I'm still hunting the elusive crappie on Sturgeon Lake too. I know they are in here, but I haven't been able to find them in any numbers yet. Keep trying!

Keep us posted and let us know if we can help in any way! Fingers crossed, prayers said!

If it ain't broke don't touch it !!!!!! Actually there is very little that can go wrong with them, a fluid leak, but it will start acting up before it fails. and the pump, nothing there to service. (Inspect the wiring and make sure it is in good shape). My boat and motor are almost 20 years old so you have to expect a few little things to go wrong. In my case the problem was compounded by my lack of experience and the fact that I couldn't find anyone around here who knew anything about the Zuzuki.

Congratulations Rick! That was a wonderful thing you did! Been through the Alzheimers thing with both my mother-in-law and father-in-law, very sad thing.

There are a lot of IF's involved. You mentioned that you will be selling your house shortly, do you intend to live at the new place? Do you work in Peterborough and will you have to travel? We bought this place on Sturgeon lake both as an investment and because we wanted to live on the water but we spent 4 1/2 years looking and assessing what we wanted and needed. As others have said, waterfront property will never go down! I'm not going to try to type out all the little things we learned, but if you would like to give me a call or drop by for a visit I'd be happy to share some of that information with you. 705-328-0750 Cliff

What will they think of next? Is there anything in this world that is good for us and the environment?

I've alwys used mono up until last year and I decided to try a braid so I went with the power pro in the moss green (always looking for that "edge")! The line quality was excellent, but I believe that my catch ratio was down from using mono (mind you, I didn,t use a flurocarbon leader, I never use any kind of leader for walleye). I have learned over the years that even line size can make a huge difference when fishing walleye, if you want to prove it for your self, just put two guys in a boat, one with 4-6 lb test and the other with 10-12 lb test line and see who gets the most hits. This year I decided to try one of the flurocarbons (still looking for that edge) and settled on Berkley transition. Apparently invisable under water but changes to gold in the sun light so you can see it but the fish can't. I went with the six lb test because there are a lot of weeds in this lake and a 4lb just isn't strong enough when they try to run for cover, besides CTC didn't have a 4lb on the shelf or I might have tried it anyway. I don't think I'd go back to a braid again, not for the type of fishing I do anyway. Big Cliff

LOL, It's hard to say anything when you have hydraulic fluid all over your face

Well, it took me two days but I finally figured out how and (how not) to do it and got it working. Seems like my problem with the power trim is fixed. PS. DO NOT fill with the motor tilted up, this will over fill the unit and create a lot of pressure when you lower the motor. If you then remove the fill plug with the motor in the down position, you will have oil in your hair (and just about everywhere else). Also, DO NOT remove the release valve to drain the unit, if you do, you will probably loose a very small seal that fits in the very back of the release valve housing and without that seal, the power trim will not work at all. Once you find that tiny seal in the bottom of a pail of drained oil and floor sweepings the easiest way to re insatll it is by using a ball point pen to get it back into the valve base and a piece of weed eater cord to push it off of the pen and into the very back where it has to sit until you can replace the rest of the valve assy.

Ancient Remedy for allergy suffers to try....
Big Cliff replied to dsn's topic in General Discussion
google "honey allergies" You'll be amazed, I tried it and it works for me. -
I checked out the guy near Port Perry a few years ago, nice looking dogs, told me they were pure breeds but when I started asking for papers and pedigrees he started making excuses about how it would cost more and such. That's not a good sign, a lot of people claim "pure breed" when they are not. He also claimed to be CKC registered but the last time I drove past there I didn't notice it on his sign anymore. Please don't take this wrong, if you get a dog and love it, that is all that matters but if you are paying that kind of money for a dog, you should be getting what you are expecting. If whoever is selling you the dog can't supply copies of the pedigree of both the male & female and a witness to the mating and proof that the litter is registered.... Well, some one is making a lot of money for lying to you.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you since you won't be able to for a while. Good luck buddy!

Heck, when I saw the title of the thread "New Axe", I thought it was going to be about something useful like for splitting wood. That thing wouldn,t last one swing but I'll bet she'd burn good once you got her going! Looks like a nice toy!

