  1. Yeah, nice to be able to drive out, waaaaaay less prep needed, and its like fishing in your living room there is so much space in the Otter XTH Pro Lodge my wife got me for xmas. Yep, a real smorgasbord of fish. I am so pumped for my yearly trip, always different. This year it is windy as heck there, thats the norm, whereas last year it was fairly calm. Will be an adventure to get on fish, but i'm hopefully and have spent the whole evening today on Google earth, searching out interesting areas....have a few new spots to try!
  2. Hi all, Got out for a couple of hours on Lake Wabigoon this morning. Instead of sledding out I went further up the lake and drove out of the Reserve's landing to almost the middle of the lake. 24' FOW, light action rods with spoons and minnow heads. Started slow but at 11am it went nuts and caught a bunch of crappie, a tullibee, a jumbo perch, a huge Jackfish, and some sauger and walleye. The sauger and walleye were small but I ended up keeping the ones that blow out their swim bladders. Nice bunch of fish for my neighbour, I don't have time to clean or eat them as I am heading to the Caribbean in 2 days for 2 weeks of sun, sand, family, and FISHING!
  3. Hi all, I've got a couple of days off and planned to go fishing both days. I fought the urge to head out early yesterday because the chores list was piling up. I almost didn't go yesterday because it was 3pm by the time I'd accomplished enough to go out guilt free but saw Manitou's post and had to go. I got on the ice at 3:30pm and by 5pm had a limit of walleye, got around 6 or 7 in total and had a blast. Weather was warm for a change so decided to sit in the open, love my shelter but so much nicer to be out in the open again!
  4. Good to see you fishing buddy! Great pics. You inspired me to go out yesterday evening for some walleye.
  5. Awesome fish and video JT.
  6. good boats, I got an escape a couple years back with the 50hp Yammy. I switched to the 80lb 24volt, I am very technically challenged but managed to switch it from 12V to 24V in an afternoon, biggest pain was the re routing of the wiring, like someone else said, get the dealer to do it....lol. I pilot is a solid piece of kit. Only thing I'd suggest as others have is to go up to 80lbs on the TM, makes a lot of difference, and since you got a deal on the boat go treat yourself on the Ulterra, go on...because you're worth it....lol!
  7. Come on over, BYOB. I emailed you some....lol. Thanks Spiel, I'm having a little reunion with my kitchen recently, have not done much cooking in a while, kinda enjoying it, think because I have time to do it. Thanks dude, was well received for sure, my son wants to do another video recipe with me for it tomorrow night.
  8. Took a couple of the kids from work fishing for walleye, yup...my job involves taking people fishing? I wish I could show the pictures of their smiling faces, but confidentiality policies don't allow. Anyway, I promised to cook the fish for them eat the drop in centre the next day for lunch, they were smiling even more, nice to have a job where you feel like you make a difference to the people you provide service to. Anyway, enough rambling, this is what I came up with..... Cracked Black pepper and rock salt sautéed Walleye and Bacon sandwich on Pumpernickel, with a sweet chilli and horseradish mayo served with fresh cut, homemade onion rings and salad garnish. OH YEAH!
  9. Lol..... googleing tulibee
  10. LOL...probably the equipment, sounds like my buddy, his fish finder batteries and auger batteries always run out, he never bothers charging them. I just bought a 2nd hand hand auger and own plenty of 20V drills, will have to do a bit of messing around with the welder to convert it, but should not take long, might just go the clam plate route but even that seems a bit awkward to pack/unpack.....we'll see. Love the video of yours in action! I don't think the electric augers are untested at all, plenty of folks have been using them here for years. I've used them and they are awesome, only thing for me is dropping $800 on one and the fact they are even wider than the gas ones (handle to handle).
  11. Just a quick video of a quick session I grabbed on Friday morning,
  12. I like my jiffy too Sinker, has had the bejeezuz knocked out of it for 11 years and still going strong. But portability is an issue just seems weird that everyone I know has had to here jerrymonger their own rack systems,
  13. Hi all, Just thinking out loud here. I have noticed a real shift in thinking towards using cordless drills for cutting holes in ice. The concept has been used for years but I'm noticing that lots of people are making the switch this year. Does not seem like the Jiffys, Strikemasters and Eskimos of the world have a good response so far. I would think that if those big traditional brands with their BIG traditional augers need to hop on the emerging band wagon quick. I think they should at least design and market auger brackets for various motorized vehicles, as portability and miniaturization, like everything else in the world, seems to be the way people's thinking is going. It just seems strange to me that companies that make ice fishing gear seem to be oblivious or willfully ignorant of what people want , and the practicalities of using equipment on the ground(ice), I have had loads of conversations with fishermen that go something like.................." has the person that designed this ever been fishing?"
