Most CA's do have lower limits but little enforcement. I think they should stop ice-fishing on them, that would be a start. Then maybe don't open for fishing until after bass season opens and close after labour day.

It depends where you are on Pigeon. From Camp Ashtabula it takes 10-15 minutes in a rental w/9.9hp. Where is your destination on Buckhorn?

My buddy Rand the Impaler caught this 38" musky on a tube jig in Pigeon lake 3 weeks ago. I'm sure you'll catch a nice steelhead on a tube if you keep at it.

I hooked this one in Alder lake in New Dundee in the spring and yes I cut my line rather than try to get my jig back.

My fishing buddy and I decided to hit the Grand river in Kitchener for some shore fishing for smallmouth bass today. We started at 11am and fished 3 different spots for an hour each. At the first spot we had a double header of 12" smallies. His was on a wooly beavertail and mine was on a power shad. The second spot I landed another one around 12" and he lost one to a jump and spit. Then he lost one that wrapped him around a boulder and snapped his line. I decided to roll up my pant legs and get in the river so I could cast to a likely looking spot. I switched to a bitsy bug jig with a spidergrub in pumpkinseed. As soon as it hit the water I saw some little minnows break the surface so I knew something was going for my jig. During the fight I called to my buddy because the bass I hooked had two good sized buddies of his own that were following him as I reeled in. It measured 19.5" and had a healthy girth for a river fish. Released to make someone elses day. As soon as he put the camera down my buddy casted to where the two followers were and hooked up with this 20" smallie with a tube jig. We moved to the third location where I hooked up with another fish that was at least as big as the two we landed. It decided when it was 4ft from me that it didn't want to be landed and spit the hook. I would have been upset if I hadn't landed a decent one earlier but I had the fun of the whole fight before it got off. It was a little windy but not a bad way to spend a few hours on the river.

It's part of the Grand river conservation authority but not connected to the Grand river itself. Like Dan says you have to learn the lake before you give up on it. But if you don't have the patience, that's OK too, more fish for me .

bought a Sportspal canoe for $50.00 ( Updated with a ?)
jediangler replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
He's not in the computer age just yet. He finally got a cellphone last week. If I can get him out fishing again, he's only been out 4 times this year, I'll take some better photos of his mount and get them to you. It won't be this weekend but maybe next. -

bought a Sportspal canoe for $50.00 ( Updated with a ?)

My buddy rigged his own motor mount for his Sportspal. He used stainless steel and wood for it and it is removable by pulling two pins. This is the only pic I could find to show it. Here is the same boat (side view) with a 240lb guy at the back and a 180lb guy in the front. With the battery, motor, fishing gear and the lunch they brought, that boat is pretty close to carrying 500lbs in this pic. -
My observation leads to a question on lure colour
jediangler replied to MSBruno's topic in General Discussion
More colours = more profit for the lure company. In lakes that contain the species you mentioned, I always go with a perch coloured lure because amost all fish will eat a perch. -

Good luck Jamie, I just wish I could get WFN .

I've been there twice this year with the kayak and have caught hammer handle sized pike, small smallmouth bass, small largemouth bass and some decent sized crappie. I had luck with small 1/16oz jig & grub combos in white and yellow and 4" black sluggos. The lake is so small you can fish it all in a couple hours so finding the good spots is up to you. Good luck and have fun.

OFN has gone downhill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure there is a forum out there for people who bought GM Mexican made cars that don't work, just keep searching. -
Don't forget to buy a few Mepps Musky Killer bucktails to throw along the weed edges. I prefer the gold blade and black bucktail myself. I also have had good luck trolling rapala J-13 in orange. You can get both of these lures at any Crappy tire store. Try around Sandy Point. Good luck.

Shade's Mill, Guelph Lake or Belwood Lake?
jediangler replied to oates's topic in General Discussion
If it's windy I'd go with Shades but if it's not, Guelph lake will keep you busy longer due to it's greater size. I wouldn't bother with Belwood myself. Bigger fish in Guelph as well. -
I'm with fil on this one, the ones between 26" and 36" seem to be the most dangerous. I had one jump into my lap in my kayak a few years ago with a bucktail treble hook in it's mouth. Not an area that I like razor sharp teeth or big hooks thrashing around. I lost my camera to that one but kept the family jewels intact.

Congrats on the nice fish man. I caught a 42" X 24" from the pier at Bronte years ago that weighed right on 30lbs.

Kawartha Muskie Report - Sat Sept 5th
jediangler replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
I always say that it's good luck if the damsel fly lands on your rod. It must be Uber good luck if they decide to do the funky chicken on your rod. -
Give Big Brothers and Sisters a call, I'm sure they could use it.

They got off way to easy.

That is a cool pic, nice to see some different angles once in awhile. Congrats to Rob and thanks for posting fil.

Great report and pics man, and a really nice pike to boot.
