  1. One of my most memorable days... There had been a LOT of rain one year and a trib to the st Lawrence had colored half the Larry brown in front of our cottage..... As a youngster I often trolled flats with flatline worm harnesses and rapalas for whatever would bite.... This was in a canoe with a 2hp motor... Mostly I'd catch pike... Smallmouth... Perch... So this day dad was heading out for walleye in the big boat.... He asked if I wanted to bring the canoe in so I could go with him... I said I was fine seeing as he wasn't alone and I was catching some bass.... 2-3 hours later he pulls up to me on his way in.... I asked how he made out... He had been skunked.... He asked how I had done.... I lifted 3 nice walleye (2-4lbs) off the floor of my canoe... To this day I'm not sure if he was proud... Jealous... Or both that his young son ( maybe 10 years old at the time) had out fished him.... That's one of my favorites...
  2. I'm thinking about giving the walleye a break and trying to get another day of musky in... Luckily the current in the St.Lawrence keeps a few launches open pretty much year round.... You could always do a road trip to a river musky fishery like the Larry or Ottawa....
  3. And people wonder why I'd rather travel in Canada instead of a beach down south....
  4. If I posted what I really think she was nobody would believe me...
  5. Maybe you should re read rich.... I was under the impression you were saying that all anyone needs are the basics and expensive/lots of gear doesn't help..... And i made it clear if this wasn't the case that I AGREE with you.... I'm not hating..... Just different opinions... I feel a rookie should get good gear... And a wide variety of tackle... Then figure out what they like using the best for their location and species of choice.... But that's my opinion....
  6. Now I'm gunna take my $1000 worth of crankbaits and go catch some walleye.... TTYL armchair experts...lol
  7. I said this thread was funny... That's a simple little comment... Then rich asked why I thought this thread was funny.... So I let him know.... And I made it clear how I interpreted this thread and how I felt if I was wrong or right with my interpretation.... Just my opinions here....
  8. How you've exagerated peoples good advise to look ridiculous... Then said all you need is a a hook... Weight... And worm to catch fish... Then admitted to having 2 rooms in your home FULL if fishing gear... So your spewing advise you don't believe or your an "easily pursuaded" consumer.... And how some are using one specific scenario to back this minimalist idea across the whole spectrum of fishing... That's what I think is funny.... Ill put my money on my box full of tackle over your worm and hook any day.... If all your trying to say is if someone has no gear.... No experience whatsoever.... And very limited funds for gear.... That they can get a cheep combo a hook and a worm and catch SOME fish.... I agree.... But if your saying a hook and worm can keep up to a variety of tackle in a variety of situations.... I disagree.... Strongly....
  9. I had the same problem... I just said it was an old boat that was at my cottage for years and I wanted to put a motor on it.....
  10. I'm still trying to get her.... I'm hopefull that the fish is gunna stay in the area and I might have a shot at getting her.... It's a wintering spot so there's a good chance it will stick around... The odds it'll hit again are slim... Bur there's a chance....lol
  11. That's fine if you wanna catch the bare minimum available to you.... But there's a lot of gear that really does help you catch more fish.... I don't fish bass and trout but I'm sure someone with a variety of TOOLS to catch fish.... On average.... Will smoke the worm and hook fisherman... All depends on what you want out of your day fishing.... I'm always trying to learn and get better and catch more fish on a daily basis... I do this for personal reasons... Some its money.... Some just wanna be at the top of the game in their area.... Some wanna eat more fish... I have a $400+ dollar rod to troll walleye... Could I get by with a $20 rod...yes... But has the $400 dollar rod helped me catch more fish... YES it has... I can feel things with this rod that cheaper rods won't detect....
  12. Thanks for the review... I appreciate it...
  13. Thanks... And like I said... I have a 1 man for moving around... This is gunna be for lazy fishing.... Just getting out with friends/family.... Where the company ant time is more important then the fishing....
  14. I'm looking to get a second ice hut for family days on the ice or road trips with buddies... I'm thinking something big enough for 2 with lots of gear (1-2 rods each... Heater... Sonar... Minow pail...etc....) for trips or me the wife and our little fella just getting out.... And in a pinch fit 3 guys with one rod each... I'm looking at getting a pop up hut to save on space, weight and money.... This will be my secondary hut... I currently have a fish trap pro for run and gun solo fishing... But I'd like to be able to do trips with buddies and all be comfortable.... And take my wife and kid out for some perching and hot cocoa.... Leaning towards Eskimo fat fish 949... MSRP $299 Its 94x94 inch floor space 7'10"x7'10" Or The fat fish 767 is 76x76 floor space with MSRP of $250 6 '4"x6'4" Leaning to the flatfish for the extra floor space.... And the overall shape should be better in heavy wind then traditional cubes..... Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated... Thanks
  15. Ice... I still have 3-4 weeks of open water left... But I do enjoy ice fishing... It's warmer and dryer with a "Buddy" heater in a clam fish trap pro... It's flippin cold in the boat in Nov/Dec....lol
  16. Nice catch... Float suits for perch.... And I thought I was nuts... Lol
  17. I watched a deer rubbing its antler (only had one left) on a fence the other night.... Good 10-15 minute display...
  18. Tonight I lost the biggest walleye I've ever seen in person... It would have been my PB by far.... I thought I had another musky and all of a sudden this tank walleye shows its face... I reached for the net but it was too late..... I almost jumped in after the beast.... A small tear rolled down my cheek and my stomach turned.... Gunna be thinking about that one for some time.... Aaaaaarrrrrrggggggghhh!!!!!!!
  19. Happened again.... Tonight I was broke off drifting a big minnow for walleye.... An hour or 2 later I got her trolling... Still had the 6-7 inch minnow in its mouth.... I guess 30 pound braid isn't enough...lol
  20. Yup... Was gunna go state side for an ipad to save $75 bucks (regular $399... They are giving $75 gift cards back) .... But then I thought about waiting for hours in line at customs and Walmart.... Ill go fishing instead...
  21. Just making sure to that you for the report... Nothing I enjoy more at 245 in the morning then reading walleye reports....
  22. I'm casting as I drift... I though I'd try the stinger and see if it hung me up and it didn't... So why not use it... A few of the fish only had that hook in em.... And even with it I missed a few...
