My day started at 5:45am. I got up to go to work. There were light showers outside...just as forecast. I hopped in the car at 6:30 and started the trek into Toronto. At around Morningside Ave, my wipers stopped...just like that...in the middle of the windshield!! I could barely see the road!!! I got off at the next exit and safely parked in a parking lot, and then called home. Bly checked the radar and it didn't look like it was going to stop raining anytime soon, so I called CAA. I had them tow me home. We've had problems with the wiper motor before, so I knew where to start working. After removing the motor I found out that it was finally blown. I call a parts place and they have to order it. I then decided it was time to leave this mess.... I checked the time...perfect for having a bite to eat...walking the little one to school, and then out to a local fishing hole for some carp!!! LOL. Bly and I packed up the car and got there at 1pm. We had about 2 hours to fish. We were hoping to have a daytime report....007 had requested one, so we hoped this one would include a fish or two. There were a few others there, so we setup our rods and cast out there. There was someone in the spot we wanted to fish, so we had to make due with where we were. Well...no line bumps, no action, no nothing!!! We chatted with a bunch of classic car owners from North Bay...they were lost and needed directions to the local Princess Auto. They asked what we were fishing for...Bly said "big carp!"...they guys yelled out "Attagirl!!!". LOL Anyhow, the guy who was in our preferred spot left, so we moved over and cast our lines. About 10 minutes later, my line is pulled...fish on! I had cast wayyy out there, so this one took about 15 minutes to land. Here it is...a 29", 13 pounder. Time was running out...we had to leave at 3pm. I decided to try get some positive karma by getting a trash bag and picking up litter along the banks. (or I ran out of chum...LOL). As I'm doing this, I look up and see Bly fighting a fish!!! She had 10 minutes to land the fish...we had to get our little one from school!! Here was her fish...30", weighing in at 12 pounds. Well, hopefully our other car will break down tomorrow so I can fish again...LOL. It's true...the fish look brighter in the daylight...dont get me wrong...still ugly, but brighter....haha.

Well, bly and I have checked a bunch of spots that hold lots of Carp in our area. While we cant see lots of fish, we can see plenty of activity at the water's surface. The jumping right out of the water has slowed down, but we see them "rolling" at the surface in one spot in shallow water. We are assuming this is the spawning process. Ok...I know it depends on temperature etc, but how long on average can you expect them to continue? Do they start biting again once it's over or do they move out? People I've talked to around here say that they stay all summer long, but I'm not sure if that's true. I'm not sure I have the patience to chum areas to keep them in a certain area or not. Anyhow, just wondering what to expect. Thanks!

Wow...to have action like that is a dream to me! Great day out there Badger Shark!! So, now you know...they are not pretty fish, but they put up a great fight. Congrats on your fish ever Carp...another species you can now say you've caught! -
Great sign Wayne!! So true too. Sounds like bly and I...we walk up to new water and look in. If we see a fish we then figure out how to catch the darned thing....LOL. My grandfather fished....mind you, his was commercial in nature, off the coast of BC back in the 40's.

LOL...one of these days we're all gonna read in the newspapers "Local Angler Arrested for Indecent Exposure" Great job out there UA!! Sounded like my Friday night that's for sure! Congrats on your fish...took some work, but you got him in. Oh and as far as bullhead are concerned, don't cut your line because 1...you cant afford to work with any less line and 2, it's not worth losing a hook for!!! LOL

WOW!! What an awesome report...too bad there wasn't a real planned G2G...I would have ventured out there myself! To meet up with that many accomplished carpers would have been an honour for me! The numbers were awesome...the action seemed great. Amazing pics...amazing results. I went out tonite, but every spot I went to was just teaming with spawning fish...not even a line bump for me! Congrats on a great outing!

Great fish Jigger! That is one fish I'd love to hook into this year...dont care about size...just want to experience it.

Hey there 007! I remember when you first mentioned your quest for the year and I have enjoyed all your reports to date! Congrats on your first ever white perch...I've never caught one of those myself. Looking forward to your next outing and report....and hoping you are able to cross another off your list of target species for the year!

Yep...for May, I think I shore fished almost every day.

It was a great night to be outside last night, so bly and I went to our usual carping spot. We have noticed a decline in activity over the past week, so we had no idea what to expect. We arrived around 9pm and I cast my line in the water. A gentleman we talked to earlier in the week was there with his 6 year old son....he tried to set up his own carp setup, but needed a little help. We got him all set up and we all had our lines in the water. By 10pm, and no line bumps, so jumping, no nothing, the 6 year old was falling asleep! They went home shortly after. Bly and I kept our lines in the water until 1130 and finally decided to give up on this spot. This was the first time we had no line bumps!! We drove a short while to another spot we'd heard there were large numbers...we had no idea where to fish, so we started out on a side close to where we parked our car. Another 30 minutes, and nothing...but at least we heard some activity!! Problem was it was clear on the other side of the water, and we couldn't cast there from where we were. So, we packed up and began walking...trying to get as close as we could. We found a spot where we had a chance to land one if we hooked one and threw our lines back in the water. Then we saw something that made our heart sink a little. About 40 feet in front of us, we could see fish at the surface....their fins sticking up and not moving from their spot. Uh uh...the dreaded spawn!! In desperation, I cast my line away from that area and sat there...waiting. Again, no line bumps and no action. Suddenly, at 1:30am, without warning, drag began peeling from my reel! This was a nice sized one. It took about 20 minutes to bring in. It went away from me...then wayyy to my right...to my left...everywhere! Just as I got it in close, it would bolt again...I didn't want to lose this fish! Then, my heart sank...there was a huge tree branch in the water...sticking out about 6 feet into the water....my line got tangled in it. Bly ran over, reached into the water and began to drag that huge branch up on the shore. I felt no tension anymore, I thought he broke off. Bly finally had the log close enough to reach for my line and lo and behold the carp was still there!!! I gave some slack and she managed to unwrap my line....the fight was back on!! A few minutes later, it finally came in...this 33 inch, 19 pound 7 ounce carp. I had hopes of a personal best (34.5", 21 pounds), but it was not to be! The dreaded log!!!!! And my Fishy!!! It was banged up...notice the top fin and damaged scales. The other side was worse. And that's my fish story for the day....LOL.

yummy yummy fish. Great job out there guys! You worked for it and got the results you were looking for! -
Yep! This board has wasted many many many hours of my life....LOL. Never a waste...very entertaining and educational thats for sure! Glad you appreciate it well enough to start a thread!
-
LOL...I knew I'd forget someone....anyone willing to strip down to their boxers to swim and retrieve their fishing rod is pretty dedicated....either that or broke and cant afford a new rod...haha
-
I agree with you on the scammers...sorry I missed the point!

There was a "regular" who panhandled near my office at the corner of Yonge and Eglinton. A friend of mine happened to be on the same subway as him at the end of a day. He got off at the same stop...got into his BMW and left. Hmmm... At the same time, you hear stories of people the system forgot...the truly homeless who need a little help helping themselves out of a funk. Hard call to generalize everyone...we dont know their situation...how they got there, what obstacles they faced if they tried to get out of their situation, their mental state etc.... I suppose unless you've been there, you cant really relate.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but there are a few veteran Carp anglers out there, who have a better chance! Guys like DSN, Photoz, MJL, Wolfville and Victor just to name a few! Those are guys I look up to for Carp...they have the experience, the equipment and probably most important...the locations!!! LOL.

I asked a similar question a while ago...here's a link to that thread. I just got into creek fishing this year too...it's a blast! http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...ic=4920&hl=
