  2. Welcome to the best board on the web you two! Looking forward to your reports!
  3. Wow...great report....video, pics and fish!! Couldn't ask for a better combination!! Thanks for taking the time to post...uploading vids to youtube and all those pics takes time...
  4. We woke up on Monday to be greeted with an amazingly mild and calm morning!! When the kids were up we asked what they wanted to do today....and surprisingly, our 15 year old daughter wanted to go fishing!! Soon after that, our 5 year old was excited to go to. We didn't want to venture too far, because we were not interested in hitting the cottage traffic at the end of the day, so my oldest suggested a local conservation area. We all agreed and with that, we packed some snacks and drinks and left in the car. After paying $1.10 per litre of gas to fill up and another $5 for worms...we headed off...and 15 minutes later we were walking to the pond. We divided up into teams to see who could catch the most fish, so it was bly and our oldest, and me and our youngest. Should have known right away that whoever had me would be handicapped....LOL. We immediately began to pull out sunfish after sunfish...throw in a few bullhead that rounded out our day. The final score.... Bly and our oldest - 51 fish - All sunfish Me and our youngest - 36 fish - 33 Sunfish and 3 bullhead Here are some pics from our non-stop day....first pic is her first fish of the year! Bly and our youngest went for a walk around the pond and they found literally thousands of little tadpoles. We had read that raising them at home is probably better than letting them stay in their natural habitat if cared for properly, so we let her take about a dozen home with us. We have all we need to feed and properly aerate the water, so we're hoping that they make it. My little one said..."when their tails fall off and the legs come out, we'll bring them back here to say goodbye". Very cute to hear that. Here's a pic in their new temporary home... All in all, we had a GREAT time out there. There was no whining, no bickering...just a lot of fishing, smiles, laughs and well, sunburns on bly and our oldest....serves them right for winning....LOL I put sunscreen on our little one before we left the house...hehe.
  5. WTG!! Great report...the fish seemed to cooperate for you too! Pike are a fun species to target...I'm going to def. spend more time on them this year. The scenery shot was pretty awesome too...makes me wish I lived someplace like that....hmmm....seems retirement is TOO far away....LOL
  6. Wow...great report and it only makes me more eager to get up there for the Lakair G2G in a month!!
  7. Dan...great report!!! The pics were great as usual too. That was venus...was down at the lake and a star gazing club was down there with their telescopes...they told me that was venus...and they were offerring free peaks thru their equipment. It was pretty cool. Wow...those pics and temps remind me of my trib adventures in January!! Crazy cold out there...but you guys fished anyways and were successful...now thats perseverence for you!!! Thanks for the report....made me glad I dont live up there....LOL
  8. Glen...you are right...I do take the time to read practically every thread that's on here when I get the chance. Even if it's something I know nothing about...like boat motors, fancy GPS and fish finders etc... I cant offer anything insightful in those posts. I try to comment on as many report threads as possible...I know the effort it takes too. Great thread Glen...and to all posters...THANKS!
  9. Bly and I were thinking of fishing the shores of Lake O, but the wind made casting almost impossible and was quite chilly, so we decided to hit the trib...not expecting anything, but we did have some roe in the fridge that needed using before the tribs were done for the summer. Roe hasn't been working for us since the tribs cleared up about a month ago, but we tried it anyways. We caught lots of little browns and rock bass. One drift, my float went down, so I set the hook expecting a little brown, and I saw a flash of silver. I actually hooked a large steelhead on roe!! The problem is that after a 5 minute fight I lost it....ARGHHH!!! That one took me completely by surprise!! Those little browns were pretty fiesty....jumping out of the water multiple times...they'll be great once they get bigger! Anyways, here's a little picture summary of our few hours....fish were caught on roe, live wax worms and assorted small jigs and flys. Waters were clear and low...deep pools had a nice green tint to them.
  10. Hey there!! I'm just in Whitby...if you want to learn, let me know...we can get together and I'll show you. Once you get it down, you can do it with your eyes closed. I'll sit and watch TV and do them now.
  11. It's great to sit back and watch a child fish. Seeing their faces when they catch something is priceless. I dont get to fish much when I have my 5 yr old out, but my fishing is secondary when she's laughing and catching panfish after panfish. Thanks for sharing! Great pics! I'll be taking my daughter out this morning....and I'm sure she'll outfish me again....haha.
  12. Wow...thanks for your hard working keeping on Rogers! They admitted to the problem and are working to do something about it. That's awesome!!! Hopefully things will get better soon. My thanks go out to you and Rick...for letting me know that I wasn't crazy...both of you have done lots of work to help out us poor rogers people... Later!
  13. LOL Snog...glad you let us "outfish" you and that you kept your monster fish to yourself!! Again...we had an awesome time out there...we'll have to get together again. As for our Walleye records...I'm sure if you spent the time on them as you do the pike, you'll be hauling in some huge ones. Thanks again for being our guide for the day...I figure the cost of 2 slices of pizza was a bargain for us...we had a lot of laughs, talking and fishing...the day was nice and sunny...couldn't really ask for much more.
