  1. Is there anywhere in Ontario that allows 3 lakers? I don't know of anywhere around the kawarthas that allows more than two. Not only was he caught, he is lying by saying it was a mistake. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing. This should be a lesson to all poachers that you will eventually be caught if you're breaking the fishing regs! Well, I guess I'm off to catch my daily limit of 8 bass. LOL
  2. I'm the opposite of you Harrison. I avoid Buckhorn during the Emerald Island Tourney. I can catch some during pre-fish, but can't catch a break during the tourney. Much more luck on Chemong! I always love how everyone begs for Pigeon to be opened for that tourney. It's just the time of year and that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. I do think that those 7 + lbers that were caught a few years back came out of Buckhorn.
  3. What's normal???? Example: Check out some of the weigh-ins at a bass tournament. Top team has 21 lbs and the last place team is skunked. Maybe the bottom ten have weighed in one or two bass. The next tournament might be completely different and those guys on the bottom are now the top ones. Are you fishing a kawartha lake or a northern little lake that no one fishes? I've had a 25 fish 4 hour excursion, then lucky to catch one the next day. I have fished Paudash lake and caught 10" fish all day long, I don't consider that a highly successful day, but it's sure fun if you have something grabbing at the end of your line. I agree that if I'm catching 2-3 fish every hour, I'm having a good day.
  4. I agree with you about the structure and it being a more interesting lake to fish Jer. I just can't catch fish out of it anymore :-(. It used to be one of my favourite destinations.
  5. Concentrate on any weedbeds you can find, the thicker the better. Fish the outsides first then move into the pockets in the weeds. You should get walleye and bass doing this. You can use jigs or texas rigs for this application. Let me know if you find a concentration of Crappie, they tend to disappear in the summer. Bass are liking the wacky rigs fished slow around the weedbeds. Muskie are around the weeds or suspended out over the deeper water. Try spinner baits over the weeds or larger cranks over deeper water. Have also been seeing a lot in shallow around the pads. Buckhorn is my least favourite of the three.
  6. Camp Can Aqua has some weekly spots, but a little higher at $820. The kids we send there love it and always return the next year. One of my Board members attended throughout her childhood and she says it changed her life. I attended the funeral of the owner last year and I was amazed at the hundreds of people that paid tribute to Louis. Many were kids that have attended over the years that it has operated. I believe they will continue to use Louis' philosophy as they move forward. Check it out on the web for all the activities that they provided. They developed a recording artist out of one of the campers, many successful business people and I believe the guy that is managing the camp now was a lifelong camper.
  7. I'm quite worried that we will start hearing of more boat accidents with the way some individuals are operating their boats. I have been trying to avoid the water on the weekends on Pigeon just for this reason. Boaters are not giving each other enough room and that's during the day. It seems I encounter one of these boaters every weekend if I'm out on the water, with a couple of close calls. Add in darkness and the problem can be worse if there are no lights.
  8. It might even depend on how many times you plan to go fishing and where you are going. Is there a rental option? Sometimes it's just better to rent if it's only a couple of times a year. I agree that 12 footers are okay for light people and smaller bodies of water, but get grown men in one and then some wind and you are asking for a bath.
  9. If all this doesn't scare him off, skdds will be a great muskie angler LOL.
  10. They aren't actually tournament pros Jer. They can afford to buy a big bass boat and truck to tow it, then call themselves tournament pros! Those things can be killing machines in an inexperienced operator's hands. They go to marina buy the boat, stick it in the water, and off they go without any training. It happens to me weekly out on Pigeon and it's so dangerous. However, thank God for the Boaters Card. They know what they're doing!
  11. I have a Makita cordless that I just can't bring myself to spending $60 on a replacement battery, so it sits there doing nothing. Anyone want it?
  12. If you're going to be using those larger muskie lures. Make sure you have the proper tackle to land and then release the fish. They can make a mess of you pretty quickly if you get those hooks stuck into you with the fish still on. I always suggest to look for weedbeds to start for either muskie or walleye and start with the deep edge. The west side of big island is a good place to start as a previous poster indicated. Mid lake out from gannons narrows is also good.
  13. I was expecting a true philosophical answer to this question! LOL I should have know better.
  14. I think you will always find someone to buy at whatever price you set them at. The one thing I found about kijiji is that people are expecting to get the same amount the motor sold for when it was new (ie. 1976 6hp $500). Just doesn't make sense to me. I had bought a 1986 johnson from a marina on the French for $600 in the late 90's and felt that steep, but best deal I could find at the time. Your motor is 20 years old, however, that size used motor is in demand. I think the 15hp is reasonably priced and should sell quickly. Just my thoughts.
  15. Better bass fishing in the lakes near there that you don't have to pay to get into. That's my opinion.
  16. I bought my system at Robinson Marine just north of Lindsay. They are on Hwy #35. I'm sure most marinas or boat supply companies can order this for you.
  17. The wilderness makes it all worthwhile! Awesome pictures.
  18. This is the same system I used and is by far the best for smaller boats.
  19. Why wouldn't it be a good career move? They usually start at a huge salary and have all the equipment a biologist could need. How many private opportunities are there out in that field?
  20. Probably a little far for parking and we have been asked by a number of people about house sitting. It scares the heck out of me. LOL
  21. I am leaving the area, it's going to be crazy. I live off of Pigeon Lake Rd. and I feel it's a good decision to just go somewhere else. It will be interesting to hear the post concert comments.
  22. I remember Keith as a volunteer of mine about 9 years ago. He is a real stand up guy, someone who epitimizes what a volunteer and community member should be. I have always remember him over the years as one of the best volunteers that I ever had the pleasure of working with. He wasn't a police officer at the time, but I knew he would make a great one eventually. I hear that Keith is going to be okay, but if his buddy on here can pass on our best wishes, that would be great. Get well fast Keith! Jim I just can't understand where a person's mind is at when he just opens fire on someone he doesn't know, cop or not!
  23. someone was selling a pair on another forum for $150 or best offer. I can look for the details if you are interested.
  24. They are going to have shuttles from Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls and Lindsay to and from the concert, so you can look for lodging in those towns as well.
  25. Do yourself a huge favour. Bring a fish finder. If you have one that's not portable, make it so. The maps are okay, but those rocks come up pretty fast and having your eyes on the fishfinder can save a prop or lower unit.
