  1. Nice snapper . I caught this one at Wildwood on a deep diving crankbait. If you can grab them between the tail and one of the rear legs they can't reach to bite you. Doesn't mean that they won't continue to try to take one of your fingers though.
  2. Congrats Victor, this could be the best WGSF report so far this year.
  3. Great report and pics, and congrats on the anniversary. I remember when my Sportspal looked that new. How long have you had that one?
  4. I depends on what you're trying to imitate. In the Grand river around here pumpkinseed seems to match the native crayfish.
  5. Mepps Musky Killer. I tried some of the larger ones but I don't like double trebles, and I couldn't make them go fast enough for my liking. They're cheap, they're durable and they go 100mph. When I need to go faster I use the Giant Killer with the willow blade.
  6. Great story lew, even without pics. I dream of fishing like that. My musky dates are usually planned 2 weeks ahead, so I really don't know exactly where I'm going, till I see the weather the night before. If I could get up and fish musky every day, I'd gladly take a skunking 8 out of 10 times.
  7. No MCI for me M&S. What did Groucho say, "wouldn't want to be in any club that would have me as a member".
  8. I use the Abu C4 because of the high ratio, 6.3 to 1. It's great for bulging the surface with bucktails. I have caught musky up to 48" on it without a problem. I don't fish for musky 100 times a year though, but I've had the reel since 2001.
  9. Well done guys, looks like fun on the water.
  10. Good one. You two might put the boys out of business.
  11. Great, I'm on 3-11 shift again, so I missed out. Hoping to see a report
  12. Check the regs, if I remember correctly those restrictions don't apply in the park stretch of the river, only above and below it. We used to fish live minnows for pike in the park and used worms for browns not that long ago. The trick is finding a way down to the water without having to walk too far.
  13. Eagle makes a kit for putting a transducer on the bottom of your trolling motor. Here is a pic of one on my transom trolling motor. I don't think it would be any different up front.
  14. Great pic, what a thick pike for it's length.
  15. Hey Steve-o, you got a pic of that 40"er from Mountsberg?
  16. I now hand land and use a smaller set up similar to what Musky and Specks showed in his reply. I know that these are unpopular among most musky fishermen on the board but my belief is they work quicker and are safer, for me and the fish, in most cases. I agree with Pure, carp fishing in a kayak is way harder than musky fishing. You effectively become part of the tackle. You are the bobber, following the carp wherever it wants to take you. When you do finally tire one out, there is nowhere to grab them. Here's one from a pond off the Grand and one from Gordon Pittock conservation area.
  17. For pike I would go to Island lake in Orangeville. They have, like Guelph, a "No gas motors" policy, and more pike than Guelph lake IMHO. If you do go to Guelph lake, stay on the road that you drive by the gate on. Don't follow the signs to the boat launches. Go right until the road nearly hits the lake. There's a parking area on the left a little past the last old stone house. You can launch anything at this ashpalt ramp. Go up the creek arms to the submerged trees. You should find crappies, and lots of snags if you're fishing the right spots, and possibly a pike or two feeding on them. Good luck.
  18. Like you, my biggest musky in a kayak is 36". All I have ever used is a landing glove or bare hands. I too fish with single or single treble hooks only. Had a little one jump into my lap with a bucktail in it's mouth. If it had been a j-13 rapala or other lure with 2 or 3 treble hooks this story might have ended with a trip to the emergency room. I have a gift certificate for BPS and was also thinking of a boga grip for musky in the kayak. From what I've heard you're better off spending more $ on the original boga than the cheaper imitations. I hope someone with experience using these lip grippers can shed some light on their usefullness with musky landing.
  19. Knightfisher I installed quick release seat bases on 1" plywood that is screwed into the original wood cross members. I also used stainless bolts and nuts on every rib in the canoe so they don't move. Ccmt, this is the 15th yr for this boat and I've never even had a close call, very stable. I would highly advise anyone who wanted to fish from a canoe to buy a Sportspal. As long as you have an electric motor to move it you'll be OK. They don't paddle well.
  20. Congrats on your first ski, I was hoping to run into you guys on the lake, maybe next time.
  21. Excellent report and pics guys. Looks like a great time.
  22. Thanks all. We had loads of fun giving the Shipper a hard time.We were very happy to see so many follows, even if most of them wouldn't commit. Glad to see so many OFC'ers did well on opening day. The weeds are still growing and the musky fishing will only be getting better. Next musky report will be from a kayak.
  23. WTG lew, can't wait for another season of your musky reports. mental note to self: buy a black and chartreuse bucktail
  24. Beware the evil banana.
