Comment from a guy who is definitely not a mechanic. I had a similar issue with the priming bulb not staying firm with my 2 stroke 30 HP Johnson resulting in stall-outs and tough restarts. Replaced the line and bulb, same issue, replaced the molex connectors at both ends of the line and the problem went away. I assume there are o-rings in there that eventually wear out. Just something to try if you didn't get new connectors when you did the fuel line change.

Hey all, I know it's been an awfully long time since I've posted here but I had an interesting catch last week and no one I've shown it to has been able to tell me what it is. I just know someone here has the answer. At first I thought maybe Sheepshead but there were no teeth, my best guess is a drum which has the same slopped face and nostrils but the pictures I'm seeing online don't quite match. Anyway, she was caught in the St. Lawrence near Long Sault in about 15 feet of water in an area with lots of current on a simple black jig with a worm. Canuck

You guys are far too hardcore I tried to go out Monday and the wind and cold sent me packing before the line even got wet and that was nothing compared to what you guys were fishing in.

Short report, sorry no pics but ya'll have seen perch before so use your imagination I was planning to spend the whole morning out for Perch, but had to make a slight change in plans as the young lad decided he wanted to come to dad's a day early this weekend So we headed out around 11 once things had warmed up a bit and I have to say I was really proud of him, he was right into the fishing for a little over an hour which beats his previous record by about an hour He's 7 now so I expect this will just keep getting better. The bite is definitely heating up, the water is up to 6C, and we managed to land a bunch of perch in our hour out there, with 6 of those being healthy keepers over 10". We were hanging out in about 30' of water using worm bits on a drop shot setup. The young lad caught his biggest Perch yet a fat 11" female and was suitably grossed out by the eggs spilling out I had picked up a light Daiwa rod and real at BPS over the winter and spooled it with 4# flouro and I have to say it is absolutely the perfect setup for these little panfish. I was super impressed with how sensitive that setup is. Anyways, we have some nice little fillets just begging for a frying pan.

Last year I turned on every light in the house, ran a load of laundry, the dishwasher, and for good measure smoked a cigar while running the snowblower....gonna be hard to top that this year

A few things to do yet, got the motor fixed up yesterday and gave her a test run in a garbage can...ran really nicely considering she's 22 yrs old. Started rebuilding the transom today, but there's still a lot of ice in front of my place and the Guindon park launch isn't ice free yet... Mike, did you launch at the RCAF? Haven't wet a line since my trailer issues last fall so I've got the itch real bad.

I'm heading down to Bass Pro in Syracuse this weekend, the Mrs wanted a weekend away so I'm taking the chance to stock up for the spring Wondering if anyone has experience with the Bass Pro Prowler trolling motors. The Cabin fever flyer has a 50# bow mount prowler at what seems to be a great price, but I'm having a hard time finding any reviews on this unit. I'll be using it on a 16' tinnie, it probably won't be used too hard, I want it mostly just to steer the boat as I drift or for hugging the shoreline in calmer water. Any advice would be appreciated. On a side note, anyone getting or giving BP gift cards be sure to keep the receipt. I checked the balance online for a few that I got at Christmas and one shows $0 so I called the 1-800 number and they told me that the retailer didn't activate it properly and the only way I can get that done is to bring it back with the receipt. A receipt that of course no longer exists...

I know water levels have been a bit of a hot topic this year across the province, thought this media release from the Great Lakes - St Lawrence Regulation Office might be of interest. Apologies if this was well known November 3, 2010 Control Board continues following regulation plan The International St. Lawrence River Board of Control (Board) recently reviewed conditions in the Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River system. The Board has decided to continue to release outflows in accordance with the regulation plan as much as possible. Outflows may be adjusted to avoid extreme water level conditions downstream, or to meet critical hydropower and navigation needs. The supply of water received by Lake Ontario was below average during September. Lower than average Lake Erie outflows were somewhat offset by above-average precipitation on the Lake Ontario basin. Lake Ontario’s water level remains at average for this time of year, and has followed its seasonal average since mid July. Since August 14, outflows have been as specified by Plan 1958-D, and the lake level remains the same as that computed by the Plan. Lake Ontario is presently at 74.59 m (244.72 ft), which is average for this time of year. There is almost no risk of Lake Ontario reaching its upper level limit in 2010; there is a small risk of low Lake Ontario levels later this fall. The Board urges everyone to be prepared to live within the range of levels specified in the Orders of Approval. Water levels on Lake St. Lawrence have generally been at or above average since late May, and are currently 11 cm (4 in.) above average for this time of year. Levels of the St. Lawrence River near Montreal rose sharply at the end of September following heavy rainfalls, and reached near-record high values before recently falling back below average. The level at the Port of Montreal is presently about 50 cm (20 in.) above chart datum, but 32 cm (12.6 in) below average. With average weather conditions, the level in the Harbour would remain below average, but above chart datum for the next six months. The Board, in conjunction with its staff, is monitoring the situation carefully and is prepared to take action if required. I found OFC looking to put me some knowledge on fishing in Ontario. I came for some learning and I'm sticking around cause the learning hasn't stopped. Just wish I had more to offer, but I guess that'll come with time.

It's been a while since I've posted, been lurking around but haven't had much to say I guess. I've had a great summer of fishing, first full year with the boat and I spent most of my time on the water chasing pickeral. In a year where everyone I saw and talked to said the same thing, it's been tough fishing, I feel like I guess that means I did alright. Brought a nice number of pickeral home and had some fun doing it. Last weekend really capped off my summer though. I had just settled onto the couch to watch some football after a bunch of yard work and my 6 yr old came up and said "Dad, can we go fishing? I want to catch a perch" Well holy crap! You bet we can, there's a long story here, but he hasn't exactly shown much interest at all in fishing so this turn around at the end of the year was very exciting for me to see. Results in the first 10 minutes, very important with the young'ins Yesterday was my last day out, wasn't supposed to be that way but we'll get to that... It was a slow, cold, windy day for my brother in law and I but it paid off near the end with a couple of really nice bass, both of us enjoyed great fights and then they were released for us to catch again another day. Mr pickeral on the other hand is hanging out in my freezer On the way home just as I turned onto the highway I started to feel a wobble in the trailer, wasn't sure what to think of it until my brother in law said "dude your tire is smoking!" Seems the bearings exploded on the right side tire. We were only 3 kms from my house so I limped er back home. The scene of the disaster So today I decided I would officially end the season instead of trying to get the trailer back together real quick. I built myself a motor stand, and a rack for my rods, pulled the motor off, then removed the transom which I thought was probably a little soft...well turns out it's absolutely finished. I'll take my time, replace the bearings and seals on the trailer maybe new hubs if they're needed, rebuild the transom and get some work done on the motor and hopefully we'll be ready to rock and roll in the spring. I've stayed at Riverside a couple of times, and my sister goes there a few times every summer. They have quite a few fully serviced sites, but the nicest sites are right on the water. My only complaint with this place is the same complaint heard all around these parts, too much Goose poop. http://www.stlawrenceparks.com/rc.htm Shoot me a PM if you'd like recommendations for the non-serviced sites we've really liked. We've even pulled a few nice bass out of the small inlet by the boat launch. The Long Sault Parkway is really nice but it's so close to my house I've never bothered camping there. The beaches are really nice in the parkway assuming they are open...too much bacteria from ... once again, the geese. If you book online you can also get discounted tickets to some of the local attractions, Upper Canada Village, Fort Henry (not really local), and some others. Bring clubs if you like golf, Upper Canada golf course is fantastic and cheap.
