  1. No lawsuit as far as I know, but I think their stock value crashed around that time. They are a very arrogant company in my view, and whoever is in charge of development and design is a moron, for example, the new phone app that replaced the old one requires a sign in, in other words to use your phone as the view finder you need wifi or cell service...yeah right, I have that in the middle of Lac Seul!
  2. You have done them all. This was/is a common issue with the Hero 4s. I had a Hero 4 Black edition that did exactly the same thing, I bought the 5 year best buy insurance for like $60, they replaced it with a Hero 5 Black with a $100 gift card thrown in. I won't deal with GoPro customer service, found them to be unhelpful and obstructive, my camera was still within the warranty period for Gopro but decided to cash in my other Warranty and save a bunch of grief and time. I remember when I was researching the same issue you are now having that many folks who were outside of Warranty with GoPro were only being offered the chance to return the camera and receive 20% off a new purchase....crappy deal if you ask me.
  3. Yeah, been out a couple times from the marina at Eirieau, we caught steelhead. I don't have a boat down there but I could easily sell that info to the boys at the trailer park....lol.
  4. thanks Sterling, I have fished Erie out of Eirieau a few times, good fishing, even from the pier. My father in law has a trailer there, we visit often, already trying to work that into the plan when he returns. ME AT ERIEAU PIER VIDEOS.
  5. me too, some good folks on here, already had a personal message about this, but the more the merrier!
  6. Hi all, Just throwing this out there, fishing if you like. I am doing some respite work for a family in Hamilton with a young man who is originally from this area. I was asked to do this by the agency I work for because I had worked with this guy when he had been in care/foster care when he lived up here and because he shares my passion for the outdoors. He is very attached to his care family in Hamilton and so does not wish to stay here up north, but really misses the outdoors, in particular....FISHING. I won't go into details, but this young man has many issues, but when he is out fishing he is in his element and is the best form of 'therapy' for him. He told me there are very limited fishing options in that area. Whether or not this is true it is the way he perceives it. Walleye fishing is his favourite, but he'll fish for most things just like myself. I guess I am asking if there is anyone on the board from the Hamilton area that would be willing to take this guy out fishing once in a while when he returns. I have spoken to his care family about throwing it out there on the forum and they were happy for me to give it a try. The logistics of it can be worked out later, just seeing if there was any interest in doing so from our community members. You can reply on the thread or to my private messages. thanks , Simon.
  7. I bought the guidewear bibs and jacket, it's the lightweight one so good for summer and enough room to put over layers in the fall. They were a lot of money for me but I won't say expensive cuz they have been well worth it.
  8. Yup they call them Nitro worms here too, they are $6 a dozen, regular worms work better from my experiences.
  9. I'm building a dock myself(finally)....just saying you might want to check the regs even if others have the same dock you have in mind, simply because they might have built prior to new regs, it's like that on my lake, no crib docks allowed as of ten years ago, so you see lots of crib docks but you can't build new ones. I agree with Big Cliff, if it's rooted to the ground you have to consider ice.
  10. I guess my point was get a Lifeproof case for your Samsung. LOL.
  11. i have a phonecase made by Lifeproof. They are pricey at around $80-$100 depending on where you buy it. The case is pretty awesome though, as is their customer service. I left my phone on the tonneau cover of my truck and drove off. The whole day I thought I had just left it at home. On returning home I searched everywhere and began to fear the worst. My wife hooked up her 'find my iPhone' app and it indicated my phone had 2% charge left and was at the top of our driveway. Found the phone but no sign of the case. The next day I found half of the case but could not see the other half anywhere. I don't blame the manufacturer for the case opening on impact as I sometimes don't secure it properly when I take it out to use with my drone, plus the fact that when I am near the top of my driveway I am usually doing 50-80kmh. I called the folks at Lifeproof to explain the situation and they said they needed both halves of the case for warranty but given the circumstances would do a onetime exception and within 5 days I had my new case, paid $5 shipping.
  12. Lol, more likely I'll strike Trumpland 1st
  13. What about a category for : Who has gone quietest since the political thread ban?
  14. Welcome to the board.
  15. It seems that not many people I know appreciate close encounters of the 'turd' kind....lol. I don't mind too much if the person encroaching starts up some banter, had some fun times meeting with people who saunter over, don't do it myself but thats just me. One time last year a guy from the US came over to my boat and we started the banter, ended up parking our boats on shore and trekking into a cache lake to cast for bass, great adventure and still in contact with them. I'll talk to anybody, so when you approach my boat within conversation range at least have the courtesy to say good morning. Had a guy 2 days before the incident in the picture come about the same distance to me with the bimini up and his back to me....just ignorant. I rarely confront people as if they are showing all the signs of ignorance it rarely ends well, I resent moving, but half the time these people are useless fishermen, so I slam a few more, making it plain to see, exaggerating the hook sets etc....watch their frustration increase, then move on. Maybe they should introduce a rule in the regs like the slot size, e.g.. Zone 5...keep a minumum distance of 100yrds from boats not in your group. There could even be Zone Exceptions....eg "Zone 4, Lac Seul from Manitoba point to Burntwood Bay.....minimum distance 3 miles".....lol
  16. Don't overlook what you are setting the kids up with, if you have live bait with you tossing a minnow on a jig at the shore or anywhere you think the bass are. Like AKRISONER said..."pop pop let it rest". Also a nightcrawler under a slip bobber can be absolutely deadly. Mepps type spinners also good. The water still sounds cold for this time of year which is similar to here, I have not found the smallies to be in their usual haunts at all. The most consistent pattern I have found is shallow, Like Manitoubass said, cast at shore, especially if there are small boulders present, and I mean right up on shore almost.
