Some thoughts: I remember a river catching on fire in downtown Cleveland in the 60s or 70s. We used to paint with leaded paint and inhale leaded gas fumes. Cars were pigs not long ago. 8 cylinders with no pollution controls . Used to stink. can hardly smell a car now I understand most of the plastics we put in our blue boxes don’t get recycled. Some get shipped away to other countries. Need to make less and reduce ridiculous packaging Every time you fill your gas tank -say 70 litres, that’s over 100 lb of carbon that will go into the air. Our federal candidates are zigzagging across the country every day in their jets for the next month. And then marching today. I guess we’re making progress. That Greta Kid is impressive. Although dramatic. I understand some young people are disillusioned about their future. Not even wanting to bring children into this world. A bit over the top.

Not sure what to think of all this. Most experts agree that human activity is a major driver of climate change. Some say it’s mainly a natural cycle. What to do? Should our society make radical changes in how we do things? Canada contributes 3% of the world’s greenhouse gasses. If we did would it improve things? My concern is for future generations. I’ll be long dead when it hits the fan- if it does. I fear my grandkids will say of us baby boomers: “You polluted the earth, you did nothing to slow climate change and you left us with huge government debts that weren’t there when governments ran balanced budgets.” I’d be upset too. Just sayin.

Was wondering about the Stoney Lake accident as well. Have any details of it been released?

I’d like to know what defines “careless operation of a vessel”. She was apparently going 17 k/hr. with lights on. Where is the line? 10k/hr? I see boats fly by at night here on Pigeon with no lights on all the time. My neighbor goes out after dark trolling for eyes. No lights. Trolls close to shore, fortunately. Scares the crap out of me.

Lucky to catch this girl on my go to $3 bucktail last evening.

Most walleye are near the bottom. Near rocks or weedbeds. They seem to prefer a wider wobble. Like you get with advertised walleye crankbaits. In the fall fish tend to be deeper. Get what ever you use near the bottom. Use a bottom bouncer to get down if you need to. Try different speeds. 1-2 mph trolling usually. But I’ve caught them at faster speeds. Dawn/dusk is best. Even better just before a storm.

‘‘Tis almost the Season. Fuel stabilizer acticle

The concern is the myths and misleading claims by the manufacturer. Independent testing under controlled conditions by a lab not paid by any manufacturer is what is best. Otherwise you’re at the mercy of myths and slick advertising. -
Don’t know how to insert the article , probably been posted before google Boatingmag.com fuel stabilizers

Stupid crazy here on north Pigeon especially long weekends, then regular weekends mainly between noon- dinner time. Midweek in summers pretty quiet. Dead midweek in June and after Labour Day. Several guys speeding by in the dark without lights on last night. People never learn.

I stand to be corrected. Did a google search. You are right. Not sure where I heard the shallow thing ?

Nice pic, Lew. I hear they can’t dive too deep. Their feathers repel water. Cormorants, on the other hand, can dive deep. You see them sitting and drying their feathers. I may be seeing less of them here in Pigeon. Are hunters taking them out? Love loons. Cormorants not so much.

Surface temp this morning 69. This evening 72. Fishing was tough today. Had a young loon hang out next to the boat for about 5 min. Checked me out. Swam under and checked again. No fear. Didn’t reach for phone/camera in case he spooked. Great experience.

Thanks for the report. Most of my Muskies come accidentally jigging. They’ll eat anything. Not fussy.

Friend of mine looking at buying a new one on sale now. I’m pretty sure Hull is welded. Throwing in lots of upgrades. Including 115 Merc 4st. $40k. How are their welded hulls? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Peter.

Amazing. So it’s only a trolling thing on Erie? I hear they come in like logs Do they run in suspended schools or are they scattered on the bottom? Can you jig for them? ErieDearies? -
Runs perfect, Hutch. New pedal seems more robust Now wishing I had a hand held remote and more importantly the anchor feature. Some new players in the trolling motor market now. I’ll wait and see what happens next year or 2. I might survive till then. ?

Thanks Dan. Sobering information. I think I’ll pass on a bike with pistons. My friend is a paramedic. They call them donor cycles ?

Good shootin. In the weeds still?

At 60 I’ve seriously thought of getting a bike too for the first time. Just for country riding in fair weather. Too many have told me it’s too dangerous. Especially at my age for the first time. I ride a tandem bicycle with my wife all the time and am fit and active. But it’s the other guy.......?

Today I find 2 dead skis floating to shore. Approximately a 40 and a 36 inches. 1 hr apart. Not decomposed. Looked normal. Likely from foul hooking or poor landing and handling. Hopefully not a disease. Need to handle these guys with care. Especially in warm water. Quick release Happened to me last week. Caught one jigging for eyes. 10 lb braid line. No steel leader. Just 12 lb fluorocarbon leader. No Muskie net. Took too long to land. Had the jig deep but got it out no problem. She thrashed and I dropped her in the boat. Live release after tail hold. Swam off but stayed on the surface for quite a while. Hope she survived. I should always have a Muskie net on board.

That’s a whopper anyway

Glad to see the OPP fly by my cottage every long weekend doing their rounds. Maybe keeps the idiots on their toes. A bit. Didn’t know they have PWC.
