I second that notion. We've also had retrievers all our lives. They may raise a fuss within sight of a large animal, but I don't see them causing any harm. Without knowing to what extent the dogs were harrassing the livestock, and what kind of livestock it was, no one should make assumptions. I can't honestly a golden retriever causing any physical harm to a cow or pig. I'm sure dogs can cause come considerable commotion among cows, especially milking cows and calfs, but I just can't see a golden retriever physically hurting such an animal. We do need to know the full story. If the farmer was within his rights, I sure hope he used good judgement before shooting such an animal at close range. Otherwise, I'd wheel him into the nut house.. The owners were careless no doubt. If the owners knew there were livestock in the area, the should have been placed on a leash. Seems a shame that all this could have been prevented had the owners kept their dogs within eye sight, or tied to a leash. To me, this is news, because I can't even fathom someone shooting an animal at close rance with an otherwise peacefull nature. Pretty freaky s**t if you ask me. Who the heck is this guy anyway?? Can we get a picture of this farmer John?? cheers HD

Very kewl! I stop and look every time I'm in those parts... I was actually volunteering with Ontario Streams back in 1999, when they notched the first wear there. We knotched the last wear in 2004 at Cruikshank Park. Makes it all worth while when I look at those shots... Let's hope those fish reach suitable spawning grounds and we get a natural return from them. cheers! HD

WOW. That's a bummer. Being in the travel industry, I can imagine how frustrating that is. You plan ahead and prepare and spend time and money based on something that was communicated to you and it turns out that there was a miss-communication... Understandably, you should be ticked. Myself, I'd raise a little hell. I say haggle with them. They should give you an incentive like offer free gas or something like that. Wherever it is that you're going, it sounds like there's a general lack of order, and from what you've told us, it sounds like you're getting set up for one major migraine. I say make like Seinfeld and tell them that they DON'T know how to place a reservation. A reservation means that whatever it is that you book will be available when you need it. They may know how to reserve, they just don't know how to HOLD the reservation. There's the taking, and then there's the holding!! Good luck fishing though. Let us know how it turns out! cheers HD

re the threads on all the salmon river fishing
highdrifter replied to aniceguy's topic in General Discussion
AHAAHAH. If by guiding you mean talking out folks that are starting out in exchange for a quick session, then you should feel like a champ. I know I would. I wouldn't exactly call that guiding though. LOL -
Is there an echo in here?? Look at my folder and avatar, then look over to the shots taken on the thread. Don't tell me you can't see the difference. Bows will strike legit while they're upriver. That shot was taken in November, and the fish was released with nothing more than a sore jaw. Released, to do whatever it wanted. Some people don't get it, I call those people SIMPLE.

I'd invite all consciencious and ethical anglers to put their 2 cents in here. I fish because it's my in blood, and I grew up around the outdoors. However, I was also taught respect. You wanna get down to the nitty gritty of laws and ethics, COs and P3TA members would agree on the same thing. There's a time and a place for everything. This report's got neither. PERIOD.

Just another reason to give the fish a break. They're living things for god sakes. Meaning they live and breath and feel, just like humans do. All fish species, no matter the state that they're in, merit our respect. Why involve the MNR in this. Forget legality, the ETHICALLY is a bit more on the line for this report.

Dave, I remember the first time we fished the spot you're posting here... That's only one of the reasons why I've stopped fishing for salmon in the rivers when they're running. With all due respect, look where you're fishing. It's nothing more than a small creek, a trickle... Even if the fish you and you're clients are hooking are legally hooked, the dorsals on those fish are breaching the surface when they're being lined. There's no if and or buts about it. Those fish are pretty easy pickings. IS THIS SPORT?? Some people say yes, but I beg to differ. Fish entering that creek only want to spawn, but instead are harrassed by would be anglers... Fish in that stage should be given a break, even if I know for a fact that the return from that creek is NILL. Personnaly, I think you should be donating your time to improving the flow and riparian vegetation of that creek, and guide your clients in the bigger water, where hooking fish would a little bit more legit... From one conservationist to another, wouldn't you think so?? just MY 2 cents HD

Interesting Rich, Could they be following their noses to the salmon redds?? Never seen that either. Is there such a thing as a fall spawn for suckers? Kewl shots though cheers HD

Very kewl! I have a question though. Would love to have the canoe here myself so I could access the outside of the mud line. Do I need lights on a canoe? Or can I get away with just a head light. I fish just on the outside of the Toronto Harbour, so do I still need mount lights?? Love the chinis when they're still in the lake. I've stopped going to the rivers this time of years because I'm afraid what scene awaits me when I reach the water.. You've given me some inspiration though!! cheers! HD
