  1. Did well with Smallies when I went there a few years back.
  2. If only I were younger. Like a previous post mentioned. How many of us kick ourselves for not doing this when we were younger. What an opportunity!
  3. Sounds to me like the spring or other internal parts in the starter might be done. Don't do anything with it until you try a strong marine battery on it like the previous post indicated.
  4. Sounds like a dead battery. I'm not a mechanic, but this is what I would do. Hook up battery cables to a charged battery, connect positive end to main lead on starter then touch the other to the starter casing. It should push the starter wheel out if the starter is working correctly. Check all connections if the starter is working. Maybe the solinoid is gone????
  5. I think the joke is on all that frequent Timmies. There was a secret transaction many years back where our government actually purchased the Timmies company and are reaping the benefits through gold plated pensions. LOL Personally I just don't understand the love affair with Timmies. I will always try to avoid it like the plague. Wrong amounts, taxes and orders all the time. Terrible donuts also. I also don't understand how people can spend that kind of money everyday on Timmies. They must be making pretty good $$$$. The beast is driven by the consumer. However, the one thing that I know they do that is worthwhile, is send economically disadvantaged kids to amazing camp experiences every year.
  6. Thanks for the correction. Still close though when looking at the bigger picture :-)
  7. Darn! Even if it doesn't last?????
  8. Ontario Record Largemouth Bass came out of that lake. Unless someone wants to correct me.
  9. Went out with grace, no evident plastic surgery. Why did she always pick the bad boys anyway?
  10. Now you're getting technical. They told me at Jiffy to use cold weather grease. You probably used the right stuff if you haven't had any problems.
  11. A 50" muskie-I set that goal every year. Head back to Quinte for a spring trip and catch some of those odd fish that we don't get in the Kawarthas like Sheephead, silver/white bass and gar pike and anything else that is strange. Fish at least 5 times a week.
  12. Everyone gets a spring in their step around this time of the year, when a few warm ones tease us. I remember a few years back hooking up the boat and heading up to a buddies for opening trout in the Bancroft area. We got there on the Friday night and slept in a Volkswagon Westvalia, woke up to snow on the ground and thought we would wait it out. Well, the snow didn't stop until there was about 6" on the road. We decided to pack up and head home, but probably should have stayed. It was the worst white knuckle drive I ever had, trying to tow the boat with a Cutlass on unplowed roads, while my buddy followed in his Westvalia. We were both all over the roads until we hit the Apsley area and things had turned to rain. This Canadian weather gets you when you least expect it! That's what makes this a great country :-)
  13. It's so easy to do it yourself once you have the part. You won't need a repair shop to change it. Make sure you use the right grease in the main gear if you replace that grease. You can always speak with someone right at Jiffy, they were more than willing to discuss things with me when I was working on it, and yes the woman that answers the phones was very knowledgeable.
  14. I got the clutch assembly/gear through the Home Hardware in Fenelon Falls. But I remember having to contact Jiffy in the States, then they contacted the Canadian distributor (Mississauga) and then it went to my local store. Jiffy quotes a price of around $50, but it is well over $100 once it gets to you. They will not ship to you from Jiffy. Good Luck
  15. Can't beat them in my books. They have been around for a long time for a reason.
  16. Hope so! I couldn't get on when I just tried. It's a shame what happened there.
  17. I agree with Sinclair.
  18. They carry good up to date product, just not a huge selection like BPS. Nice people too!
  19. And how many others are getting through. That's just scarey!!!!!
  20. I was hoping that I might get some help from fellow OFNers. My 21 year-old son is going to be starting an apprenticeship in the Maple area shortly and it will be basically his first time living away from home. He needs to find a place to live for $450-$550/month that includes parking and utilities. Please PM me if you know of any places or can offer any suggestions on where to look. Thanks Jimmer
  21. Does this mean that there are stipers in Lake O?
  22. The future is very uncertain. My wife and I always scrimped due to low wages and going to college at a later age. We did however, find a way to pay off our mortgage in our early 50's, then thinking that we could retire or semi-retire early, before we reached 60. That has probably all changed now and we're not even sure if we will be able to retire at 65. Unless of course we decide to sell our home and use that to subsidize our retirement and go live in a trailer. Go figure, worked hard all these years to be debt free, but then not be able to keep up with the normal monthly bills. Something has to give. We're sure not getting raises to keep up with the cost of living. So, who ever mentioned in a previous post to make sure to choose the right career, was bang on. You would need a good paying job that will be guaranteed for years to come and includes benefits and a good pension. Funny, sounds like a politician's job!
  23. Here in Ontario it's a race between the oil companies and Hydro to see who can break us first! It all adds up and will eventually cut into my ability to go fishing as much as I do. That's bad for a fishing addict!
  24. Wishin' I was fishin'
  25. At least they're a littler easier to watch now. Go Leafs Go! Us die hards will always hang in there, no matter what others say. I like the post that mentions most bashers as being Red Wing or Penguin fans. So true!
