  1. I have been looking at new boats and some are good but most are lacking in design when it comes to layout and standard equipment/ options. Some of the things I would like to see is a parts list of all the plumbing and wiring, with diagrams. This would make it so much easier than trying to explain what you need to the dealer when you have to replace something. Insulated livewells and coolers. There not that good if the lids are not insulated as well. Conduit running from front to back with some kind of pull through system for running new wiring. We pay alot for a new boat and some of the wiring jobs I have seen is pretty sad with wires running all over the place with cheapo connectors. Installed to last a couple years then things will start to fail and cause you grief.I havent seen one tinny yet with retractable rod straps on the deck. I dont want to stow my rods in the tubes when I'm just running to another spot. You get my drift.Oh yeah, water proof storage would be a great idea havent seen that yet on any tinnies so far. Lets hear your likes /dislikes.
  2. Was about 10 yrs ago and was into tourney fishing pretty heavy. A buddy calls me on a friday afternoon and asks if I want to fish a local tourney on the weekend (2 day tourney). I'm a largie, hes a smallie fisherman. Decide to do it so a big panic friday evening to get ready. Sitting on the water before blast off and he says call it what are we going after. I call largies. They were on. after day one we were in second place down by 1.5 lbs fishing against 100 teams. Day 2 at blast off I figured boats would be following us so we headed in the opposite direction on the river until things settled down then took off to the same spot we fished the day earlier. Sweet no one there and had the whole 50 acre bay to ourselves. They were on again and had the first fish in the well in 10 minutes. Had our limit in 2 hrs then spent the rest of the day culling ounces. One hour to go and I tell my buddy to throw his bait by a rock that looked really fishy. He does and bamm he gets bit and we put a 5.5lber in the boat. were jumping up and down hi fiving, it was amazing. Pack up our stuff and head to the weigh in a half hour run away. Half the field had already weighed in before us and we went into 1st place and also 1st place for big fish. The team that was ahead of us on day one waited to be last to weigh in and the suspense was killing us as we sat in the beer tent. Then they finally weighed in and ended up about 4 lbs behind us. We won. After 20 yrs of fishing this tourney we finally did it. 1000.00 for big fish of the day and 10,000.00 for finishing first. Still remember it like it was yesterday. The beer flowed free that night.
  3. Go to Total Battery and pick up a little dew hicky that you hook up to your battery when charging and it sends rapid pulse waves or something like that and knocks the crud of the plates. Also have little bottles of pink stuff you add to your battery to help restore them. It works i haved them and therre not a gimmick.
  4. They will work but are not recomended. I would go with a marine cranking battery. If i'm not mistaken my 175 calls for a battery of at least 450ca. I have always used batteries of at least 800ca or more and they last at least 5 yrs and have lots of jam to start your motor.
  5. Nitro makes a decent boat. I have owned a few of them. Lots of people bash Tracker boatst and for good reason. Their customer service on their tinnies sucks from what I have heard. I am running a 1996 884 Savage with a 175 Merc original owner and it has treated me very well. I have fished out of and piloted the majority of them and very few run a nice as the Savage hull. Mine is only 18.5 ft so I cant compare it to a 21 ft hull when in 3 ft or more swells but it handles better than alot of 21's at WOT. Set up is the big thing. I spent alot of time setting mine up when it was new and have it tweaked out perfect. 68 mph on gps, no chine walk at all. I can turn as hard as I want at full trim and dont worry about slipping or hooking. Try that in other brands that cost alot more and you will be going for a high speed swim, and I have seen it first hand. Huge casting decks and nice layout, big livewell that keeps my fish alive make for a nice fishable boat. You can pay 15 or 20k more for other brands but they are not 20k better and thats a fact. If I was in the market for a new bassboat I would be buying the new Z8 with a 250 Merc. Very quick and pretty too. My fishing partner bought a 929 4 yrs ago so we use his for tourneys now and its an awesome boat and runs really nice in the rough stuff. Its a 21 ft has an awesome layout. Just wish he would let me pilot it more often cause he's lousy and scares the crap out of me with some of the stunts he's pulled. Go for it.
  6. Awesome pics..
  7. Ya sure that shack is out far enough?
  8. Cant help you Capt. Ihave had poor luck with CT batts and Chargers over the years. When in doubt look at where it's made. This helps in deciding if i'm buying or not.
  9. Glad to hear your daughter is okay Matt. I spent alot of time coaching hockey over the years. From atom house league right up tp midget rep. My most memorable times were with the little ones just teaching what an off side was and learning to skate. In the more competative leagues I always told my players to play hard but play safe, or they would be sitting. Always had a few players that had to be kept on a short leash because of their tempers and overly aggressive play. Any dirty play and they would sit a few shifts and be told why they were sitting. It worked for me, usually had to deal with the kids old man after the game as well, pissed off that I sat his kid for the last period or whatever. Alot of times the kids play was caused by the oldman telling them to play that way. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
  10. Princecraft make nice looking boats but are not a dry ride to say the least. And I have been in lots of them and owned one. Just saying.
