  1. I cant figure out how to PM you, but I don't want to post the info here!
  2. Dogs are definitely some of the most amazing animals on the planet, alot smarter than most of us give them credit for!
  3. The poor guy is going to try and catch a fish for sport, don't be so hard on him, if there were no Tuna left, there would be no charters to catch them, I believe that most people who catch these tuna for sport release them after the fight anyways! I agree whole heartedly that something must be done to lessen the commercial side of things don't get me wrong. As for how the storm will affect the fishing, I have no idea, I cant imagine it would turn them on though, but that is a lot of money to risk for a mediocre day!
  4. Congrats on the Musky, well done.
  5. I am not a great Walleye expert, but I know a little bit, During mid-day, look in deeper water, 8-20 feet, targeting thick weeds with bucktail jigs, other weedless presentations etc. At night they move in very shallow to feed, I have heard of them going into less than 1' of water!, but smaller bays and closer to shore for sure, and they dont hang so deep in the weeds at night either, I have done well in the past using minnows on Lindy rigs fishing from shore with a light on the tip of my rod to see the slightest strike. I hope this helps somewhat! Daryl
  6. I think people just need excuses as to why they didn't catch anything! I know I do!!!!
  7. That is amazing, what an absolute monster. Man do I ever need to get my butt in gear and get out there, I have a cousin who lives in Welland, and has recently gotten into fishing!
  8. Thats pretty crazy man, I would have been thinking about cutting those lines and heading in asap with that wind picking up like that!
  9. Congrats to him, we have a Sail opening near me in the shwa soon, I am wondering how it will compare to Bass Pro for selection and price, I have never been to one!
  10. Baitcasting can be a little to get used to, but it is far better for heavier applications, and given the heavy weight of most muskie lures you should not have much of an issue with birds-nests as long as you keep the brakes tight on it, and hey if you are trolling you will have no issues at all, just let the line out behind the boat!
  11. Thanks for the detailed report, I was intrigued by this line, as I have to fill a spool on a 4000 spirex for some upcoming pier fishing, the coiling line makes me nervous of some serious line twist issues using spoons.... maybe I will just throw some mono on there, its cheaper anyways! D
  12. Welcome aboard, you will find the people here are great, very knowledgeable and willing to help a fellow angler. Just don't mention salmon and marshmallows in the same sentence and you should do just fine! BTW nice pics, I like the action shot! Daryl
  13. Myself and a friend of mine decided to hit up the bog today to search for some bass and possibly a musky if one was around. We headed out at about 11am and fished for a few hours spread over 4 spots with shore access, as my boat has a minor mechanical difficulties as of late (lower unit oil leaking out around the prop shaft ). The first spot that we hit yielded the only fish of the day, a decent Largemouth of about 3 pounds, that came on a live target frog. I threw the frog over some reeds and across about 60 feet of slop into the edge of the open water, just as I was thinking "I wonder what I am gonna do if I get a bite" this guy hit. I managed to get him in somehow, dragging him through the weeds and pulling in about 5 pounds of slop with him. Time for a quick photo and release to catch him when he gains a few pounds. We pounded the water with everything from frog imitations to swim-baits to soft plastics to no avail, moving to a few different spots didn't seem to help a whole lot. At the second spot, no fish to speak of, but my buddy had a bit of a surprise catch, a super-mean bullfrog that had a death grip on his creature bait, the hook never went in him, but he just would not let go of that thing until I pried open his mouth with a pair of needle nosed pliers. The third spot, using a perch colored spinner-bait, I had a really good hit, the fish turned with the lure and then it came out, what a piss-off! By the way that it hit and reacted to the pressure and did a couple of head-shakes, it felt like a musky, but I never did see it, only a big swirl when it turned, so it is hard to say for sure. Another half hour at the spot brought no hits, so we hit up the fourth spot, and you guessed it, nothing going on, I realize that we were fishing at the wrong time of day, but I figured that we would have a little more action than this! All in all a pretty slow day today, but at least I didn't get skunked, I felt kind of bad for my buddy, this is twice in a row now coming up empty handed! Daryl
  14. Nice fish, I miss hitting up Haliburton bass!
  15. x 2 I have always wanted to fish the Larry you might just catch a new world record !!!
  16. Well played, I like that quick response. I have a tendency to say things that get me in trouble with the wife too, but don't worry, it usually blows over after a while! Also it works out that if the wife is mad at me and wants me to get away from her I have plenty of time to go fishing! Daryl
  17. My wife bought me a kit from some place, and I havent tried them, I always thought the rig looked kind of silly with the hook way out front. With all of these comments I might just have to give them a shot!
  18. I read an article from In-Fisherman recently that was written by one of the top tournament anglers on Erie. He said that on Erie in the summer up to 100% of the smallies diet is gobies. I would try a drop shot with a dark green goby imitating soft plastic like a slammer or something similar. You mentioned you got a few on pumpkinseed coloured grubs, which supports this theory! Good luck! Daryl
  19. For Bass either 10 or 20 will do just fine, I use 20 usually on a medium action rod with my 2500 series reel. I would tell your friend to invest in a heavier duty rig for the Musky, maybe a solid baitcasting rig and go with at least 50lb test and leaders. You don't want to mess around too much with light gear. I use a heavy action Shimano Beastmaster rod and a big Calcutta reel and it works well. Musky can be a fragile fish and you want to get them in as fast as possible and avoid long fights on light gear. Daryl
  20. I dont mind the Liles trade, although it is a little suspicious that they basically gave him away for next to nothing. I am not too big on the draft picks that they made, Biggs seems like another 3rd liner, the leafs have about 3 or 4 3rd lines now! but I guess that deep in the draft there is not to much left to pick from, I just expected them to pick someone with a little more offensive upside. Burke seems to have a real bias towards US players, I dont know if it is good or bad, but it just seems like the blue and white should add some stars and stripes to their jerseys!
  21. Is dynamite illegal these days? that would be the funnest way to split those rocks! as long as you dont end up like Wille Coyote!!!
  22. Looks like a decent day, at least you got out and got some fish! I was digging in dirt and clay all day, you had a better day than I had, even with the bulge in the tire!
