ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Job is complete! Thanks all for your advice and tips.... You can see pics here.... http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21165 -
Wow...after all that, I'm not even sure if I'd have stayed out there! You did great bro-in-law....especially considering the conditions/equipment failure you had to endure! You going fishing again soon? LOL. Next year, you are coming to Lakair....you'll have a blast!

Wow....plenty of things wrong with this report.... 1) There's lots of fish pics. 2) There's pics of you holding fish. 3) You look like a family man. Jeez...just when you think you know someone....LOL. Amazing report TJ...got lots of work done, you plugged my employer, and caught fish. That pike was HUGE!!! Congrats to Monique on that one. The bass looked plentiful too....congrats to all of you on this Canada Day weekend.

Headin up to Lakair.. An open invitation..
ccmtcanada replied to Gerritt's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure I want to be in a boat with a nasty stain on it Gerritt....LOL. That's a great offer...wish I could take the time off, or I'd bring Carole and the kids up for sure! Good luck out there. -
Smartdonkey...LOL

Yeah...I thought the same about the water seal, but I had a can of that stuff from when I sealed the deck. Water does bead up on it however and since it's covered, it should not wear down from direct sunlight. Time will tell, and the wood was cheap, so if I need to change it up it's an easy job.

Our thanks to you and Leslie for another great year. This was only our second, but you can be sure next year will be our 3rd! Also, very sorry to hear about Leslie's mother.....our thoughts and condolences go out to all the family and friends. Cliff and Carole.

Great report Joey! Looks like you and Paul had a great week up there. You mentioned 'almost' fishing with Spiel....I'm impressed you held on while he did circles round and round at full throttle....LOL. Great seeing you guys as always.

LOL...my heart skipped a beat when I saw the first WRONG. Can't wait to try it out.

So these things catch fish too? Where do I put the line and hook?? Near the bottom? Is that what sabiki rigs are for??? LOL. Thanks everyone. I took the advice from a lot of OFNers on this one. Hopefully Tuesday we'll get it out on the water to test it out.

Ok...let me start by saying that I usually am not that great with wood and tools...LOL. I've done a few jobs around the house where it doesn't really matter if the thing actually looked good or not...my stuff tends to be functional...not pretty. Anyhow, the bow of my boat was not big enough to handle this trolling motor that we got from Roy. Thanks again Roy! This is what I was dealing with. After putting a few threads up on what to use as material (aluminum vs wood) as well as placement for the motor, I finally decided on what to do. First was cutting the wood and treating it all with Thompson's Water Seal. Here's a pic of the pieces I cut after the sealing. Last night I put the carpet on all the pieces that will be visible. Not a great job, but not a bad one either. I securely bolted all the pieces in place, using rubber washers where metal met the aluminum on the boat (thanks for the tip Gerritt). I also mounted it so that nothing would hit a dock. I'm going to replace my bow light with one on a 12" pole, so I decided to mount the motor right on the nose. Here's the final result. Pics with the motor stowed. Pics with the motor deployed. I had to improvise a little because the space between the aluminum nose of the boat and the piece I had cut for the support didn't line up level. Here's a pic of the underside. I took Sinker's advice and used 2x2s and attached them just under the gunwhale. If the shelf I made begins to sag a bit, I'll put a support under it, but so far it's pretty rock solid. So, I just have to hook up the electrical part of it, and it's good to go out for a test run. The arm locks and unlocks easily, so I'm pretty confident everything is level. If anyone sees anything that could improve it, please let me know. Thanks again for all your help on this one.

NF - Anyone know where I can get an aluminum plate?
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Thanks again everyone! I cut all the pieces of wood yesterday morning and then sanded and treated it all with Thompson's Water Seal. Went out in the afternoon to get carpeting and finished that part last night. The 2x2's are in place and the piece fits perfectly. I'll snap a few pics once I get the job done later today...it's turning out looking nicer than I thought it would. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday we'll be able to get the boat out on the water to test it all out! Thanks again. -
Installing Bow Mount Trolling Motor....
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Thanks all!! I'm thinking of getting that 12" bow light that Roy suggested...calling around to a few places now to see what that's going to cost. I have a battery operated one right now that will work until I can get one installed. Should have it done this afternoon. -
I was just wondering out there how people have theirs mounted...placement-wise. Most installations I have seen have bracket placed so that the trolling motor is right off the bow. My predicament is that I have a bow light right at the end. Is there much performance issue of the trolling motor if I leave the light there and have the motor off on one side of the boat? Here's a diagram of what I'm thinking of doing.... I can put side bow lights on...extra expense I'd rather not have to take on....but I'd rather have a trolling motor that works well! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have to agree...fishing is healing. I'm not sick, but nothing relieves stress better for me than heading out after work and wetting a line for a few hours. My wife and I get out about 250 times a year...mostly between the times of 8pm and 10pm. We get skunked a lot, but being out there and casting your line, or bottom fishing waiting for a strike, or float fishing our favourite trib, or heading out on weekends in our boat, it's an amazing stress reliever. Get rid of the stress and the rest of your life just seems to fall in place. I hope that your condition improves so that you can get out to all the places you'd like to. In the meantime, keep hitting your local spots....and ask questions here on the board. We are always more than happy to help out when we can. Good luck!

Perseverance...that's the fun part. Now you'll get it about once a month....LOL Congrats to yourself and your wife.... Hoping the pregnancy is a pleasant one....for both your sakes....hehe.

Wow Forrest! I'd get to about step 3 and then take it to a marine mechanic....LOL. Great info....

GREAT BASS OPENER ON NIPISSING (pics)
ccmtcanada replied to lunkerbasshunter's topic in General Discussion
Congrats on a great opener! I've still yet to have a day on the water where more than 10 fish are boated....and I have a blast on those days...LOL. Next time I'm up in that general direction is in August. Our friends' annual cabin/camping trip is happening again in Magnetawan. We'll be taking the boat and fishing Ahmic Lake again. This time hopefully doing a little better than last year! -
Fantastic slide show! Nice work on that one Chris.

It's great to see you keeping it all in perspective! A few years ago, I remember work was stressful, money was tight, tension at home. Then a good friend of mine at the office told me his wife had just been diagnosed with cancer. Talk about a reality check.
