  1. We need more Calgon!!! Thanks for that description Stan....
  2. Thanks for leaving some fish for bly and I Mark! Looked like a great day to be out there. I like the "desummarize" line....LOL. Hope you've had a great soft water year of fishing...and thanks for your reports!
  3. Great report Jen...and as far as I'm concerned, you landed that fish. If it gets that far then you just intentionally released it in the water so you wouldn't stress is out even more.
  4. Great info Sam!! Hope to see you next weekend at the G2G. We'll bring that frozen walleye with us if you are still interested in it.
  5. This was the first full year of fishing for me....but I dont think I could really ask for more, especially since most of my fishing is done from shore. My goal was to achieve Avid Angler status with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. To do this, you need to achieve minimum lengths of fish in at least 5 of their 10 categories. Here's a list of qualifying fish I have....8 out of 10 categories. Click on the links to see pics... Northern Pike (min 30 inches) - 32 inches - 8.25lbs Rainbow Trout (min 21 inches) - 28 inches (personal best) Carp (Minimum 30 inches) - 37 inches 24 lbs (personal best) Smallmouth Bass (minimum 17 inches) - 18 inches - 2.5lbs (personal best) Largemouth Bass (minimum 18 inches) - 18.5 inches - 3lbs (personal best) Perch (minimum 12 inches) - 12 inches Chinook Salmon (minimum 36 inches) - 39 inches - 24.5lbs (personal best) Muskie (minimum 36") - 39 inches - 15lbs (personal best) So, it's been a year I could never have expected...with 6 personal bests. Bly and I are excited to start a new chapter in our fishing....next spring will be our first full year with a boat that we just purchased. So, if I had to rank it....it would be 9 out of 10. I have a chance to get an OFAH qualifying walleye, but whitefish will elude me this year....making me one short of all ten categories. Oh well...I'll have to get out on Simcoe next year to try to catch one! I also have had the pleasure of attending my first swill...where I first met members like Joey, Tybo, Hearingfish and Clampitt....then the fishing for Tyler event at Simcoe (too many to mention here), Lakair (WAYYY to many to mention) and next weekend will be the Quinte G2G. Also...I've had the honour to fish with Slowpoke, Rick OBanion, Gerritt, Nipissing, Fishnsled, Basskicker, Fishndevil, Snag, Solopaddler and of course my wife Bly.
  6. Snag and I haven't hooked up for some pike since the spring, so after seeing his last report I got in touch with him and today was the day. I left my suburban home this morning at 5:45 so we could meet at 7am. I get there first, to a beautiful fall morning. The winds were calm, the waters were glass, and the air had that slight frosty feel to it. That all gets destroyed when he barrels in the parking area, sees me and starts blasting his horn....and begins waving to me like a mad man. I just looked away, pretending I didn't know this man....LOL. Anyhow, he gives me a quick tour of the area and we begin our walk to the first fishing spot. There are lots of rocks around where we have to walk and he asks how my boots were...I said they were fine. Not 2 minutes later, I'm sliding down a rock face on my butt....LOL. We begin casting out there and we both get follows pretty quickly! This could be a banner day! Then...nothing...no follows a lot of chatting, but nothing. Snag gets the first fish...smaller fish, but they were pretty scrappy! A little while goes by and soon it becomes clear to me that he's going to be fish hog...and he lands another one! Remember that post he did a while ago about pike lures that he buys at Dollarama? Well, he takes one out of his tackle box and shows it to me...the thing doesn't even swim straight...when you retrieve it, it barrel rolls over and over....LOL. So, to add insult to injury he begins casting it out there....with me throwing that brand named expensive lure....a Husky Jerk. Guess who gets the next fish with his Dollarama lure??? Yep....here it is in action.... And the money shot.... He then tells me that the person with the least number of landed fish has to post the report...LOL. We had about 1/2 left to fish before he headed off to work. I keep casting out there...hoping I dont go home with the big skunkaroo.... Suddenly I feel a hit. A quick hook set and I finally get to fight a fish...a small one, but I didn't really care...LOL We saw a few interesting things while we were out....I think Snag may post a few pics to this thread....I'll let him tell the story though. Snag is a pretty amazing guy to watch fishing! Here we are, throwing the same baits, using basically the same setups, and he consistently hooks into fish. We're thinking of heading out again next week...and hopefully get into some of those bigger fall fed fish. Thank Snag...always a great time fishing with you.....until next time bud!
  7. Great stuff Jason and fishtat! Hopefully we'll get out again soon!
  8. I use a spinning rod...no problems whatsoever...if you have a good drag then you're good to go.
  9. I'd say no. I liked him as a player. He was dominating when he was on his game, but I don't think he ever played an entire season did he? I may be wrong there. He wasn't consistent enough in my opinion to get into the Hall.
  10. LOL...I meant the original post...haha
  11. Ok Keram...proper translation of the text please!!!!
  12. I suppose...but at least you get a tank and bowl for $495. I see now the majority are 295...the ones that I clicked on at first ranged from $325 to over $400.
  13. I use a Shimano Convergence...i don't think it was any more than 100 bucks. So far so good on it...not as whippy as some noodle rods I've used.
  14. I just about crapped when I saw the prices (pun intended). Seriously though...very interesting...if I had loads of money I had no idea what to do with, this would be one of the first things I'd buy
  15. Great report and pic! I saw a few flakes of dandruff falling from the sky at lunch here in Toronto...must have been seeing things!!! Pinkies work great for me too...esp when roe isn't working!
  16. Hey...my co-workers father's best buddy's cousin's barber caught that pike in a remote lake in Manitoba...it was HUGE....anyone want me to post a pic...even snapped a photo of the pike with the fish in it's mouth!!
  17. I'm a lucky guy....my wife (bly) is just as obsessed with fishing (if not more) than I am!! She gets insanely jealous when I head out without her....LOL.
  18. I'm with you Zib....I just started hitting the tribs a year ago. I had no idea if I'd even like it, so I went to the fishing show, bought a 60 dollar 10.5 footer, used my spinning reel and began learning how to fish for steelhead. It wont take long before you begin to form your own opinions about what is right for you. Good luck!
  19. Oh man...why why why why why????
  20. If I had no idea what was in the water then I'd have to agree with Peter...jig with white twister tail. I'd also bring along some real worms.
  21. Hey there Danimal! Welcome to the community. That's a beauty fish in your avatar! Looking forward to your reports. Cliff
  22. Muskie, Tiger Muskie, Pike.... I like to call it "Big fish eat little fish" There...someone disagree with me....LOL
  23. Hmmm...a trip? Well, lemme see....the Canadian Dollar is up 25% in recent times....so compared buying US money.....it's a deal. So, take my disposable income and I think I have about $24.56 dollars US!!!! Ok...gotta go check some last minutes deals....
  24. Great report Wayne! My view on fishing has a lot to do with what Lew said when I first joined the board (and he still says it from time to time). You cant catch anything from your living room! Looked cold and windy....def not a day for my little tinny, but then again, some of my best fishing days are in those conidtions.
