  1. I've got a bradley smoker too check out this site http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php there are lots of tips and recipes here. I use my smoker on a regular basis and it is great. Smoke a lot of salmon and trout. There are basic brines that are quite simple to put together that work well. Have done a couple of turkeys for thanksgiving tint he smoker and im not a big fan but everyone loved them. Lately been smoking lots of venison and moose. great stuff! read lots and experiment.
  2. We have a Polaris 500 and Yamaha 450. I use the Yamaha for plowing snow because it is easier to handle and turn and it will push a lot of snow. Definitely go with the fuel injection it is great in the cold weather. Anybody I know that rides a honda loves them same with power steering.
  3. A couple of weeks ago the MNR gave permission to have one of their nest removed to make room for the windmills that are going in around Fisherville. What a shame!
  4. I have a 2001 Lund WC14 and it had an older evinrude 25 on it when I got it and it was a good size for the boat at top speed bot too much to troll with so I traded it for a 20 and now it takes a bit longer to get where im going but it trolls nicer. The boat itself is great I was looking for something like you just bare bones and I could dress it up like I wanted it. Nice and wide and deep, we use it on the lakes around Timmins often.
  5. I agree with Pikeslayer make sure you rinse good after the brine period and then dry good and rub. Dont skip the brine part it is very important to making good smoked meat.
  6. if you have more than one rack full I would suggest you rotate the racks so the bottom ones do not over cook and dry out. I am firing mine up tomorrow and doing a pork shoulder for pulled pork and some venison baked beans. Looking forward to it!
  7. Two free launches in Cayuga and Ive been catching all kind of cats here the last week or so.
  8. you missed the snowmobile/atv show by about 6 weeks. We bought an 08 Polaris 500 EFI from a dealer that buys bikes from the US auctions . It is a very nice bike and only had 348 miles on it when we bought it but when you looked at the hours it had on it it was 1170 so something just doesnt add up but we are still with it. But just do some checking before purchasing. There are lots of these guys buying these bikes at the auction at least 3 within 20 miles of us.Looking at buying a second one now and I think the X2 is a great bike (wanna use it for the dog to sit on the back hopefully) and missed a great deal on a used on last week. Think you are very smart looking at the FI with winter on the way. I was at a polaris dealer in Brantford today and they had a new 11 550 fi left in stock still for a good price. good luck in your search
  9. When we fish Rice lake we always do night fishing for walleye and usually go out about 7:30 or 8 pm and troll the shore lines of islands etc till around 2 am and usually have good luck after dark. Being along the shoreline the water depth varies quite a bit but like someone said in a previous post make sure you are prepared with headlight and flashlights etc to make it easier to get the fish in the boat properly.
  10. We have a Foodland here in town and I found them there a couple of weeks ago but they were over 2 bucks a can. My wife said I was nuts but I got some anyway just to see what all the hipe was about.
  11. I got a spare prop from Jim at J and J near Hagersville for a good price. Jim is very knowledgeable and a good guy guy to deal with. Ive sent a few friends his way with no complaints so far.
  12. This year we are having a ham and baked potatoes one night and then use the ham and some onions and peppers etc to make omelettes for breakfast the next morning. One night will be chicken wings and French fries. Both done using one of the turkey friers and oil. Third night is roast beef on a bun with gravy and french fries. Ive bought a sirloin roast and will cook and slice before we go and heat up a big package of gravy. Easy and quick. We usuallly have a dozen guys and most of this is done fairly easy with the proper cooking stuff Most days we take a little burner out in the boat and meet in an arranged spot and use a fry pan to cook either hot dogs or grilled cheese for anybody thats hungry. In the past we have done Steak and baked potatoes, a favourite of all is spaghetti made with ground venison or moose meat along with veggies etc. cooking the noodles in a turkey fries works ok. We have a couple of turkey fryers we use along with 2 , 2 burner cookers we use along with a variety of pots and pans we carry to make cooking easy. I do the majority of the cooking usually for 10-14 guys and with a bit of planning I dont spend much time at it. I go fishing with the guys in the morning and come back with them at night so there is no staying behind in camp to cook. We do this on crown land so there is no hydro etc to cook with just whatever we take with us.
  13. Ive lived in or around Caledonia all my life and dont ever remember there being a public boat ramp. If you are refering to the one I am thinking of I think it is part of Lafortune park and likely belongs to the grand river conservation and as long as the park was open it was private but i think the gate has just been left open the last few years making it free. But yes it sucks that the only other place is next door where you have to pay. Come to Cayuga we have a public boat ramp here and the fishing is great.
  14. went out tonight and fished from shore and the bite was slow but managed to land a six pounder. moemoe is right the river is high and lots of junk floating down stream I saw at least 10 2x4s and a log 8 inches across and ten feet long so carefull if you are boating out there.
  15. I havent been to Dunnvile yet but did manage to get out here in Cayuga. I went out last Thursday and didnt put my boat in but fished from shore and caught a 4 lb and a 6 lb. I fished for about 2 hours nad the bite was crazy pretty much the whole time . Hopefully this weekend I will get the boat in and try again.
  16. river is real high and fast right now I would give it another week or so then its time for spring sucker fishing so you can cut it up and go spring catfishing!
  17. already lots of water laying on top of the ice out front of the house here in Cayuga. Hopefully it will get cold again real soon and the ice will stay in.
  18. Ive lived and worked in Caledonia most of my life, what do you need to know?
  19. A buddy of mine has that motor but I think it is an 08 and had a terrible time with injectors and plugs for the first year or so. They told him they were great motors for trolling with and after he put a kicker on and stopped trolling with the big motor all his problems were solved and it runs great now. But it was a $5000 solution by the time he bought the kicker and had it all installed.
  20. Fished 2 boats over from Corvette all day long and fishing was very tough. There were only 5 fish caught all day and they caught 3 of them. I think the biggest one was over 3 lbs if i remember correctly. Fished this tourney 3 years and after last year said i was not going back again but im a die hard and dont like to put my boat away too early because the Grand river gives up a lot of Walleye this time of year. I had 3 buddies that wanted to go in this derby and were very disapointed in the fact that it cost over 50 bucks a boat to enter and at the end of the day there there is nothing, no prize table or anything other than he weighs the fish in and has a bbq. Then they commented on the fact that he was charging 2 bucks for burger. so needless to say I guess there are 4 guys that are not back next year.
  21. I ran into him at his house in Caledonia at their annual yard sale last year and bought a rubber net off of him for a fair price and he had lures 4 for 10 bucks and I bought 4 . He was also selling waders and some other fishing stuff. Seemed like a nice guy and had a beautiful Ranger boat in his garage.
  22. Jim at J and J is a fishing friend of mine and does some very good work dont be afraid to give him a call. It is only just over an hours drive from Scarborough and you can stop on the way home and do some fishing. Lots of great fishing between here and there.
  23. Lots of places on the Grand to fish for bass like around Cayuga and Caledonia but Ive never heard of Dunnville being a good spot unless you do like Court said and run to the lake.
  24. We use crown land likely 2 or 3 times a year for 4 or 5 days at a time. One of our friends introduced us to camping on these spots. The locals also use these spots and will put you onto different lakes to go to for the kind of fish that you like to catch. Some of these spots that are cleared already get very busy at certain times of the year just like camp grounds do. It is a very cheap way to go about setting up camp. We are heading to our favourite spot for the long weekend in May and we are leaving a day early to make sure we get a good spot.