  17. Hi all, I don't understand how some people figure its ok to encroach on where you are fishing just because they see you catching fish. This was the other night at a very popular local spot. Just the two boats out there, mine and his. He saw my son and myself catching fish after fish and just came right over within feet of our boat, did not say much and just hung around. Even my son whispered to me "Dad? What is he so close for". The guys boat was Ontario registered also, so not always are friends south of the border who think this is ok. 18. On 2 separate occasions the wive's of two locals have approached my wife to tell her that they laugh at their husbands because they spend hours stopping and starting the videos looking for landmarks and trying to triangulate my position with where the sun is etc..etc..and using google earth. It kind of irks me because never have I ever had one comment on my youtube channel from anyone local. It is hilarious to see the embarrassed faces of parents (males) when their kids run up to me and say "My dad watches all of your videos!" but that person has never approached me to say hi or anything, even funnier when I have had numerous conversations with them while waiting to pick up the kids and not a mention of my videos. Most likely these are some of the people in town who frown on my videos for potentially giving away my location, yet here they are taking advantage of the very thing they all get their knickers in a twist about...lol.
  19. Hi all, The bite has been on here on the Goon in the evening. 1/8oz jig with nightcrawler, 12'FOW, vertical jigging. The spot i'm on is a very well known local go to and the nearest camp always has a few boats there whenever I'm there. This being said I have had nobody fishing the spot i'm on all week....lol....but the video is a dead giveaway of where I am on the Island so should be interesting to see how many boats migrate from their usual spots close to the island out to where I was. I am going back tonight and I know that the nearby camp watches my videos....almost sure of it....and I know that at least 30 locals watch them. WATCH THIS SPACE. SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERIMENT IN PROGRESS!
  20. Typical bloody englishman, next thing it will Bivvys, hair rigs.........
  21. We had no wind here with the storm, the other week though I lost 2 of our 150' spruce....firewood for next year. The sunset afterwards was stunning, but I was being eaten alive just getting those shots, the skeeters have finally arrived....and I swear I could hear them saying...."fee-fi-fo-fum.....we smell the blood of an Englishman" depending on which version of Gopro you have there is a feature called 'time-lapse video', however I did not use that I just let the camera run at 1080p @60fps, the hero 5 I have does a decent job of auto setting for darker environments. If I had the time, could have got a lot sharper image using the regular photo time-lapse setting but with only being able to have intervals no shorter than 1 sec I'm not sure I would have captured the shot. Thanks. Definitely a wild light show the other night, went on for hours! Don't know if you know Brian, but the higher FPS you have the better slo-mo you get, but you will lose some image quality.
  22. Hi all, Set up the Gopro facing the storm the other night and captured a video still of the lightning across Lake Wabigoon.
  23. Sorry for the delay replying folks! 1st work, then other stuff, and then 4 days off the grid camping put a dent in my social media activity. Thanks Rick, Jack is still laughing about it now, it is so great to spend some decent time with him again, loving that he is out of school for the summer and we get to hang out more. Before I left that evening he showed up at the boat on the shore in tears just before I launched, there was a misunderstanding that he was 'not allowed' to come out with me that evening, so there he running down the lawn to catch up to me before I left , tears streaming down his face saying "dad, i don't want to fish but I really, really want to come out and hang out with you before we do the fireworks", broke my heart to think he thought I was abandoning him, his face lit up when I said of course I wanted him to come, big smile and huge tears on his face...too cute. Thanks Bruce, with school out I feel like I have my little man back, things get so hectic with the work schedule i'm on. Thanks Rick, I was serious about the teenage years textbook, get to work on it please Thanks man! LOL...I love the winter but by March i'm done with it....lol. Just did a three day camping trip with the family, 'real' camping, in tents, on an island....absolutely amazing, did not brush my teeth or bathe for 2 whole days! Finally took the plunge in the lake, it was bloody freezing, lake still only just about 60F...its been a cold spring. LOL...it was not until after we caught 4 in 10 minutes that I realized how good the fishing was that evening, had to really dig deep to go back right away. needless to say I went back out the next evening and absolutely hammered them in the same spot, BEST fishing I've ever had on Wabigoon for walleye, nothing huge, but everything a respectable 16" -17" fat keeper walleye.
  24. Thanks Cliff! What a write up, fishing and family, does not get much better than that , and the setting you describe is to die for. LOL...i would not expect anything less than a brutally honest review from you, and think it is great that you have done just that. I have dealt with quite a few camp owners in my short time here, and while there are some truly fantastic people and camps there are some where I wonder how they ever got their 'good' reputation and have managed to keep it. The problem with reviews on Camp websites is that they are in control of the content, I use the site Tripadvisor to review places I've been.
