Creation of more Conservation Officers.
AzuluSpookd replied to Harrison's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. OPP are able to enforce all fish and wildlife laws....but....that's why we have CO's -
I'm pretty sure that the Simcoe Country Forest's don't allow someone to just go and target shoot. You are allowed to hunt, but not allowed to just go and shoot. Either join a club or find some private land.

You must be thinkin salaries in the late 1980's to early 1990's...You're WAY off in your numbers...most cops..with court pay, shift premium are making close to 90k....base salary is almost 80k...OPP's usually last to negotiate and are generally one of the highest paid....much better benefits....firefighters...well...they are way up there and I mean way up there....especially with their schedules, they can actually work another job if they choose to. IMO....I think CO's should be paid just as much as those guys....they are trying to protect a resource and their enforcement numbers have steadily declined since 1992 whereas police forces have increased their numbers since that time. Doesnt make sense to me, but for less then 200 CO's in the entire province, they are doing what they can with what little they are given. -
No...No....No......YOU can't do that....YOU have special restrictions because you have a landing strip....you have to maintain that....no time for hunting for you

I've had my 90 HP 4 Stroke for four years now (2005) and I have had no issues with it. I find that it's not as quiet as the Yammy's, but I'm still very happy with it. As Fisherman says, I just do what he does every year and I haven't had any issues.

4" Spook - Another 24 on the GO - UPDATED PICS
AzuluSpookd replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
I love spooks! -
I'm pretty sure it's considered a weapon (like anything could be) but it's not considered a firearm...yet....certainly under the criminal code. There's a guy that just opened up a paintball shop in Midland and was shut down after a month....town by-laws...but it was mainly the new chief that is interpreting the CCC that reads "any projectile that comes out of a barrel" is a firearm...and that is where they got him...even though its just a family paintball adventure camp...I guess he's right... ...he can apply for an exemption...but I'm not sure he would get it...

You'll get em Brian!

Wow! That's a beauty, congrats!

....Happy Hunting to all .

Thanks man....I'm usually really good with my aim...it may have been because that was the first ever buck that I saw in person...who knows...but thanks for the congrats. Last year, on this gun I had tru glo sights on them...one broke off and I didn't replace them, so there's just the beeds on the top of this gun...I went shootin' just before my moose hunt, fired 6 slugs at 80 yards and bullseye on all 6. I just finished skinning it in the garage and there were two shots in it....one of them not so good I still have one more tag for my bow...at least that one has a scope on it!

Fishinfool....to answer your question....when I look to the left he's walking towards me....then he gets directly in front of me and continues walking, which means going away....to my right....I understand what your saying and it probably sounded as if he was walking directly away from the front of me, but that wasn't the case. Either way, as Shayne said...you live and learn. Last year's Doe was a perfect shot placement. Last year's moose was a perfect shot placement, even at 250 yards. This year, well...something went wrong. Could be excitement, who knows. Do I wish I could have placed that shot perfectly? Absolutely. Did I try to? Absolutely. I didn't but I was lucky enough to recover the deer. Thanks to all who congratulated me, it certainly was a great morning. One thing I do know, is after this year, I will be getting a deer gun, with a rifled barrel and a scope!!!!

