Wow Joey!!! Amazing report...and congrats on those muskies!! Looking forward to Quinte and seeing you and Paul again.

Jason...I have to admit that I couldn't figure out why they decided to fish literally 5 feet from you either that day I was with you, when we were the only two on that entire stretch of water. But then again, some people I dont understand. Those plastics look amazing!!! Imagine if they work...never having to tie roe bags ever again!!!

Shawn...one thing I've noticed about 8 pound + walleye is that they are all in the area of 30 to 33 inches in size....so it's quite possible for many fish to be tied for top spot. What about taking a girth measurement as well...maybe not for the photo as we want to get these fish back in the water, but just mark it down on that form. So..in the case of a tie in length, the girth can be used to break that tie. Just a suggestion. -

Bly and I are in Shawn! -
Thanks...on the way home Bly asked if I was going to write a report and I said no. Then, after I got home, I got an idea....I wanted to show the ice, but instead of a usual "we didn't catch" anything, I thought I'd tell the fishing story in pictures. Glad you enjoyed it!

Welcome to the board! You'll fit in quite nicely here...esp if you keep posting fish like that! Great job...I gotta get me some trout soon too!

So if you dont have a boat, you dont need a float suit....LOL. Unless you take part in ice fishing....brrrr..... -
WHOA!!! Nice fat muskie! Congrats on a great catch!
-
Cool! Great catch...something I've never seen up close and personal before.

Good on you for getting out there in those conditions! Great report Rich....the boat may be put away, but I know we'll be seeing some more reports!

Yep! Shawn's the man. He took me out last year on Quinte and I learned TONS from him. I didn't even know inline planer boards existed before that trip. Nice haul of fish Kevin....and good on you Shawn for continuing to teach the fine art of Walleye fishing!

Bly and I figured this was our last chance to fish the Kawarthas, since they are closed this week. Where did this fishing season go? Talk about time flying by fast! Anyhow, this was our second trip in the boat...and we were hoping to get some slime in it today. We got to Island Marina on Lake Scugog at about 9am, with high hopes for a great day of fishing. Bly went inside to pay for the launch, and I got the boat prepped. Anyhow, I took a look at the water and had to do a double take. Ice? ICE? AAAAAACK!!!!! THERE WAS ICE AT THE LAUNCH!!! Not just a little bit...but....here...take a look.... After getting over the shock, I backed up the trailer to the water and put the boat in. CRAAAAACK......CREEEEEEEK went the ice. This ice was pretty thick in places! When we began to back up to turn the boat around, the ice actually stopped us....LOL. We had to get the oars to break up the ice all around us so we could turn the boat around. After a few minutes, we were in open water.....PHEW!!! It was pretty windy and cold out today, but we didn't care....we were dressed for it and ready to fish until just before sundown. The bite was, ummmmmm.....non existant!!! LOL. Bly has never driven a boat before, so I let her take control of the boat while I casted my arm out of it's socket. Here she is intently looking at the fish finder. There were fish being marked all day at 2 feet.....JUST two feet...every time there was a fish, it was 2 feet!!!! I think we need a new fishfinder....LOL. The morning turned to afternoon, and the only thing biting was us eating our lunch. I begin throwing one of these suicks..... I look down and my heart skips a beat!! There is in fact at least ONE fish in this lake!!! I saw one of these following my lure right to the boat..... At the last second, it turns away....so Bly followed up with one of these!! She feels some weight!!! She sets the hook!!! We wait in anticipation!! Will this be her first ever muskie????? Soon, this surfaced...... Awwww crap. Oh well...the day wasn't over quite yet. We continued to putter around the lake until we got a phone call from home...our little one had locked herself in her room and wasn't coming out until we came home...LOL. We took that as our cue.....all that work and all we ended up with was this..... A lot did go right though....for instance, I remembered the plug this time....the motor started up after just 2 pulls of the cord, and for 6 hours, we had peace and quiet out on the water. Ahhh...fishing....WHO THE @#$!@#% INVENTED IT??

Un-Freakin-believable!!! Well done Mike!!!!

Great job Kemper! I was out at a local trib yesterday (Friday) mid afternoon...took a look at the water and also couldn't believe how low and clear it was considering the rains the day before. I only spent 40 minutes drifting in pools I knew there were no fish in....cause I could see all the way to the bottom....LOL.

It's pretty amazing what kind of shore fishing opportunities there are within an hour radius of Toronto. Pike, Carp, bass in bigger waters....salmon, trout etc in the creeks. If you do a little homework and footwork then you have a great chance at some nice fish. I took notes...looks like a great place to put the boat....hehe.
-
We need more Calgon!!! Thanks for that description Stan....
-
Thanks for leaving some fish for bly and I Mark! Looked like a great day to be out there. I like the "desummarize" line....LOL. Hope you've had a great soft water year of fishing...and thanks for your reports!
-
Great report Jen...and as far as I'm concerned, you landed that fish. If it gets that far then you just intentionally released it in the water so you wouldn't stress is out even more.

Walleye numbers are showing up in Bay of Quinte

Great info Sam!! Hope to see you next weekend at the G2G. We'll bring that frozen walleye with us if you are still interested in it. -
This was the first full year of fishing for me....but I dont think I could really ask for more, especially since most of my fishing is done from shore. My goal was to achieve Avid Angler status with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. To do this, you need to achieve minimum lengths of fish in at least 5 of their 10 categories. Here's a list of qualifying fish I have....8 out of 10 categories. Click on the links to see pics... Northern Pike (min 30 inches) - 32 inches - 8.25lbs Rainbow Trout (min 21 inches) - 28 inches (personal best) Carp (Minimum 30 inches) - 37 inches 24 lbs (personal best) Smallmouth Bass (minimum 17 inches) - 18 inches - 2.5lbs (personal best) Largemouth Bass (minimum 18 inches) - 18.5 inches - 3lbs (personal best) Perch (minimum 12 inches) - 12 inches Chinook Salmon (minimum 36 inches) - 39 inches - 24.5lbs (personal best) Muskie (minimum 36") - 39 inches - 15lbs (personal best) So, it's been a year I could never have expected...with 6 personal bests. Bly and I are excited to start a new chapter in our fishing....next spring will be our first full year with a boat that we just purchased. So, if I had to rank it....it would be 9 out of 10. I have a chance to get an OFAH qualifying walleye, but whitefish will elude me this year....making me one short of all ten categories. Oh well...I'll have to get out on Simcoe next year to try to catch one! I also have had the pleasure of attending my first swill...where I first met members like Joey, Tybo, Hearingfish and Clampitt....then the fishing for Tyler event at Simcoe (too many to mention here), Lakair (WAYYY to many to mention) and next weekend will be the Quinte G2G. Also...I've had the honour to fish with Slowpoke, Rick OBanion, Gerritt, Nipissing, Fishnsled, Basskicker, Fishndevil, Snag, Solopaddler and of course my wife Bly.
