I would hold off on trim tabs until you do some more testing. You should not need trim tabs on any 17 foot boat. Like has been suggested above you need to move some weight forward in your boat. Another issue I believe is that you are under propped. You should be in a 17 or 19 inch prop with cupping. A 4 blade will give you stern lift and cupping will allow it to plane at lower speeds. The bow lift is causing your problem. You need a prop to give you stern lift. Dealers are not the best at propping new boats. They prop for general use. Everyone will load there boat differently and thus require a different prop. Also as mentioned is the use of a hydrofoil. That will get the boat on plane faster and also hold it on plane at lower speeds.

Not sure about tenting sites other than Big Bear. As far as the public launch goes though, there is no docking at the launch just a ramp. As for what they charge you at Big Bear for launching and parking I would highly recommend it. We were charged $3 a day parking and $5 launch fee. We were there for 5 days/4 nights and they only charged us $17. Our vehicle was safer then leaving it at some public road with no one around to watch it. As for the fishing, we went in august and caught over 80 fish. We plan on going back in September, but we have a place to stay on private property.

I agree with Tayzak15 on the bowguard. We were lucky with a pontoon being high off the ground but you here the stones hitting the pontoons all the time. If I bring my glass boat next year I will be buying or making some sort of guard to keep all the stones from hitting my boat.

Just got back from 5 days on Horwood Lake. We left from Big Bear Camp and went about 5 miles south and then camped at a friend of a friends cottage. Fishing was pretty good considering the cold front that came through on Wednesday with a hail storm. We caught around 85 walleye/pickerel, 10 perch and 5 pike for the 2 of us that went. Nothing big with most of them around 1 to 1.5 lbs. The biggest we caught was about 2.5 lbs. The neighbors grandson(17) caught one that would go 3-3.5 lbs. The pike were all small with one better fish around 10 lbs but no picture. All the fish were caught on a jig and worm or a dropshot setup with just a worm on the hook. We did not fish hard with only about 5-6 hrs a day split between morning and night. All in all a very good trip and will likely do it again next year.

I would definitely raise your motor. Although the 7 inches may be good on flat ground, if you enter/exit a parking lot at any time you may end up dragging it on the ground. The same could happen if you come to any speed bumps.

The heat shields that cover the burners on my BBQ are all rusting and falling apart. At $20 a piece and needing 5 of them it will be pricey. I was wondering about making them out of aluminum. I have 1/4 aluminum 5 inches wide that I would be using. Does anyone see a problem using aluminum instead of steel or stainless. Thanks Mark

Do you have any pics of the trailer. I would be interested to see what happened. It is hard to get a visual from your description only because every trailer manufacturer builds them differently. I have seen the complete wheel and hub assembly come off but never and entire axle.

Try scrubbing in one direction only. I usually go from front to back. Just a habit picked up from filing. You should never run a file in both directions.

The Alumacraft will be a much better boat. As far as width goes it is only 4 inches narrower at the max but is 3 inches wider at the transom. In other words the smokercraft flares out at the console and then tapers at the transom. The longer hull will ride better in rough water and I agree that the Yamaha is a much better motor and there are more dealers for service.

I am on my second set of Delco Voyager batteries in 15 years. I had 11 years out of my first set and am now onto 4-5 years on my second set. They are sealed batteries with no maintenance needed. They will run around $140 a piece for a group 27.

OK. Here is what I have come up with to show the difference between Trak Marine v7 and Garmin Bluechart v9.5. The 2 pictures are of southbay since it is in your name. The top photo is by TrakMarine and the bottom one is from Bluechart. Detail was set to highest possible for both charts. I have not been able to find anywhere that says the Trak Marine maps will work on Lowrance products. They are compatible with Garmin though. I hope this helps you out.

Not sure about on the Lowrance since it is out in the garage, but on mapsource for my Garmin I can change the level of detail that is shown on the screen. I will look at this in the morning to see if there is a similar feature on Lowrance. Might explain why the island doesn't show up.

I have not compared the 2 side by side that is why I would like the location of the island that does not show up. This way I can bring the area up in mapsource and see the differences. I got the trak marine version for smaller lakes and lakes in Quebec. I have a friend who has a cottage in Northern Quebec not to far from New Liskeard. I have the garmin bluechart, trak marine and I can power up my Lowrance to see the difference. Send me a pm or post coordinates of something that does not show up on the Lowrance map and I will look it up and see if I can post the picture for you to see. Mark

I have the trak maps inner lakes for my garmin handheld. If you post the coordinates of the missing island I can check to see if it is shown on trak maps. If it is I will try to take a screen shot and psot what it looks like.

A friend rennted a place on Oak lake north of Havelock. The lake is only about 1.5 miles square and they found fish easily. Sorry I do not know the name of the cottages he rented from but you could google the lake and see what shows up.

Take a look at a Garmin 60c or 76c. they should fall in your budget. As for the mapping, it is another expense but can be obtained from other sources if you understand what I mean.

Alot of people like Yamahas but me I am a Honda guy. The main reason for this is the shaft drive as compared to belt drive by all the other brands. The Honda's shaft will never slip in extreme wet conditions but the Yamaha's belt will slip if it gets wet. I agree they do not let water in much but when they do the belt will slip. I have seen the Grizzly go through some pretty nasty stuff though. Just my 2 cents to help with the indecision. Honda is where my name originated when I had a Canadian Trail Edition in red.

I haven't been up on the mountain in a while and was wondering if Pro Gear was still around( not that I would shop there). I used to go to the store you like alot when I lived up there, but now that I live in Grimsby I have kinda been spoiled with Grimsby Tackle and Peter's in St. Catharines. As for the other store that your friend had the issue with I could of named the store before the ammo comment. I always felt awkward in there until I went with my neighbor who fished against the owners in tournaments. Now they recognize me and will say hi. I also know some others that work there that I knew before they worked there. But because of the way I was treated and felt before they knew who I was, I do tend to shop everywhere else first.

What do you mean by 4"? Is that 4" x 4" x 3ft. I probably have 2" and maybe 3" but 4" is getting big for angle iron.

You can find one in the Kawarthas Backroad Map book. Not sure where you are from to point you in the right direction. Any Sail or MEC store should have this book. If you are near St. Catharines then Peninsula Press on Bunting has the book and possibly individual lakes. Check your pm.