Thanks rickster! Remember....I ran out of slugs

Well...certainly was in interesting morning! Got off work at 0500, checked the wind, perfect, decided on where I was going to set up. Went home, grabbed my gear and headed over to Wayne's. The walk in took a little longer than normal, as the leaves had dried out and I didn't want to spook anything. Set up underneath some overhanging pines, on the edge of a small field on top of a hardwood ridge. I was at this spot the day before and counted quite a few scrapes. I could start to see clearly about 0635 and did a few small grunts. About 0650 I saw some movement out of the corner of my eye and all of a sudden here comes a buck ...didn't really care how big or small he was, just knew it was a buck!! He was a good distance away, but moving away from me...so bang...he didn't move...looked at me...I'm thinking...huh?...bang...he starts running into bush, starting to go down the ridge..stops...looks at me again...bang...I've had to have hit him....I waited and I started walking over...blood...nice....I could still hear him in the bush...oh no...waited...started walking...I see him get up and go..this goes on for quite a bit, finally he's down at the bottom near the swamp still walking around....I get to within 20 yards and I can see him through the thicket........I then realize I have NO MORE SLUGS ...oh oh....I waited for two hours watching him when he finally expired....went over and was pleasantly surprised. I hike all the way back to the top and go and visit Wayne...he asked if it was me and I said, it sure was...however I heard alot more shots throughout the morning...he got this four wheeler and met me down there and we got that buck out...took a bit, but we got her out. Sat and chatted for a while, when I realized how tired I was getting from working all night! Said my many thanks to Wayne and told him I would be back next week with some nice venison for him and Leah...along with some wine. Thanks again Wayne!

Take a look at this website...they deal mostly with Rocky..... www.bigfootshoeclinic.com The guy is a little strange but really good to deal with! If you have an orthotic plan through work, this is the guy to go to! There's some good 1400 thinsulate, Cold Weather hunting boots that I've just ordered.... He'll even send you the foam inserts via fedex too!!!

AzuluSpookd replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
Thanks wayne, as soon as deer hunting is done I'm on it!! -
I'm in the same boat Brian...I worked nights last night and went out for a couple of hours this morning, heard a gun shot close by...saw a four wheeler going through the bush...I'm at work right now, leaving early to get a head start tommorow and am going to stay up all day. It's gonna be a beautiful day, sunny 10 k winds and cold, can't wait!
-
I was out again today too...hurt my back yesterday, which is really limiting how long I can sit at the moment...I was blown away this morning, when I heard 8 shots, yeah...8 shots...one after another, then a I heard 6 more, but in sets of 3's....somebody out there is hunting with something they shouldn't be...8 shots. It was a beautiful morning for sure, but I just couldn't last. Now I'm on nights right now and tommorow night, but if it's okay in the morning tommorow, I may head out for a couple of hours...we'll see... Thanks for the report.

Beautiful full moon,rain,wind, and hail
AzuluSpookd replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
All is well What a day. No deer, I'm bagged. I ended up getting soaked this morning, when the hail/snow/wind picked up and stayed out all day. I just sat in the hottub for an hour. No luck, but once that wind picked up, I didn't really think I had a chance. It sure didn't call for 45 mph gusts today!! Back at er again tommorow morn!! -
That's brutal.....better yet....camo your game cam up pretty good, maybe you'll get a pic of these nimrods. These are the reasons I wish there were as many MNR officers as there are police officers....OPP has almost 6000, then there's municipal on top of that....then there's the big ol 230 Conservation Officers in ALL of ontario. That is pathetic....even if it were to double or say 500, that would be awesome.

I finally did the hunter's safety ed course.
AzuluSpookd replied to wuchikubo's topic in General Discussion
Nope, I have the pheonix. Awesome. Crossbows aren't very quiet, compared to compounds. 30 yards is a great shot. They are unbelievably accurate. I'd do 40 if I had too, but I wouldn't go any further than 40 with any crossbow. Probably would with a compound. You lose a lot of speed after 30 yards with the smaller bolts for xbows, as opposed to the longer compound bolts. IMO -
Too bad about that Brian, better luck tommorow! Here's how my opening hunt went... Off work at 0500 hours, go home, get all my gear ready, start driving over to a beautiful piece of property, has a nice field, surround by hardwood bush and a nice hardwood ridge and a nice trail going through....might even be an airstrip close by Started driving and truck DIES Had to get it towed, thought it was transmission (again), but it turns out to be fuel pump. Went to sleep, got up at 2 and they told me it would be ready be 3:30, thinkin I could get an afternoon hunt in....waited there until 5:15...too late Start fresh tommorow morning

Thanks. I'm gonna readjust the one that I have.

Nice pics, when you enlarge that first pic, that is certainly a beauty buck! How far off the ground is your camera set up? I think I may be missing some pictures on mine because it may be a little too high....
