It was not really a long trip for the pontoon. It is only about a 15-20 min drive from New Liskeard. My friend stores the pontoon in New Liskeard every winter. We should have taken the time at his cottage to fill the tires and maybe they would have lasted. The tires probably have less than 2000km on them. You soon realize how much sun damage can occur to tires when they just sit there all summer and don't move.

Well, last saturday I headed north with the intention of fishing Lady Evelyn for 4 days. Went to a friends cottage in Quebec not far from New Liskeard for sat night. We got up sunday morning and loaded his pontoon on the trailer. One tire looked a little low so he said he would fill it up when we stopped for gas about 10km away. No air at the station, so he said he will fill it in New Liskeard. Half a km from Canadian Tire and doesn't the tire blow. Stop unhook trailer and get another from Canadian Tire, put on trailer and off we go again. Get to Mowat's landing and unload pontoon and load all gear up. Head over to the dam and walk up to get the guy with the trailer and he says he can not tow pontoon boats. My friend says he called and talked to a woman and she said they could no problem and that the trailer would take a 22ft pontoon. Well what to do now? Back over to the launch and ask at Mowat's if there is anywhere on the river to camp. They say there is an island about 14km up river and there would be nobody there. Drive all the way up there only to find someone on the island. Find a family on another pontoon and ask them if they know of somewhere to camp. They mention an old camp not too far away. We find the spot and it turns out not too bad. A little bit of work and we have home set up. Fishing wasn't the greatest. Three nights in a row for about 15-20 minutes the walleye would bite but that's it. We did manage to have fish for dinner 2 nights. We managed a total of 13 walleye(13-16 inches), 5 smallmouth(1lb or less) and 5 pike about 20-24 inches. Thursday morning we load up and head back to the launch. We get the truck and go to retrieve the pontoon and BANG goes the other tire. Off to Canadian Tire to get another tire. Finally get the pontoon loaded and back to his cottage. Not the trip that we had planned but we managed to have a good time and explored some water none of us have ever been on. I am sure next year will be different now that we know to bring boats instead of the pontoon. If they had said in the first place that they could not bring the pontoon over the dam we would have brought our boats instead. Mark

I have not fished it in september but I have stayed at perfect view resort quite a few times and it has always been great. The launch is a little steep on land and shallow once you hit the water but they will launch it for you with a tractor if you want. They can get the trailer farther in with the tractor than you can with a vehicle.

As the title says, I am looking for Lady Evelyn reports. I am leaving next saturday to spend a week fishing and camping there. Just wondering how the fishing has been and what the water level is at. Thanks Mark

Lake Simcoe or Simcoe the town/city. They are not even close to one another. If it is Lake Simcoe then as aboce Sibald has a nice launch and beach for kids.

Not sure if the pricing for St. Croix rods is the same as it used to be, but at one time they were like Apple products in that their price was fixed by them and not by the store. That way every store would have to sell for the same price to give the smaller stores the same chance at a sale as the larger stores.

Actually there was one back in May around the Oakville/Burlington border that had to be shot because it was getting to close to people. It was there for a couple of days before it was shot.

No they have not changed anything on the Niagara. The coast guard has been out this year sending people back if they had not called in to say they were crossing the border. I hope your friend has all 3 licenses for Ont,PQ, and NY or he could get charged for no license as well.

Instead of renting a boat, have you considered a guide/charter. Look up Niagara Sportfishing(Frank DiMarcantonio) or Cast Adventures(Paul Castellano). Although they will cost more than renting, your chances of getting into musky will increase dramatically. The musky tend to bigger on the lower but not as many of them. You would probably do better fishing the upper river. I would not even think of fishing either from a canoe but that is just me.

Not sure if Algonquin does or not but along the gift card line would camping permit/gift card for Algonquin or another park you would like to try. Forces you to have to go on another trip but some of the cost would be already covered. As far as a gps goes, you had the correct brand just the wrong model. I would look at the 60/62 cx(waterproof but does not float) or a better choice would be a 76cx(waterproof and floats). They all have the same screen size and are color. Garmin has very good topo maps for them as well as hydrographic maps.

A friend of mine goes on a fly-in every year to Percy lake north of Nakina. A friend of his has sleep apnea and they take along a honda generator. His machine will run 2 nights without recharging. They run the generator every second night for 3-4 hours and use less than 2 gallons of gas for a week. We are planning to go to Lady Evelyn on a boat in trip in July and this friend that I have not met is going with us. He does not let sleep apnea stop him from going on these kinds of trips.

West Marine carries 6 awg marine wire at a cost of $59.99US for 25 feet times 2 will be well over $125. Buying it by the foot will only save you about $20.00. As was suggested above, you really do not need marine grade wire. I myself would also stay away from using booster cables. However Princes Auto does carry welding cable which is very flexible and has a thick casing. I would suggest you solder the ends to prevent the corrosion from travelling inside the wire. Another source for good quality wire would be a car stereo shop. I used this on my first boat and had no problems for over 10 years. My current boat with welding cable is at 5 years with no problems.