  14. Hi all, I've been catching a bunch of Burbot recently and decided to keep some. I have eaten it before and consider it one of the best, it's just I did not know how to clean them properly, then I watched a Youtube video, it's actually very easy, slimy, smelly, but easy. Wanted to experiment beyond the poor man's lobster and beer batter options, although those are good too. Had the chance to get in the kitchen yesterday, and Jack was all over the idea of helping cooking and making a recipe video. So here goes............ Lemon Crusted Burbot on veggie spaghetti with a Moroccan chilli sauce.
  15. The weather is ridiculous, it goes to -20ºC and everyone starts talking about waxing bikini lines! The dish turned out great BTW............. even made a video of the recipe with my helper Jack, will take a while to put together though. Thanks man! Waaaaaay to cold...even for 'Jack 'o the North' as his gramps calls him. pfffft...after you matey....lol. better safe than sorry eh? Thermo is ok, no condensation freeze up, but they don't hold the heat as well as they are advertised. 'oooooh....me nipples were like bullets!'
  16. Hi all, The Arctic weather continues here, and even with a shelter I am finding it hard to motivate myself to go out but still do just to maintain a socially acceptable level of sanity, anyway....it toughens the nipples which is good for breast feeding. Headed across our lake early yesterday morning to meet with a buddy on his home lake, I was set up and fishing by 9am and got a text at 11 am saying he was too hungover to make it, I texted back to say the fishing up to that point was probably worse than his hangover. It took almost five hours before I landed a fish. It was a tiny laker that had been keeping me company for that whole time and probably decided that since we had known each other for a long time we should meet, kind of like internet dating I guess. After that 1st fish, the lakers turned on, suspended and on the bottom, that lasted an hour and then the Burbot came out in force. I put the Lake Trout back and kept the Burbot, got a nice bag of cod fillets out of the deal, just deciding what to cook with them, not a great fan of the 'poor man's lobster' option (sorry Misfish), but thinking a lemon crusted fillet, steamed in wine on a bed of garlic butter zucchini spaghetti would be better, but that's just me.....lol. 64' FOW again, same spot as the other day. Trout would hit anything, burbot would only hit small acme spoons tipped with a minnow resting on the bottom. The burbot are small but my hungover buddy fishes them at night in March during the spawn, he says he gets much bigger ones....cant wait!
  17. LOL...thanks for the recipe Brian. I seem to fish....work....sleep..........you are right.....better eat something too! Slimey buggers.....eeeeeeeels!
  18. This might work, not sure on the price though.
  19. Thanks Bruce. It was fun for sure, I have a buddy i'm going fishing with on Saturday who lives on that lake, he does night fishing for them in March, can't wait to give it a shot. They are fun, not sure what pics you are talking about though....lol. Thanks Joey, I was thinking about your Ling video the whole time....night fishing ling is on my radar now. Thanks bud!
  20. Hi all, Well the -30ºC temps finally gave way to a balmy -7ºC and not wanting to look in the gift horse's mouth I seized the opportunity to go fishing. I had work that afternoon so only managed a couple of hours but fish were caught and a buddy turned up on his sled and came in for a chat which added to the fun. Was hoping to get a couple of trout for my neighbour's smoker, got one but it was a decent size, and the ling showed up in force which made for some action despite being a slow morning for lakers.
  21. Thanks mate....good to hear from someone who appreciates just what an jerk it is to make it and keep it going! Yessiree.....gotta be done. And yeah....this weather needs to go away fast!
  22. Hi all, After many attempts, finally got the rink up to playing standard. This year has been a nightmare to get it done. We had a great freeze up and then it dumped a ton of heavy, wet snow on the fresh ice. Then it was all 0ºC to +5C º for a couple of weeks. Slush, ice heaves, rain, snow made for a lot of work this year, Plowing with the quad was almost useless as the surface was too rough but I did try.................... only for this to happen. I ended up clearing by hand, have the blisters to prove it...lol. My work schedule is hectic too this year which does not help either, but I was determined to get it done for the kids over Xmas. Xmas arrives and the whole area is under a severe weather alert for the last week, wind chills to -46ºC on the 25th, 26th, so even though the cold temps with snow helped me to get a nice smooth surface the kids did not want to play out, don't blame them...lol. On Wednesday it started out brutally cold............... But by 2pm it had gone up to a balmy -19ºC!!!! I went down and swept the rink of and set up the flood lights and surprised the kids..... They had a blast....made all the work well worth it ? HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
  23. Never before have I had to wrap a present in -30ºC in the dark....looks ok I think.
  24. AWE......she is adorable! Happy for you both.
  25. Disgusting eh?
