  1. Guelph lake conservation area has some really good fishing and they rent kayaks so you can get off the shoreline.
  2. Congrats on the new PB Mike that's a hawg.
  3. Still lots of Dollarama fishing gear in Kitchener at the store by Westmount and Ottawa streets.
  4. I like it and think you will be very happy with it on a pier fishing set-up. I use it on my spinning rods only and use power pro on my baitcasters. I even use the 10lb test crystal on my ultra-light.
  5. Pick up a couple kayaks from WildRock Outfitters in town. They may also rent canoes, I don't know for sure.
  6. Haven't been up yet this year but white has always been good for me at Eugenia. It's a very clear lake so I'd figure natural colours would work best.
  7. I feel your pain Timmeh. It used to be such a great place. I've seen people fishing with live bait and keeping more than their limit even before pike season was open. Then when pike opens it seems half the anglers are fishing for largemouth bass on their spawning beds before bass season opens. Then there is the garbage problem. I'm not talking about people leaving worm buckets or pop cans, people drop whole garbage bags full along the shoreline. My brother once found a discarded battery on one of the islands. He picked it up and took it to a recycler on the way home. It's sad .
  8. It is usually better in the spring right after opener. The weeds get tall and the water levels go down and you can almost walk across them on the surface by late summer. Most shore anglers gather next to the dam. There is a two fish limit and no live bait is allowed. There is also a $10 fee that is enforced with fines in the $60 range for not complying. The place has seen greatly increased pressure over the last 3-5yrs and sizes and numbers have diminished because of this. I partly blame myself for posting some really good days at Mountsberg in the past.
  9. Or just don't fall out.
  10. Try the Deacon bridge closer to Golden lake end of the Bonnechere river. The old bridge is just upstream from the new one and has a launch ramp and parking nearby. Closer to Round lake is the Tramore bridge which has a sand and gravel launch right after you cross the bridge. You can catch pike, walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass as well as perch and other panfish in the Bonnechere.
  11. Thanks danbo but because of the tunnel hull on my Tegris those carts won't work. Native watercraft has developed one for the Ultimate boats but it isn't in full production yet. I'll probably build my own again, and yes it will be made out of hockey sticks .
  12. Well done Frozen-fire, that is a hawg largie. I don't weigh my fish anymore either. With C&R, a measurement of length is enough for me. That extra stress put on the fish while hanging from a scale doesn't sit right with me.
  13. You almost can't fish a tube "wrong". Just try different things and let the fish tell you what they want. Just pay attention and remember exactly what you were doing when you get a bite. The angle of your cast, is as important as, what action you were giving the tube. I went to a seminar once and the pro explained that when the bite was slow, he would drag the jig as if trying to draw as little attention to it as possible. He called it sneaking the tube back to the boat. A friend of mine caught a musky on a tube jig yesterday in Pigeon lake. No one sneaks a tube like this guy. I'll post the pic here when he sends it to me.
  14. I think you got off easy. You've realized this very early on in your fishing career. I've got an antique writing desk that houses all the tackle I've bought over the last 25yrs, and I don't ever use 99% of it. Now you know how you like to fish and what you need to do that. Just replace your gear as you lose it or wear it out. Remember that fishing is a consumer driven industry. New lures and colours aren't put out by manufacturers because the old ones don't work anymore. Tackle is made to catch fishermen first, if they catch a fish after they've been bought, that's a bonus. Good luck trying to unload any of that stuff. Just keep giving it to your friends that are just starting out.
  15. Great pics, that is a really beautiful part of Ontario. Now I have to get an ice pack for my sore neck .
  16. Puslinch info: Puslinch lake is the largest kettle lake in North America. There are pike, walleye, largemouth, crappie, perch, bluegill, sunfish, rockbass, catfish and carp. Deepest spot I've found was 22ft. Heavily weeded. No bait. One ramp on the north shore at McLintock's Landing. Wear your PFD, this lake has taken two people already this year. Good luck.
  17. I've fished Hilton Falls. It's a gin clear little lake with largemouth bass. I too love the conservation areas. No jetskis, nobody pulling waterskiers, or kids on tubes and nobody burning gas on the water. I don't have to keep looking over my shoulder to see if some idiot is going to go flying by me in his bassboat and flip my kayak with his wake. For $4.25 to get in to the Grand river conservation areas you won't find more entertainment for your money. You can use your day pass at any other conservation area within the region you purchased it. If you go to Hilton Falls to fish, wear some hiking boots for walking on the rocky shoreline. You don't want to wear sandals and take a chance on wiping out on those rocks. I tried to respond to this thread last night but the site went down just as I hit the "add reply" button.
  18. Back in she goes. I remember fishing BOQ years ago and seeing the difference in colour of the meat after the fish were bigger than 4lbs.
  19. Congrats on the PB Luc and good on you for releasing it. It's true, the little ones taste much better anyway.
  20. You know Amy's no good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8TwNEDo6kY&feature=fvst
  21. Nice one danbo, Canadian made too. I like the giant cockpit on those yaks. It's gonna be crazy fast. Congrats.
  22. Talked my lifelong friend and fishing buddy Rand "The Impaler" into giving kayak fishing a try. We chose Shades mill in Cambridge because of it's small size and lack of stinkpots. He caught 2 largemouth and I caught a smallie and a pike. Man was it hot out there today. Here's the pics. Water temps were 77F and the air felt like 100F.
  23. Well done, that's how to stick to it in the heat. Do you know what the water temps were? I got 72F in Scugog last Saturday and 77F at Shades mill today. Almost like summer water temps finally.
  24. Great pics Toddy. How was the boat traffic? I like to take the kayak on weekdays because of the weekend traffic.
  25. Bass, walleye, crappie and musky in Scugog. Don't know the Port Perry area but there is a ramp at Caesarea.