Service manual for 1988, 55 HP Suzuki outboard
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Sinker, that is a very kind offer, I'm sure we'll hookup one way or the other. A very nice man at Buckeye marine was able to give me some advice on what to do, I'll give that a try in the next day or two and see if that resolves the problem. -
An accident is a detrimental event that occurs unexpectedly and unintentionally!!!!! This was detrimental in that two or more lives are being affected in a negitive way. I'm sure that it must have been unexpected not too many people go into the bush expecting to shoot their buddy in the face. I'll bet the man who got shot wasn't expecting it or he wouldn't have been there. If the shooter had intended to shoot his partner I would think that he could have done a better job then it would be murder or at least attempted murder. Accidents do happen, there can be many reasons but they do happen. Trying to point a finger or disect what transpired isn't going to accoplish anything right now, I'll form my opinion when the police have done their job. My thoughts right now are for both those men because regardless of the outcome they are both going to have to live with this accident for the rest of their lives.

Service manual for 1988, 55 HP Suzuki outboard
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Boy I didn't realize how little information was available on line regarding servicing power trim systems. I spent many hours on line trying to get anything that might help me but so far nada. Roy; I'd be willing to buy the service manual as long as I was sure the information on servicing/repairing the hydraulic portion of the power trim is in it. MTP, Thanks, even if I can just find out the proper procedure for draining, refilling, bleeding the system, that would be a big help. Sinker, You are right, Matt is a really nice guy but he is as much in the dark as I am. He has offered to look at it but that won't be for at least 3 more weeks and then who knows how long it might take for him to fix it, he is always so busy. I tried to get it into him last year but he just never had time. I'll keep trying! -
I need to find a service manual for a 1988, 55 HP Suzuki outboard Mod. 55TC, and in particular the power trim or detailed information on servicing the power trim. I've tried searching for one on Google but no luck so far, can anyone help me? Thanks Big Cliff

I am very sorry to hear of your loss but perhaps a celebration is in order anyway; celebrate his life and all the things he taught you that have helped to make you the man you are today and remember he will be with you in your heart forever. Congratulations on the 25 years, quite a milestone.

Well Beans, if you had been with me I wouldn't have gone, I had taken Justherb out but it was rough and he was getting cold and wet so I brought him back then headed over to Fenelon Falls. Anyway, it appears that the plastic nut that holds the livewell pump to the hull either failed or came undone because that is gone which let the pressure of the water force the pump back inside the hull, no plug I had in the boat would have fit in that hole although in a pinch I'm sure I'd have foind something to slow it down. Enthropy; Sturgeon lake in the Kawarthas and there weren't many other boats around if I'd had to bail out. Just ordered a new pump and should have it in by Friday. Glad to hear others are checking theirs before heading out, it is one of the few things I would think to check normally.

Your decision was based on compassion, good for you! I probably would have done the same thing although I might have added the warning that if it happened again I would feel obligated to advise the MNR. I think you made the right call under the circumstances.

Well, this weekend my son came down with his welder and gave me a hand repairing my marine railway and installing my dock. Took us most of the weekend but it is better than new. So yesterday after noon I decided it was time to take the boat out for a test run. ( Yes, I did remember the plug LOL) The lake was a little rough but I decide to swing by a friends place just to tease him a bit because I know his boat won't be in the water for a few weeks yet. I didn't pull right up to his dock because the water is quite low but sat just off shore and talked to him for about 5 minutes. As I started to leave I noticed that the boat felt sluggish, I thought perhaps I had picked up some weeds on the prop so I popped it into reverse and that's when I noticed all the water in the boat, it was up over the floor boards. Obviously I was taking on water at a very high rate. I turned on the bilge pump, and opened the throttle as the best I could and heaved a big sigh as the water started to receed. Fortunatly I have a marine railway and was able to get the boat into the cradle ( I might add that I probably set some sort of a record) and got the boat out of the water. Turns out that the water intake for my live well had broken (or come undone) I haven't had time to really assess what went wrong but suffice it to say I have a hole in my boat about 1.25" in Diameter). Could have been much worse though, I could have just tied up at my friends dock and gone in for a visit, or I could have had no way to get my boat out of the water. Fortunatly, all's well that ends well and I have a minor problem to fix. Now, I think I'll go buy a lottery ticket LOL!

I have checked out a few spots but haven't found them in any numbers yet, I have a few more that I want to try as soon as the season opens here. I know there are some big ones in here as I've caught a few over the the last year or so.
