  1. The Kawarthas (Division 6) is closing in a few short days. I was just wondering how everyone's year was on those lakes? Did the carp die off that started in Scugog and spread to other lakes affect your decision to fish the Kawarthas? Did the lower than normal water levels affect fishing or where to launch/fish from shore? This was my first full year fishing, and although I didn't get out a whole lot, I did manage to fish a few lakes. Fishnsled was kind enough to take Bly and I to Stoney, Pigeon and Cameron hunting muskie and bass. Basskicker took me to Rice to chase down some bass. Bly and I fished Chemong Lake with a good friend of ours and my cousin met up with us late in the season to fish Rice again. We also took the canoe to Scugog, rented a boat there and then fished in our own boat there a few times in the past few weeks. Also had a few shore fishing trips there as well. Oh yeah...I also attended a mini carp G2G up in Peterborough and met up with MJL, Wolfville and Victor. I did manage my personal best Muskie on Scugog, and we did get into some bass and walleye during our outings as well, but nothing that I could call BIG numbers overall. My answer, only because it was my first year and have nothing else to compare it to is it was an average year for numbers. The Carp die off did curtail many trips to Scugog where we like to shore fish with my daughter, so I have to say it did affect our fishing decisions this year. Anyhow, how did you do?
  2. Hey Gerritt...I'm a Western Grad (1992) as well...although I was about as far away from athletics as one can get. I'm not sure if the Spoke is still there....but I was in a band that played there from time to time. Great memories of that place! Also used to frequent the Elbow Room in UCC....I heard that's gone now....
  3. Sweet report! You had to work for it, but you were paid off handsomely!
  4. LOL Brian.... I should correct that....we cant catch Walleye from a boat...but I'm sure you'll be sure to change that this weekend! Oh yeah...and Shawn....maybe we should somehow incorporate OFNCommunity.com on that paper....so that any fish caught would also qualify for the OFC Tourney as well.
  5. Wow Joey!!! Amazing report...and congrats on those muskies!! Looking forward to Quinte and seeing you and Paul again.
  6. Jason...I have to admit that I couldn't figure out why they decided to fish literally 5 feet from you either that day I was with you, when we were the only two on that entire stretch of water. But then again, some people I dont understand. Those plastics look amazing!!! Imagine if they work...never having to tie roe bags ever again!!!
  7. LOL...remember, Bly and I cant catch anything from a boat....so I think you'll be safe. Our entry is just for donating to Fishing for Tyler....hehe.
  8. Shawn...one thing I've noticed about 8 pound + walleye is that they are all in the area of 30 to 33 inches in size....so it's quite possible for many fish to be tied for top spot. What about taking a girth measurement as well...maybe not for the photo as we want to get these fish back in the water, but just mark it down on that form. So..in the case of a tie in length, the girth can be used to break that tie. Just a suggestion.
  9. Bly and I are in Shawn!
  10. Thanks...on the way home Bly asked if I was going to write a report and I said no. Then, after I got home, I got an idea....I wanted to show the ice, but instead of a usual "we didn't catch" anything, I thought I'd tell the fishing story in pictures. Glad you enjoyed it!
  11. Welcome to the board! You'll fit in quite nicely here...esp if you keep posting fish like that! Great job...I gotta get me some trout soon too!
  12. So if you dont have a boat, you dont need a float suit....LOL. Unless you take part in ice fishing....brrrr.....
  13. WHOA!!! Nice fat muskie! Congrats on a great catch!
  14. Cool! Great catch...something I've never seen up close and personal before.
  15. Good on you for getting out there in those conditions! Great report Rich....the boat may be put away, but I know we'll be seeing some more reports!
  16. Yep! Shawn's the man. He took me out last year on Quinte and I learned TONS from him. I didn't even know inline planer boards existed before that trip. Nice haul of fish Kevin....and good on you Shawn for continuing to teach the fine art of Walleye fishing!
  17. Wow Shawn! You are the king of Quinte! Amazing stuff!
  18. Tell you what Brian...you can more than pay for the whole Qinte G2G this weekend!!! Just put in on credit and when the money comes in you're golden!!! Oh yeah...could you buy me a float suit?? Congrats!
  19. Hey man!!! I thought we talked about this.... WHAT HAPPENS AT THE FISHING HOLE STAYS AT THE FISHING HOLE!!! And I didn't say immortal.
  20. Hey!! Great job!! I tried for Chrome on Friday...same conditions....and didn't catch anything. Great looking fish and I didn't know it was photoshopped...thought it was snow....
  21. Bly and I figured this was our last chance to fish the Kawarthas, since they are closed this week. Where did this fishing season go? Talk about time flying by fast! Anyhow, this was our second trip in the boat...and we were hoping to get some slime in it today. We got to Island Marina on Lake Scugog at about 9am, with high hopes for a great day of fishing. Bly went inside to pay for the launch, and I got the boat prepped. Anyhow, I took a look at the water and had to do a double take. Ice? ICE? AAAAAACK!!!!! THERE WAS ICE AT THE LAUNCH!!! Not just a little bit...but....here...take a look.... After getting over the shock, I backed up the trailer to the water and put the boat in. CRAAAAACK......CREEEEEEEK went the ice. This ice was pretty thick in places! When we began to back up to turn the boat around, the ice actually stopped us....LOL. We had to get the oars to break up the ice all around us so we could turn the boat around. After a few minutes, we were in open water.....PHEW!!! It was pretty windy and cold out today, but we didn't care....we were dressed for it and ready to fish until just before sundown. The bite was, ummmmmm.....non existant!!! LOL. Bly has never driven a boat before, so I let her take control of the boat while I casted my arm out of it's socket. Here she is intently looking at the fish finder. There were fish being marked all day at 2 feet.....JUST two feet...every time there was a fish, it was 2 feet!!!! I think we need a new fishfinder....LOL. The morning turned to afternoon, and the only thing biting was us eating our lunch. I begin throwing one of these suicks..... I look down and my heart skips a beat!! There is in fact at least ONE fish in this lake!!! I saw one of these following my lure right to the boat..... At the last second, it turns away....so Bly followed up with one of these!! She feels some weight!!! She sets the hook!!! We wait in anticipation!! Will this be her first ever muskie????? Soon, this surfaced...... Awwww crap. Oh well...the day wasn't over quite yet. We continued to putter around the lake until we got a phone call from home...our little one had locked herself in her room and wasn't coming out until we came home...LOL. We took that as our cue.....all that work and all we ended up with was this..... A lot did go right though....for instance, I remembered the plug this time....the motor started up after just 2 pulls of the cord, and for 6 hours, we had peace and quiet out on the water. Ahhh...fishing....WHO THE @#$!@#% INVENTED IT??
  22. Un-Freakin-believable!!! Well done Mike!!!!
  23. Great job Kemper! I was out at a local trib yesterday (Friday) mid afternoon...took a look at the water and also couldn't believe how low and clear it was considering the rains the day before. I only spent 40 minutes drifting in pools I knew there were no fish in....cause I could see all the way to the bottom....LOL.
  24. It's pretty amazing what kind of shore fishing opportunities there are within an hour radius of Toronto. Pike, Carp, bass in bigger waters....salmon, trout etc in the creeks. If you do a little homework and footwork then you have a great chance at some nice fish. I took notes...looks like a great place to put the boat....hehe.
