Thanks! It's not always luck...we get skunked most times we go out!! Yes, the fish had a definite deformity...we didn't care though...it was a nice size and put up a great fight!! Nothing like seeing the float go down.
-
Thanks everyone for your comments! It sure is nice to hook into these steelies...they put up a great fight that's for sure!! LOL Mike...Yes...my fish is 3/4 inch longer than her PB....but then again...who is counting...LOL Hey...I like that acronym...not sure if were are "muscle", but we are trying to get better at this steelheading thing...

Great report! It's awesome to start out a season with success like that! Even though the conditions of the water weren't the best, you still managed to pull some nice fish out of thre. Congrats!

Great report and pics!!! Didn't seem like your report though cause the pics are clear....LOL. Awesome job...looked like an awesome trip!

The steelhead reports seemed to slow down a bit over the course of the week...and then CANADIANCOPPER posted that awesome report yesterday!!! Well, with that as inspiration, bly and I headed out well before daylight to an eastern trib to try out our luck. The conditions seemed perfect...not quite crystal clear...a little green tinge to the water. We had high hopes for the day. About an hour after drifting, we saw a large steelie hit the surface in our area!! We both started drifting through that area...had a few strikes and then nothing...we though the fish was either spooked or had moved on. Suddenly, bly's float goes under and she sets the hook. Fish on!!! This one put up a great little fight and bly did an awesome job with a little 7 foot rod. She landed this great 26" chrome. She set the hook SOOOO hard that it actually bent right out of shape....LOL Nothing much happened for a while so we moved around a bit. We were drifting a hole with 2 other guys when we saw one jump out of the water again!! We all tried drifting thru that area, but to no avail. Every 20 minutes or so, it would hit the surface so we knew it was still there. We tried a variety of different sized and coloured roe bags at different depths, but it wouldn't take it! I put a pink worm on and I said "one more drift". Well dont you know it, the float goes down and I hook into a big one! I fought it for about 5 minutes, but never managed to get it very close to shore...the drag this one pulled was amazing. It finally broke free, but not before getting a pretty good look at it....this one was easily a 30" fish...maybe longer!! We moved upstream and my float went down again....I set the hook thinking another big one!! What I saw was my float and this small steelie flying towards my head....LOL...it almost smacked me in the face. I brought in another tiny one a little while later, and then mid morning, I saw someone bring one in about 50 feet to my right. I drifted through what I thought was a nice hole and then again, my float went down!! This one was no little one!!! I fought this one for about 5 minutes and was rewarded with this 26.75" female...weighing in at 6.75 pounds. Overall, we went 4 for 5...a great day on the trib for us. (not for guys like CC though...haha). We had to leave mid morning...have to go to my mom's place for the afternoon...who knows how many more we could have caught....oh well!!! With the rain coming, conditions will be muddy again...then cold weather with even snow in the forecast!! It was nice...this is our first report where we both caught steelhead...reminded me of our Walleye excursions. Maybe next weekend we'll get out again.

Scott....awesome for a days work! You always completely amaze me...I'm lucky if I even get one on in a day let alone landing double digits!!!

Great fish there! I also was introduced to steelhead fishing the week of Christmas. I've been out as often as I can as well...sure is addicting isn't it?? LOL.
-
You really do make me sick...you know that??? LOL Great job Scott! Bly and I are hoping to get out soon and have a report like yours! This is why you are the Chrome King....no one...and I mean no one is as consistent as you are out there.

Hmm...dont know if I'd stay anywhere with the name plague in it....LOL... Oh wait...it's La Plage...sorry....

I've had success with assorted crank baits for fall walleye...mind you I fish from shore. A few of the ones that worked well were Wallydivers - suspending model. I love my Jointed Shad Raps....#5 and #7...also suspending.

With all the dog threads as of late, I thought I'd share this story...found it on citynews.ca (aka CP24). Pretty cool story! http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_9211.aspx Dog Saves Woman's Life With Heimlich Maneuver Wednesday March 28, 2007How smart is your dog? However clever your four legged friend may be, your pet likely can't hold a candle to a two year-old golden retriever named Toby. He lives with a woman named Debbie Parkhurt in the small town of Vert, Maryland. And what he did last week simply defies explanation. The 45-year-old owner was alone in her home eating an Apple on Friday when a piece of the fruit got lodged in her throat. She began to choke and tried to perform the Heimlich maneuver on herself. It didn't work. She then began beating on her chest in an attempt to dislodge the obstruction, but that failed, too. The jewelry designer was in danger of choking to death and didn't know how she'd get help in time. That's when her 'wunderdog' went to work. Toby suddenly came up to Parkhurst, got up on his hind legs, put his paws on her shoulders, pushed her to the ground and began jumping up and down on her chest. Incredibly, his efforts succeeded and the apple bit came out of the relieved woman's mouth, allowing her to breathe again. Most people aren't trained in the Heimlich procedure and Parkhurst has no idea how her dog knew what to do. "I literally have pawprint-shaped bruises on my chest," she told her local paper. "I'm still a little hoarse, but otherwise, I'm OK. "The doctor said I probably wouldn't be here without Toby. I keep looking at him and saying 'You're amazing.'" After his effort was over, Toby kept kissing his owner to make sure she didn't fall back into an unconscious state, allowing her to get up and call for help. It seems this pet went from Heimlich to dog lick. And it's one trick her amazed owner hopes he never has to repeat.

Barometric Pressure - Fact Or Fiction?
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
We've found that a dropping barometer isn't the only indicator with where we fish. The best fishing has been when it's dropping and BELOW 102kPa. If the pressure is dropping and still over 102kPa, the bite is never on for us. For some reason, that's the magic pressure. -
Cool video! Thanks for sharing it!

Awesome stuff Scott! Wow...a few hours made a huge difference in visibility. I'm always amazed at your success!! Maybe I'll head out tonite and see what's biting....
-
Way to go Steve! The conditions didn't sound optimal at all, but you still managed to catch some. I'll be trying my luck at some night time steelies on the tribs maybe tomorrow night...after they clear up a bit more. Awaiting your pics....
-
Wow...sorry to hear about the damage Joey!! I think it's lucky that the boat wasn't in the water...the fact that they key turned may have been them trying to steel the thing and not accidental. Those @#$% things are pretty resourceful when they want to be.
-
Great report! You sure are taking advantage of every possible minute on the ice and posting some great results!
-
WOW!!!! Awesome report and unbelievable pics!! Those are some of the nicest eyes and pikes I've seen! Thanks for taking the time to report...wow...I just want to get out there fishing!!

Plans look great! Good luck with it!
