) a baby thresher shark. I did not have much luck at all…..but have a better idea of what lures to use. I will have a few top waters in my arsenal but the waves and swells (unto 6 feet high) made that method next to impossible. I could find some sheltered spots but with time limited and socializing to do I am kind of stuck on the windward side of the island.
  13. Run a wire leader, absolute must with the shark and barracuda present.
  14. LOL…never too many jerry cans! Its a Mini-z….mxz would be a bit much for the little guy. I think the newer models of the youth machines were based on the look of the MXZs. LOL@ SHART. The boy is 5/12 the skidoo is 1998.
  15. Great Job boys!
  16. Hi all, Jack got a new toy today. He saved over $600 to buy it. Very proud of him.
  17. Thanks for the input guys. Will stay clear of the bait caster, good advice. I think i will continue to use my Shimano Baitrunner reel with a spool of 50-60lb braid and a spool of thicker mono.
  18. Hi all, Heading back to Antigua in January. Will only be fishing a couple of spots that i'm familiar with. Both shore venues, both very rocky (sharp coral too). The winds are very strong that time of year so need to be able to fire fairly light clacking raps at least 50yrds. There are some MASSIVE fish that will hit the clacking raps, lost both my lures to successive fish last time I was there, snapped me off like a knife through butter using #30 braid. I was using wire leaders. I'm pretty confident an extra 20# test strength with the drag set right should see me through, as long as the braid i'm using can withstand the rock and coral. Could go the mono route but then line diameter and casting becomes an issue I would think. My goal is to stay as light as possible while actually being able to land a big one. Was thinking of trying a baitcasting reel with heavy braid. Baitcast virgin here. I'm a southpaw so need a left hand reel...Abu Garcia Black Max perhaps? Any thoughts?
  19. VIDEO WAS AWESOME!!!!!!
  20. Thoughts and prayers to you guys.
