  1. There are many lakes you can access from Long Lake. The trip to StopLog Lake has a portage that takes you by a beautiful waterfall, and has a great cliff for jumping / swimming. That was a trip I did 38 years ago.
  2. Give 'em a call at Silent Lake PP at 613-339-2807. If you are looking for remote camping, try Algonquin Park. Here is a message board all about Algonquin. There are lots of trip reports there for your enjoyment. Especially look for reports from Marcus and Salvelinus. Barbara hangs out there too.
  3. Ya. Roy, what would boiling water do? I think you do that if you want to drink it, not put it in your batteries. As for adding bleach, wouldn't that tend to neutralize the acid electrolyte necessary for the battery to work? I would stick with the distilled water, no worries.
  4. Sure thing, Boss. I've got some experience on Opeongo for lakers, mostly in the north arm. Try the trench in the bay near Hailstorm creek, and also the north shore near the portage to Proulx. You will need to fish 20-40 ft down for the lakers. I don't usually target the sm bass, but I understand that there's plenty. It's a very beautiful place - I hope you enjoy your trip, fish or no. Good Luck.
  5. Thanks for the pictures and report, JoAnne. Always a pleasure to read em.
  6. Hmmmm, mackeral. Try them wrapped in foil with salt, pepper and lemon in the cavity. The best fish I have ever eaten. They went nuts on a small red devil spoon as I recall.
  7. Me 2, access denied several times.
  8. Send a PM to Mr. O'Banion. He has contacts with kids' groups that organize derbies for the little ones.
  9. I got a brand new FishEasy 245DS for the best price possible ( free! ) a few months ago. The only downside was the mount for the transducer, as the unit was shipped with the transom mount bracket. I debated over whether to buy a high speed mount for $50 or so, make one with scrap lumber or tubing, or just buy the suction cup for $9.95. I gave the cup a try on my fly in trip last month. The transducer fell off once, but I wasn't worried about it as it came with a lanyard that I tied to the transom. Me bruvvah uses a cup mount and I've never seen his xducer fall off. As far as operation of the sonar goes, it was a no brainer. We easily marked bottom structure and fish in 100 fow.
  10. Congratulations to you and your brand new fambly! The whole creating life thingy is a wonder, fer sure.

    Help

What's wierd is that it is like totally weird. There is a nother site that I visit with plenty o pictures, and no matter what I do, I can't get those pictures to load. Can't figger. Let me know what you learn.
  14. I gots the same skin I always had. Pale, pasty, and way too much of it.
  15. No live bait in Algonquin. I understand that can be defined as 'no live baitfish' in Algo, so woims is ok. I really hope you check the regs first. You can always call the MNR or Algo Outfitters, and I hope you do.
  16. Someone besides Beans 'Payin' it forward'. Goes around, comes around. Very nice, Beans.
  17. The reaction to this guy has been phenomenal, right from the first phrase he sang. Great to see Simon Cowell slack-jawed. I think I will have to see 'Tosca', Jack Puccini's #2 show when it is staged this winter in Toronto. I will have Mr. Potts to thank.

    ahoy!

Congratulations, Lucid. I have to wonder about the wisdom of your other decision tho. Why would anyone choose to spend Christmas and Easter and Hannukah for that matter with someone with a psyche as twisted as Snag's? She must be a very special gal. Congratulations again.
  20. Carpe Diem, you can catch perch very nicely with small tubes on small jigs. These would be 1/8 or 1/16 oz weights molded around hooks onto which you skewer and impale a coloured skirted tube of rubbery plastic (THE SCREAMING THE SCREAMING I CAN"T STAND THE SCREAMING). Other hard minnow shaped jigs will work for perch too.
  21. I have sung with Michael Schade and Russell Braun, and this dude rocks. Incredible power and line. Richard, just post the whole thing already. Carpe Diem? I love bitter opera folks.
  22. That kid's a natural. Thanks.
  23. Note the shoreline, looks untouched for the most part. That is extremely rare in that part of the province, and beautiful too.