  14. Spiel...cant wait to meet you and all the other OFNers this year up at Lakair...it's going to be the highlight of our year. Hopefully we'll catch some fish too...but to me the catching part is secondary...looking forward to the people and the experience.
  15. Wow!! Those are some huge Channel Cats!!! Congrats on the PB ....awesome report and great pics! Just took another look....yep...those are channel cats..... GO TEAM 6!!!!!
  16. Great job out there!! Bly and I tried a bit of night time fishing...had a few hits...saw a flash of chrome and that was about it. Bly pulled in a nice 11 inch rock bass...hit a fly....LOL. We're hoping to catch one or two more...maybe today...gotta use up about 10 roe bags...dont want them to go to waste. Thanks for the pics bro....hope the moving and job still allows an hour or two for fishing!
  17. Nice job out there!! Great report...very well written...almost felt like I was there! Thanks for the pics...looked like a great time out on the water.
  18. Thanks everyone....it's easy to forget that there are lots of fish in such a great urban environment. Like I said before...I've lived here my whole life and never went to the Islands....I'll be back again for sure...next time with the kids in tow!
  19. I've rented a boat a few times out of Port Perry and never caught a fish from it....LOL. The only thing we seem to catch are panfish...and my 5 yr old rules our family in that regard... Hope you have better luck next time!
  20. Wow...that is kind of funny! The bullhead in our area have hit worms...even large spoons...but not minnows. There's nothing like fishing for salmon, walleye or pike with spoons...to have a bullhead hit it on a fast/medium retrieve...LOL
  21. Hope you have a great time out there. Weather is supposed to be great for today. Good luck!
  22. Good luck out there!!! I hope to see a nice report full of nice sized eyes!! Will be waiting for it...
  23. Wow!! She sure knows how to catch some nice sized sunnies!! Looked like she had a great time too. I love their smiles when they catch fish...it's priceless! Thanks for the pic and report!
  24. MJL...that pic of you casting is really cool!! That's one thing I'd love to try one day...takes a lot of skill to handle the line like that. Better luck on the fish next time...I'm sure we'll start seeing lots of fish in your next reports!
  25. Bly and I had the honour of meeting up with Snog today for some Toronto Island Piking! We've wanted to fish with Snog since last fall....and his hilarious Salmon post...LOL. We had never specifically targeted Pike before and we were looking forward to a great day of learning and conversation....and hopefully catch a few fish!Anyhow, we agreed to meet at the ferry between 6 and 7am. Bly and I arrived at 6am, and put our lines in the water hoping for some early pike while waiting for Snog to arrive. No luck there. He arrived close to 7am. After quick introductions, we boarded the ferry. Since we were not really setup for pike, he was nice enough to give us some of his home made leaders...we put them on during the ride over and we were all set! Here's a picture of the great Toronto skyline...I never get tired of seeing this perspective of the city. We began our walking (and we did lots of that today!!), and arrived at a few spots that he's had luck at in the past. We cast a few lines...no action, so we moved on. The waters were still a bit stained from the storms that came through a few days ago, so visibility wasn't great. Snog then suggested we try a spot where he'd never heard of any pike coming out of...about 10 minutes later, I caught the first fish of the day...a nice "warm up" pike. We had great conversations...a lot of laughs, and with him as our guide, we followed him wherever he walked...except for here...apparently he needs to touch up on his reading skills....haha. We then tried a bunch of other spots with only a few follows to our credit. By 11:30am, we were getting pretty hungry and we stopped for some pizza slices on Center Island. We saw LOTS of BIG Carp swimming around in the shallows wherever we went...too bad I left my Carp gear at home....maybe the next trip down there, I'll give that a try. After lunch, we continued to try some spots....before long, Snog yells out that he has one on!! I take the camera out...getting ready to see what the Pike Master would pull out of the water. My adrenaline was pumping through my body....to see him pull this out of the water.... Ok...so not a pike...but it was a pretty decent sized bullhead....LOL. A little while later, Bly shouts "Fish on" and the battle begins! She has never caught a pike before so she was really hoping that this would be her first. She also got a new Fenwick rod for Christmas and was more than a little perturbed that it has NEVER caught her a fish yet...so this fish made it all more exciting for her! Finally, she lands what ends up being the biggest fish of the day....a very respectable 27" Pike. By now, Snog is getting worried that we were going to outfish him...he decides he needs every advantage he can get, so he wanders out in the water to get extra distance on his casts!! It must have worked, because a few minutes later, he brings in what turns out to be the smallest pike of the day....LOL. All in all, we had a great day out there! I was born in Toronto and have lived in the GTA my whole life...and this was the first time I had ever set foot on the Islands. Bly and I would like to thank Snog, for a great day chatting and fishing...we had an amazing time out there!! Hope we can do it again!
