  1. I've been having a fun time this last little while researching possible destinations for a trip in 2013. Long story short I have a very old friend who's been very sick for some time now but is miraculously getting better. A while back he approached me about a fishing trip in 2013. He's had an epiphany of sorts and wants to do something special next year. Here's the criteria: 1.Must be an outpost camp, he's not interested in lodges. 2.Multi species is important with a real shot at trophy fish. 3.Cost under $4000 for at least a week, preferably 8 or 9 days. After much research we're pencilled in at Kasba Lake's Kazan River outpost for a 9 day trip in early August. http://www.kasba.com/cms.asp?wpID=11 Miles and miles of maybe the best dry fly grayling fishing in the world, big pike and big lakers. What's interesting to me is Ennadai lake, a 13km run down the Kazan river from the outpost camp. 80km's long and still very much an unknown and untouched commodity. As mentioned we're pencilled in for that date and are about to send in a deposit so in fact we're not "fully" committed yet. Before we do does anyone out there have any other interesting suggestions that meet the same criteria? It's very possible I could have missed something while researching this.
  2. That is so unbelievably cool! The idea of jigging for those giant fish is definitely something I want to experience. Well done!
  3. Fantastic, glad to see you succeeded in your quest!
  4. Nice to see the Sage went to a good home. Excellent work!
  5. Nah not really. I know Harold (knuguy), he's just playing around. Today was stellar, not huge numbers but a bunch of real quality fish that fought like they were possessed. Was also glad to finally drag Spiel out of the rod shop for a day, Lord knows the man needed a break. I think I killed him though, he was in knots the entire drive home.
  6. The stars are aligning, today will be a special one on the rivers.

  7. Those splake are gorgeous (and the musky aint bad either )
  8. Was looking for you bud, you were nowhere to be seen. Too bad. I don't know. I've been there several times and consider Eddie a friend and thought it was fairly accurate. It's not the ritz, but it's a comfortable camp with world class fishing and reasonable rates. Only thing is...watching the show it was obvious to me precisely where they were fishing. A good spot no doubt and considering the horrible weather conditions they did okay. But...I believe they could have and should have done much better.
  9. Awesome, I'll be there with Joanne.
  10. I didn't miss thing, trust me on that. "The US side"? The U.S. side of what? Obviously you're referring to Erie and Ontario's south shore. Steelheading doesn't revolve around that area, there's plenty more regions that offer much more. In general, across the entire great lakes the runs of fish and the amount of opprtunities that are available have never been better. I think perhaps you need to broaden your horizons.
  11. I'd like to buy a set myself. Still not exactly cheap, but Sale in Burlington had the suits marked down from $900 to $600 when I was last in there.
  12. I'd be interested but couldn't do it on a Tuesday. Thurs, Fri or Sat would work for me. Also may I suggest something in December?
  13. Here's a couple more, The Last Pool by Howard T. Walden 2nd. A great piece of angling literature that has very much flown under the radar imo. For the paddlers, Distant Fires by Scott Anderson is great. It recounts an epic journey that started at Superior and ended at Hudsons Bay descending the Gods river in Manitoba. Canoe Country Wilderness by William Rom is also pretty good. It details a lifetime of tripping in Quetico and several other far northern routes. Pretty much anything by Jack Sampson as well. Far and away my favoutie outddor writer of all time.
  14. Beautiful fish for sure, wow! I vote for renaming that fish. A cross between Musky and Pike should be called Mike.
  15. Great trip Rob, that huge fish was just a bonus!
  16. Someone (bless his heart) just gave me a first edition copy of this book published in 1943. I loved it, couldn't stop reading it. Anyone who loves Algonquin Park would enjoy it. I found it especially interesting because their route up the Crow river from the junction of White Partridge Creek is one I've done several times myself. From what I can gather things are still very much the same now as they were all those years ago. As a young teenager I devoured anything and everything that Calvin Rutstrom wrote. His writings had a big influence on me.
  17. Nice work! You need a break though, I'm thinking Thursday.
