  1. This team has lots of defensive talent. Komi is playing his best yet as a leaf, Phaneuf I think is overhyped (especially after that extremely lengthy introduction!), but he is undisputably a talented player, Kaberle, who looks like he finally learned what offensive means, Beauchemin has been playing the body a lot more. I hope they all have a great season, and I'll agree that Kaberle should go, but not for cheap. As for the O, so far their top line has outplayed checking lines and top O lines as well. The problem is, once they go off mistakes start to happen. I like Freddy Sju, but their checking line lacks a tough, gritty forward, like Maltby.
  2. Price has had a stellar start to his 2010-2011 Season. Did I mention today is opposite day?
  3. Vince Carter, Chris Bosh, Mats Sundin, you could learn a think from Roy. Not only is he the best pitcher in baseball, but he also has so much class as an athlete. He didn't puss out of playing in Toronto like the previously mentioned athletes have, and left the franchise fairly, hence why many baseball fans in southern ontario still pull for Roy now that he has moved on.
  4. C'mon, Brian Burke isn't THAT bad.
  5. Those fish look nice and clean, I probably would have fallen into the river seeing a nice unexpected brookie like that. Congrats!
  6. I know people that keep almost any size perch, but they are such a pain in the arse to clean, I don't know how they do it. I only keep 10-12"+, not because of taste, but because anything smaller is annoying to clean.
  7. I am so tempted to post on this guy's youtube account but I don't think its the best strategy. As Doc Sal already said, keeping this available on youtube = keeping evidence available for review. Posting some angry comment will just push him to take it down. As for confiscating cars, haha lets do the math. $10,000 - $15,000 (at least for an auto) vs. $20.00 for salmon at the supermarket. At least the salmon at Metro isn't full of mercury and other carcinogens and half rotten.
  8. Just to be clear, I hope this punk gets hit with every law possible. His arrogance, in posting the videos with such cockiness, is insulting. I always thought "Seize items related to an offence" meant seizing the rod, tackle, equipment ect.. never an actual car. That is AWSOME . Good for them. They should sell it so they can afford another CO for the next 6 months.
  9. Grats on that sweet lookin brown. I got my first brown this morning on a black stone fly nymph, but it was nowhere as nice at this one.
  10. Cars were confiscated by the MNR? I'm all for punishing these loogans but are you sure the MNR took their cars? That seems ridiculous to me.
  11. Nice browns and bows! I use that same spinner for bass then switch over to a river setup
  12. Awesome report, I look forward to more steelehead reports to come!
  13. Obviously when the son of a nigerian prince says he needs your help, you respond
  14. That rod should be rotating in a glass case at the corner of Yonge and Queen for Nuit Blanche because that is a work of art! very jealous
  15. They would invest $1,000,000 in a commission to investigate the prevalence of bridge related deer suicides. This will only be done if election season is coming up.
  16. Thanks for making this such an entertaining read Mike. Those are some great looking brookies and browns. Too bad a surprise rainbow didn't show up to complete the hat-trick . Congrats to your dad for his first brookie, I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to return. 6 months ago I wouldn't have understood what you mean here. Having checked off most of the above while beginning my resident trout quest this past summer, I can say you undersold these challenges by a mile! See you out there!
  17. Gorgeous fish, thanks for the teaser
  18. I have S/A fly line on. I'm new to the world of flies so my technical knowledge is limited, but I'm soaking up everything I can like a sponge. As far as I know, this line is unique because it has a very heavy head, more so than the average spey line. It only took 2 outtings to be able to fire this bad boy 50+ feet on a single overhead roll cast. I have only used the floating tip thus far (probably won't change it until next bass season) Here's a link to the line for more specific info. http://buy.scientificanglers.com/lines/spey-lines/classic-spey-taper-multi-tip-with-loops-dark-willow-orange-html.html It's weird not palming the reel and letting the reel's disk drag do the work, but the extra casting precision from two hands is neat, and the control with 2 hands is unlike any other.
  19. fantastic photo's Brandon. I can't imagine how it must feel to be out there in the wild working with these bears. Keep these amazing shots coming!
  20. Another fantastic day on the riverbank. I was ready to go 6AM sharp, or at least I thought it was 6AM. Turns out I accidentally switched AM to PM on my crackberry and the alarm that was set for 6AM didn't go off at all ! Good thing my excited nerves woke me up at 7, and I met up with my bud (better late than never!) Today we were hoping to find some active steelehead, but we knew it would be a challenge because we were fishing a stretch of river that 1) closes tomorrow, and 2) is a good distance up from the lake. Sure enough the heavy rains over the past few days kick started a few chromies, and I after switching to a black and orange nimph (the steele's and jacks were feeding heavily on nymphs) this guy slammed my line, and sprinted around the pool for a good 10 min. -First steelehead on my new spey rod (Thx DMASSE)! -First steelehead of 2010! Watching crimson leaves drift downstream can sure make you proud to be Canadian , Then the big "LOL" of the day... About 30 feet upstream of the pool we were fishing was a large rocky beach area. My friend and I were heard a loud SPLASH and THUD, and we jerked around to see what the commotion was about. To our surprise, a HUGE male chinny had beached itself on the shore, and was flopping around in about 1" of water. I'm all for natural selection, but I felt bad sitting back watching this beast die, so we rescued it and released him back to the deep water, but not before a quick pic!) (this fish was beached, not caught. It swam away right after the pic) All in all a fantastic day with a good friend. It was a relief to pop the cherry on my new rod, and it's a big confidence boost to make educated decisions about fly choice, and be rewarded with a target catch. More chrome reports to come!
  21. Great advice. Good quality gear can last you many seasons, even a lifetime. I would look at a good quality float rod, learn to use the longer rod (trust me, its awkward going from 6-7 footers to a 12 or 13'), and not complicate the learning process tooo much by pairing it with a float reel right off the bat. Don't get me wrong, float reels are fantastic, but learning to cast them effectively, (and not end up tangled and retying 75% of the time) is a whole new skill in itself. You can always build on your set up by adding a float reel. I actually know a few very effective steeleheaders that always bring a spinning reel spooled and ready (and put the float reel on the bench) to go for small spinners across big pools.
  22. They won't be able to afford dope and beer for much longer without work. On the other hand, a CAW union rep told me they would almost certainly get their jobs back... all they have to do is start talking about addiction, mental health, sickness, and the union will let the slither their way back in. I wonder what Obama has to say about this? As the video explains, he was at that very plant weeks before speaking about his faith in the american workforce.
  23. I have a president spinning reel that I use as my cottage bass setup and I love it. For 60$, you can't go wrong. I've never had a problem with it, it runs smoother after 2 years than my sahara.
  24. I go to the Old Mill every other day or so to check up on the run. 9 times out of 10 someone is fishing into the dam. I bet the MNR could make a killing just sitting out of sight on any given day.
  25. LMAO Thx for that!