  11. I would go with the vinyl if I were you. Carpet is nice but I hate cleaning it and drying it out after fishing in the rain. I did my 19ft bassboat with new carpet a couple of yrs ago and it was a big job. I think I put in 50 to 60 hrs labour on that one. How much is the vinyl? I think my carpet cost me a couple hundred for my boat. Oh yeah I haven't worked with the vinyl either.
  12. I was there about 4 yrs ago. We were the first guests of the season. we were there opening day. We had a nice cabin on the island and lots of room for the six of us. I would say accomodations were good. We brought our own boats and trailered in from Tamiscaming. We took a 16 foot tinny with a 50 and a kicker and also brought our own grub. They also offer the american plan for those that like to have someone cook for them. We gave it a try instead if going back to Kikwissi as Serge's rates on Kikwissi were getting to expensive. The last time we went to Kikwissi we camped on a island and serge wasn't to impressed. The owner told us fishing would be tough since the ice was out for only a week or so but we did okay. Lots of small walleye for fish fry dinners daily. The Northern fishing was good we had two over 40" on the first day. I remember talking to the owner and he said the best time for big Northerns is in august when there all on the main lake structure. He said 30 lb Northerns are caught every year at that time. Lake Trout fishing is really good on this lake as well. Lots of big fish. The owner was really helpfull telling us where to fish for different species. Its a beautiful lake, and if your a hardcore fisherman you will enjoy figuring it out. We had to work hard for our fish. On a side note if your traiering in your own boat take your time driving in or you will bust your trailer up. I think it took us about 3 or 4 hrs to drive in from Tamiskaming but hey its all part of the road trip. Bring tools, spare tires, jacks etc cause it sucks if you have trailer issues and dont have the tools to fix it. We always had at least one issue with a trailer on any given trip to Kikwissi which is not far away from Sass. flat tire, broken bunks etc, just go real slow and if your traler is in good shape you should be fine. I would definitely go there again since it is only 6 or 7 hrs drive from my home.
  13. I think Nolan was a great coach, and was well respected by his players. Miller is a goof.
  14. Suzukis are top notch motors. I have never had one because there were no dealers in my area. Times have changed there are about 5 dealers in a 100 mile radius now. I wouldn't hesitate on buying one. And their prices are better than yammy and honda to boot. Hey does anyone remember Suzukis old 150 V-6 EFI with two spark plugs per cylinder? That was cool. I think they were first out with the EFI in the early 80's.
  15. If I was building my own, I would build a 7.5ft, full cork handles, fast/extra fast action, heavy, for a flippin stick. For spinnerbaits and cranks I usually have a rod for each. But since your building a utility rod I would go with a 7ft, med action, med weight. I haven't tried micro's but have heard alot of good things about them. Hey why not put a set of micro's on that flippin stick, you just might be suprised. And if you dont like it strip it down and put regular guides on. Hey Kemper, if you need a field tester for your creations, I'm available.
  16. Well I sent out 4 emails to various boat dealers, Lund,Alumacraft and Kingfisher. Was just asking for the msrp of their boats I am interested in. Going on 10 days and no replies from any of them. Are these numbers top secret? Any idea how long a reply takes .
  17. I would tell them were going to my fave spots and use there boats and gas to search out some new water. Just saying
  18. Raising the prop helps a bit, but not to much that it cavitiates and scares the fish. If I remember, the night before that I am going to be fishing slop, I will get a small flat file and sharpen the prop edge. Suprisingly how sharp you can get it as well as filing any nicks off the edge. This helps until you wack a big stick or a stone. I have found the 2 blade to be pretty useless. Not worth the pull you lose. If i'm not mistaken the prop I am using on my Motorguide is a Ninja prop.
  19. Place your bait in a zip lock bag and add course salt, kosher or sea salt preferred. Place in a cool area. In 24 hours pour off all the liquid that has been drawn out by the salt and replenish with more fresh salt. You cant use to much salt. Put in the fridge or freezer until ready to use. Thats it. Been doing it this way for years and it works good.
  20. I also like the Alumacraft because you can get any motor make you want for it. I'm really liking the Suzuki 90. A buddy had a 150 Suzzy on his bassboat yrs ago and it would run with 175's all day.
  21. I think power steering can be arranged.
  22. Nice boat Wiser. Seems like all these tillers are under powered to me. 36 to 40 mph with a 90hp. Put a 150 on the back and now were talking. I like the gunnell with the built in rails on the new Alumacraft. and I would want vinyl instead of carpets for sure.
  23. Hey Ben, I like the Kingfisher line as well. I think the 1725 Flex is more practical for what I want. The 1825 Trio is nice but the rod storage is lacking. These boats are built tough for sure. A 4.0 mm hull thickness is a nice touch. The flex is only 2 inches shorter then the Trio but has a 8ft beam and is rated for a 90 hp max and has lots of rod storage. definitely going to look into them a bit more. any idea on the price? I am going to email for a quote. The closest dealer to me is Sudbury, that kind of sucks. Im not to worried about resale because my next boat will be my last....I think. Still contemplating the others, Lund and Alumacraft as well. I have read quite a bit about Lund having crappy seats, that break. Have they sorted this problem out yet?
  24. I just checked out the 185 tiller with the 90. An ultimate fishing machine if I do say so.
  25. Thanks Ben will check en out.
