  1. Really just about anywhere in the Toronto Islands canal is good for carp. I usually take the Hanlans ferry and walk towards Centre Island fishing along the way. Have fun....there are some monsters in there.
  2. You called a dog over to you from your deck, and then you shot it? Bizarre. That just don't seem right.
  3. I unfortunately can't help you as I am not familiar with the Marina. However I also have a question regarding the area. I have a canoe and I would like to go up there tomorrow morning. Can someone please let me know where I could pick up some minnows and where I can park/put the canoe in the water. Thanks- all help is greatly appreciated!
  4. lol- right there. I usually fish on the other side though, in the marina.
  5. I just took a very quick look through this post- man, some of you guys actually seem to have a hatred for these birds. Man has removed the predators from the ecosystem and that is why there is an "overpopulation" in some areas. Many of you are complaining about the trees that cormorants kill while nesting. Think about the number of trees that are completely wiped out by the ever expanding urban sprawl around Toronto. There is ABSOLUTELY no comparison. Shooting protected vultures??????? Man is the dominant creature so far, we have the right to defend what we want?????? These sentiments are problematic.
  6. Other good places that are accessible by public transit are Grenadier Pond near the High Park Subway stop or the Humber River by the Old Mill subway stop. Grenadier pond is good mostly for panfish, and at the humber you can get some cats and carp (and billions of Goby) One of my favourite places to fish around here is the Marina at the bottom of Spadina Street. Many good pike there.
  7. We went to Fishmaster's place this past weekend and camped overnight. Wind was insane, but the fishing from shore was great. So good we stayed there for two nights! Big fire and big fish and a couple of wobbly pops- what a great time. I think that we may go back in a couple of weeks and try our luck again.
  8. I am going to be cruising around Scarborough and Pickering today with my pike tackle. I will probably see you guys around!
  9. Thanks for the response... I kind of figured that they might be murky! I guess that I will go in the other direction. We are heading up to Silent Lake by Bancroft to do some ice fishing instead. I have fished a few lakes in the area and caught splake and decent size rock bass. Never actually fished silent lake though, but I hear there are some okay size lakers. Winter Camping for the Weekend! I finally get to break in some new Sorels!
  10. Anyone tried ice fishing for bows on GB? I know there are sometimes people around Meaford, anyone have any luck with this?
  11. Hey everyone, I am thinking of heading up towards GB today. Can anyone provide some info as to the ice conditions? also I am thinking of stopping at the Beaver and Bighead rivers to fish for trout at the mouths. Anyone have any info on this? Is it worth the trip up there from TO or is it all muddy? Any and all info is, of course, appreciated!
  12. I am not from there, but I have a bunch of friends in Field/River Valley. I love heading up there, the fishing is awesome. Thinking of moving up there eventually!
  13. Hey everyone, Just wondering if anyone can help me with this. I have two great little baitcasting setups. The rods are great, nice and stiff, sensitive and they were pretty cheap. I was wondering if anyone here has tried to cut the trigger off a baitcasting rod so that they can use a spinning reel instead. I realize that the first guide on a baitcasting rod is very small, but this should not cause too much of a problem, and because they have the small guide they are easier to pack into a tube for travel. When I am camping I want to bring as few rods as possible, and I like fishing with both my baitcasting reels and spinning reels, depending on what I am fishing for, so this seems like a good idea. Anybody have any suggestions what I should use to remove it? (hacksaw, grinder, sandpaper, etc......) or conversely, anyone have any good reasons why I should not do this? Cheers, any input is appreciated.
  14. People like us who care enought to sit here and debate the semantics of the regulations are most definitely not the problem. What if a fish swallows the hook, it is hooked in the stomach, not the mouth. If you take the regulations by the word, this fish is illegal. If it is hooked through the gills from the inside, It is illegal. Good luck reviving it when you let it go. You are not allowed to bow-fish after daylight. Who decides EXACTLY what time that is? You, the CO or the weather network? This is trivial. You should know, in general what is wrong or right, and you act accordingly. Now excuse me, I have to go and register my cloth, portable ice hut (with no floor) with the ministry because the base area is 21.51 square feet. Cheers
  15. mmmmmm.....fiddleheads. Just a friendly warning to those who do not know, one of the most common ferns in southern Ontario is the Bracken fern. This looks exactly like the edible ostrich ferns (tastes like them too), however it is poisonous to many animals including humans. It breaks down vitamin B in the body and the poisoning is said to have similar symptoms to radiation poisoning. I only know this because I picked a bunch and did some research before I ate them. Here is a pretty cool link (if you are thinking of picking some good ones) : http://wildwoodsurvival.com/survival/food/...fern/index.html
