  1. A few pictures and a video at the bottom to click. summer2018 738.MOV
  2. That I was.... on the roof with a rag across my face running a hose for about 9 hours while Leah prepped our "go bags" if we decided to bug out and passed my supper up to me in a bag as I wouldn't come off the roof. Wind was 40 gusting 60 and from the time we spotted the new fire smoke bloom at Crab Lake it only took 2 hours to get 3+ miles down the shore even with 6 water bombers hammering it. In the days to follow I have had the waterslides pump running rotating rain heads to soak the trees and property down. At times on Sunday evening, July 8th, I was actually waving at water bomber captains from the roof and they were waving back!! That close... This fire had smoldered without being noticed for probably a week before the wind hit it just right and off it went so wildly that the smoke fumes were burning and rolling on top of the trees just like your airtight wood stove does. On the mornings that I have been able to get out and sneak in a flight I have called in 3 new fires within 18 miles of Town and there have been dozens spring up DAYS after lightning storms. We finally got about a 1/2 " of rain on Sunday and then a good 3" last night that almost sunk my 12'r and Leah's steel boat. Figured with that it was safe to make a run home but if the heat comes back that precip won't be enough to lift any fire ban or stop new fires from starting. Hope to be back up by Thursday night. Tourism sucks for sure, Lakeland is flying maybe 3 flights a week vs the usual 6 or more a day. All camps and Crown land West of Hwy 11 are off limits so they've had to cancel most bookings for their back lake camps and canoe shuttles to Lady E and Smoothwater PPark. Fishsevern !! Did you come up?? and where? I'm across from the park! Will add some pics when I get them downloaded.
  3. 1062 fire is out thanks to the quick action of area residents with fire pumps! That said, as of 2 hours ago the MNRF announced that the entire region is a Restricted Fire Zone. Absolutely no fires of any kind are allowed !
  4. Now a fire that just started on Island 1062. That location is just West of Lockhart's in the entrance to Kokoko Bay. I'd better get back up there asap and soak my own island down.
  5. There's about 10 fires in all.. probably more today with numerous direct strikes I'm told in the past hour or so, during the current lightning storm. The fire closest to town is in the NE Arm down past the Broom Islands on the South shore. All the fires are currently NOT under control, other than one that I know of. We came home yesterday, going back up tomorrow I hope. Also a fire on the South end of Cooper Lake and many more! We've been up there for just over 6 weeks. It's been 25 to 35C the entire time, with only two days of light showers and one thunderstorm down pour. It's a tinder box everywhere...
  6. That was the "second generation" Jumla that Pete used though Lew, mfg'd by Avery! The original mystery bait originated on a BOQ gathering when Rick and I were fishing on a finger dock across from the Picton Inn and after Rick caught a fish someone asked what bait he was using and the rush was on to find the illusive Jumla in Egyptian Princess colour. A bait that never existed...
  7. Leah's boat all spiffy'd up again in Egyptian Princess colour...
  8. I'm the same Lew with a new '18, got it in November. Haven't even bothered to read how it works and never will ! I'll keep the stickers in the glove box pristine for the next owner in a few years! That said I did install a back up camera on my new 24' enclosed trailer.
  9. I currently have 4 x 10,000 lb ratchet straps, 2 chains with bear traps on them diagonal across my hangars front door and 2 of my 3/8" cross cables up to keep it from blowing over sideways. Direct West wind on 100 feet of 16' wall + the roof and I think the only thing keeping it upright is the fact my aircraft insurance is valid for 3 more days! Gusts are 90 to 100kph currently..
  10. Temagami yesterday, to go with the 30+ inches of ice still at my dock!
  11. At 10" and still coming down... supposed to turn to freezing ran at 7am for 16 hours. Guess I'd better find the plow truck...
  12. Joe beat me to it, but yes send my distant relative a message. He already did a full piece / undercover set up on revealing Dodge dealerships in the GTA selling customers parts they don't need (because the service counter is on commission). New spark plugs etc on 3000km vehicles..
  13. PM'd you the email address for my local guy on Temag ..out of the North Bay office. Tell him the nut with the green/white airplane on Island 30 sent you...
  14. Those minnows are gonna be swiss cheese when you use the hole punch to mark each guys property. I hope you draw the straw for the single hole clip on yours Dan!!
  15. All I can tell you is that Lakeland Airways and I are keeping score on how many we can get each summer with our props or wings! Score is currently tied at one to one!
  16. Was I supposed to find something about the fire in that never ending page???
  17. That was only 14 years ago Emil, Summer of 2004 on our way back from the West Coast during our month long trip. A lot has happened in those 14 years to age me quicker than was fair !
  18. That is correct fisherman.. I meant to add Recreational vehicles are exempt. Another dumb law.. I can add the extra weight of a camper slide in to my pick up truck and then my 24' enclosed trailer behind me doesn't need an annual sticker. Without the camper in the box I do ! That was the law about 15 years back and beyond Shayne, it now reads you can tow ball to ball.. Now lets get back to this guy going fishing!! LOL
  19. No you do not need a D. ... You need an A restricted if your trailer exceeds 10,500 lbs in Ontario. Quebec is only 10,000lbs and then you need the A restricted and the literature I got with my enclosed trailer that is registered at 10,150 scared me good saying I required this at 10,000lbs. Almost thought I screwed myself ordering the wrong trailer, but thankfully Ontario reg is 10,500lbs. If you do have an A Restricted licence endorsement, that many need for their mega RV trailers, you CAN NOT double tow. It's nuts, but that's the law. Anyone with a G licence CAN double tow and that said, you may only tow double trailers with a "commercial" vehicle. So you can not do this with a car, van or SUV like a GMC suburban or similar. These are all "blue plated" vehicles and are not commercial. Any pick up truck is "black plated" and considered a commercial vehicle "truck" and why you have to also comply with the annual safety sticker nonsense on both truck and trailer if over 4500kg combined. They also apparently allow double tow behind motorhomes. I forget if my plate was even black on mine..
  20. AFAIK, Fushimi is now run by the municipality of Hearst.... as Ontario Parks closed the place years back. We went there every year .. for many years. Make damn sure you have a trailering cover on before you make the quest down that dusty road! Wonderful place.. 47 camp sites.
  21. Read your home policy and talk to your broker. Trailers are covered against claims arising of out ownership, use or operation or it's equipment.... "provided it's not attached or being towed by a vehicle subject to registration". At that point your vehicle insurance covers it, although I'm not sure about replacement if stolen. In both cases it could be liability only. My boat insurance covers my trailer for replacement value, so with that said I guess I should ask my broker about my new enclosed trailer as well. Only one with any value to worry about. Anything being carried / stored inside is insured as would your stuff as "personal belongings" when stored in the yard.
  22. Oh I'm supposed to be working on airplanes and have a few backlogged, but until I get my car (that Dad bought new) finished I can't fit anything in the shop. Hangar is a bit cold yet to work out there, but fortunately my boss is pretty easy to get along with... as long as I remember her Birthday, Valentines Day and a few other special days! LOL The car became my Therapy session and the bonus is I have something to keep after all the appointments are over! LOL It's come a LONG way in 2 years.
  23. Thanks Raf! Only 1800 or so hours into it now.... probably 600 left to go. Car was torn down until there wasn't a SINGLE bolt left in the body.
  24. No harm fella! Was just razing you. Nothing much airplane going on these days, still deep into "Therapy" !
  25. Thanks Dax! Was just going to say.. now of course everyone knows where I live. Thanks Cast Away! Lots of hard work is all. Was nothing but a rough field and a forest 25 years ago.
