  1. Has anybody ever had to replace their Clutch Dog before? Been doing some research and have a horrible feeling this could be my problem. Worn clutch dog and worn gears means big money and my wallets already worn out. Previous owner said it would occasionally slip out of forward but suggested it was just more of a shifter tension kind of thing, he'd just hold the shifter forward with a bungee cord. I'm getting that uneasy I've just been screwed feeling.
  2. It's a 25 HP Johnson Seahorse. A sticker under the engine cover says 1977, although for some reason I thought the motor was a 74.
  3. That'a a god idea about trying it with the muffs on. I'd at least be able to see whats going on if anything. I'll have to pick up a set/pair.
  4. Thanks GCD. When I move the shift lever the selector on the motor moves moves into either neutral, reverse, or forward. Can even feel a slight click as it shifts. Also when the motor is in neutral I can turn the prop assembly by hand. When I put it in Forward or Reverse I can't (Naturally ther motor is off while I'm trying this). The shear pin , if thats what I'm looking at, looks fine. I dunno.
  5. Well launched the new boat old boat yesterday for the second time and found that while the motor now starts and seems to run great it won't engage in gear, either first or reverse. I adjusted the tension in the cable and it makes no difference. I'm guessing it's something enternal but would love some advice if anybody has any. Or if anybody knows a reasonable place that does boat motor work in the Peterborough area. Anyways, packed the boat back on the trailer and wandered/waded across some new shoreline. Managed a small musky (maybe 32ish) in a new spot, It's been so long since I caught one I was expecting it be a 40 before I got to see it. Easy realse. So got to try out some new gear and get that first one out of the way before noon, good start to the season if it wasn't for the motor trouble. Anybody have any thoughts on the motor? It's a console type boat with the shifter/starter/steering anyway from the motor just to clarify. Thanks, Rossco
  6. I love chucking a spinnerbait around. Might not be the number one lure as far as productivity goes but I love it anyways.
  7. He's pulling your leg about the Tarpon and I've never heard of anybody catching musky there.
  8. I'm guessing using the closed bow of a 14 foot fibreglass (in my case) might be a bit tippy as your standing basically as high as possible. I was thinking of slapping some grip tape up there, maybe removing half the windshield or something.
  9. In the last week I phoned both Van and Truck world in Peterborough and Eastons on the 115. I think prices were comparable. I think the hitch was slightly cheaper at Eastons but the wiring harness slightly more expensive. I think installation was comparable at both. I opted to go with Van and Truck world in Peterborough and ended paying 350 including tax for a class 3 hitch, reciever and wiring harness installed. The ball was an extra 10 bucks. Could of saved about 70 bucks if I installed it myself but I was pushed for time.
  10. Do we get 5 different rods too? Or one magic rod rod that works for any lure? Anyways.. 1) 9 inch Suick (perch) 2) Big black and silver bucktail with Big white grub 3) White Spinnerbait 3/8 to 1/2 ounce 4) Smaller deep diving Rappla 5) Hook, a few weights, bobber and minnow
  11. In addition to the stuff you guys mentioned I like to have a copy of the regs on hand although I often forget them. I really like to have zippered pockets when fishing too, saved losing my keys/wallet more than once.
  12. I'm hoping to be on the water by 7. It's like being a kid and waiting for Christmas, It can't come soon enough.
  13. Some of those carp recipes look pretty tasty. I may give it a go this year. If I do I'll be sure to let you know.
  14. Don't want to hijack the thread but any opinions on the Quantum Tommy Biffle 7'6 flipping sticks? Think I'm on the way out the door to grab one.
  15. Allright, thanks guys, found the switch. Half way up the left side. It works too.
  16. Hi, I'm hoping to tap into the wealth that is the OFC community. I just got my first boat, an old fibreglass 14 footer (Peterborough Boat) and I've got a few questions. At least I'm sure I'll have more than a few questions but I'll start with this one. The boat is equiped with an Attwood v625 bilge pump. Is this thing automatic? I can see it's hooked up to an outlet hose and into the wiring but I don't see an on/off switch anywhere. I've got another question but I've got to pick up the wife. Back in a second. Thanks for any input. Rossco
  17. Palomar for mono, braid and everything else. One of my goals for this season is to learn a few more knots.
  18. You can either buy a bait needle or bend a hook to make one. Bait the hair rig with the corn. Heres a link to the hair rig. http://www.pleasurefishing.com/html/hairrigs.htm Alot of guys chum the water with various groundbait mixes. Maybe someone will share their secret or not so secret recipe with us. I wouldn't mind knowing a good one or two myself. PS. I should mention I know nothing about catching catfish really, I was talking about Carp techniques.
  19. I have not done alot of carp fishing but I have had success using what they call a hair rig and corn. There's a lot of guys who are way more knowledgable than me on this board/topic and I'm sure they will chime in. Welcome to the board. I'll see if I can find a link to tying a hair rig.
  20. I hate that safety first crap... It's just getting stupid. If I don't want want to wear a bicycle helmet that should be my perogative. If I want to have a beer in my canoe that's my business. If I'm drunk and endangering others or would be rescuers well then that's a different story. I'm just getting sick of meddlesome laws that are designed to protect us from ourselves. I mean; why not take it a step further? No swimming after drinking. How about no alcohol within 50 metres of the waters edge? Think how safe we'd all be!! Wouldn't it be great to be so safe?! Where does it end? It's all just so idiotic.
  21. Very cool report. Makes me wish I'd tried for Brookies while I was living in Toronto.
  22. Nice report and well done. Those Toronto area pike have eluded me for years. I second that most unorthodox pike hold sentiment; almost looks like some kind of magic trick, like you're levitating it or something. Congrats.
  23. Nice report CC. I have yet to see one up my way this year yet. I've never tried Carping at night. Is it typically a better bite?
  24. I pinched the barbs down on my lucky 9 inch Suick last year and figure I might pinch down them on my bucktails this year too. I figure I will probably leave my big musky spinnerbaits alone as the single hook is easier/safer to handle and remove anyway.
  25. Shore fishing the Otonabee. No Rock Bass category?
