well a friend (Jigs) and i headed out in search of some "new to us" walleye holes yesterday....
after driving around for a while without seeing much safe ice in the areas we had hoped to fish we started searching some more....we found an area we thought might hold some walters... we were right...
started punching holes and right away we started marking fish in every hole... but no takers... i tried all my top 5 lures... nada... so i decided to put on my number 1 lure for walleye through the ice and grind it out. i just kept changing my cadence and eventualy... bang... fish on... first walleye of 2012... not long after that i see another come in on the vexilar... bang... walleye number 2... and the same happened again about 10 minutes later... now im on a roll... on the third fish while i was reeling it up.... i could see on the vexilar that there was another one on bottom... dropped back down... bang... again there was another ready and waiting before i could get the hooks out... this went on for about 45 minutes... at times i could see three walleye waiting on bottom for my lure... it was amazing...
in the end i had iced 15 walleye on a spot i never fished during hardwater... felt great...
and as a bonus.... my fishing partner for the day got his first walleye through the ice as well as his second...third... and fourth
so together we iced 19 walleye in about 1.5-2 hours...
they were small fish(under 18 inches) but it was fun getting those numbers as well as seeing someone get their first walleye through the ice...
I meant how many did you catch per day per person??? Sorry I worded it wrong...
I've always wanted to do a trip but I'm really curious about how many walleye each person gets per day... Aprox
Here's a couple for you...
I dont have a picture of my pb musky... 53.5 inches But this one is only 0.5 inch shorter...
Pb walleye... 31 inches...
Pb smallie... 24 inches at 7.5 lbs... Picture doesn't do it justice... I'm 6'4" 225 in that pic... This bass managed to get hooked on a 8-10 inch minnow while I was musky fishing...
Not sure the weight on this salmon but I'm pretty sure it was over 30lbs... I put a 28 on the scales before and this was way bigger...
Pb mirror carp... 23-24... Can't remember without checking my books...
And last but not least my pb common carp at 36lb 12oz... Caught at the same spot as my pb mirror... It's a good spot...
These sores seen to really show up in cold weather...
I don't see many all year... But come nov dec... We start seeing them...
Same with black dots on largemouth bass... Only ever see this in the winter...
im gunna try dead bait on my tip up for pike this weekend and i was wondering if anybody had tips/advice for me...
im probably gunna be fishing 20-30 feet of water... clear water... so how deep do i set the dead bait at?
what kinda rig works best?
the baits are big suckers left over from fall musky fishing... i froze them in water with salt added... they are 8-12 inches in length...
thanks for any info you can spare...
after icing 2 pike my last time out im starting to get confidence in tip ups...
I had a bearing pop before...
Changed the bearing and wiped some of the grease off... Couple years later there was still grease on the rim...
I also have the overflow holes but it should only come out of that hole when filling the bearing buddies...
