Thanks guys! Much appreciated. I had thought that was the case but didn't want any last minute surprises at the border.

Morning all! Played the waiting game many times myself with Sue. The waiting is always the hardest part. take along some good fishing magazines.

Got to make a quick trip to the US on Thursday morning, I have my passport but my son does not, is there likely to be any problems getting across without his passport?

In my 62 years I have known many cops, drank with some, fished with others, played paintball with some, when I lived in French River the OPP detachment was quite small and you got to know the guys really well, they like the rest of us were people, they had good days and bad but they always conducted themselves in a professional manner (well at least when they were on duty LOL)...... Never in 62 years have I had a feeling of being intimidated, never have I been treated without respect, never have I been afraid for my safety. Mayby I was just lucky but I think it is more accurate to believe that while there are bad (just about everything) out there in the world the percentage of bad ones is very small. Unfortunatly one bad one gets a lot of press, a hundred good ones hardly ever get noticed. That old saying "do a hundred good things no one remembers, do one bad thing no one forgets". I couldn't be a cop for all the money in the world, they are accountable to everyone, you and me, SIU, IA, and working all the time never knowing if their next call is going to result in them having to fight for their life. Saddly we loose far too many every year while doing their jobs. I have nothing but respect for them (mayby that's why I don't feel intiminated or threatened, you think?) So lets stop bashing cops and just bash those few idiots that give cops a bad name.

Not that I know of for fact but I was told that their son is taking it over and has 'other" plans for it and does not intend to run it as a camp. You could check out Lunge Haven, I've never stayed there but I haven't heard any bad things about it other than there are a lot of weeds. The owners seem nice enough.

Sorry, but when a full grown man with a gun and a badge has to get physical with a kid to try and get respect he'll get no respect from me! There are better ways to handle it! This wasn't the first time this cop has been in trouble for similar actions, I can only wonder if there were more times that never got reported. When an adult beats up on a kid all it does is teach them that that's what adults do.... Good lesson! A simple solution might have been to take the skate board away and return it only when the kid and parent showed up at the police station to get it back and a promise to not ride it in a restricted area again. I would also remind him that if I caught him riding it in a restricted area again, the board would not be returned and if by-laws allowed for it he would be fined.

That guy is not a cop, he is a joke in a uniform and a disgrase to the profession! Suspended with pay? He should be charged with assault and his sorry .... fired.

Welcome to the board! It is getting harder and harder to find good spots to fish from shore, once word gets out that a spot is producing it usually ends up being so crowded that you can't fish it properly or people leave enough of a mess behind that the access gets closed down. It might help a bit if you give us an idea of where it is that you live/intend to fish. Do you drive? If I was fishing a new area from shore, I would probably get a map and a chart of the lake or river, look for streams entering, points of land with drop offs to deep water that come close to shore and that have public access. It really does depend on what you want to fish for, weather conditions, and time of the year. Dont pass something by without checking it out, that little stream in the golf course could easily hold some nice trout, as long as the water is flowing it doesn't need to be deep, they love to hide under the grass along the banks and can often be found in a few inches of water. One of the most productive pike lakes I know hardly ever gets fished because everyone drives right by it assuming that because it's small and right beside the road there probably aren't any fish in it. If they only knew LOL. As others have said, do a bit of home work, and exploring you should be able to get a list of stocked lakes from your local MNR office and most if not all of them should have public access.

yup, adjust the skid plates (but depending on how rough your driveway is you might have to set them a bit higher). Tapout, the skids are two plates on either side of the blower which can be adjusted to raise or lower the blower for paved or gravel driveways. They are held in place by two bolts. Tjsa has a good idea, you should probably pick up one of the socket kits at CTC next time thay are on special.

Art, we don't have anywhere else to put it, we have to ship it South. -
douG, are you serious about putting a cell phone in a microwave? I put a jar in the microwave last week that had a tiny bit of foil still on the rim and you wouldn't believe the light show and noise. Wouldn't the metal in the cell phone cause the same thing?

I'd love to join you Moe but I have to work at the CSAAA show all day Saturday & Sunday and will be spending Saturday night in Toronto. If you do get out, good luck.

Peter, I live on Snug Harbour Rd. 3.1 km in from 36, 313 Snug Harbour Rd. 705-328-0750. From the sound of it you were at Lunge Haven. yes they are nice people but there is a ton of weeds and mud in that area. If you continue down Snug Harbour Rd about 2 km there is a marina there called the Mourings, good ramp and I am 4 doors West of them You'll still get some weeds but that's where the fish are. Hook up with me this spring and I'll be happy to help you get started on this lake. I think I can help you change your impression.
-
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Sturgeon Lake, yes, there are some areas where there are weeds and mud. What marina were you keeping your boat at? Sturgeon Lake has some excellent fishing but like any other body of water it takes time to learn what, where, and when to get results. It's true there was a carp die off this year, first time it has ever happened and it wasn't very nice but some times things like that do happen. In the six years I have lived here this was the first time anything like this has happened. I hope you won't let one bad experience ruin your impression of the lake and would be happy to show you around this summer if you do decide to give it another try. I won't promise you'll catch your limit but I can help you figure out where there are fish and perhaps we can even explore some new spots, I'm always learning new things and places every time I go out. It's a big lake with lots of good water and plenty of fish!

poacher gets provincial deer-count contract
Big Cliff replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
The word 'kickback" immediatly springs to mind here. According to their logic if a convicted bank robber bids on a contract to assess the security of banks and his is the lowest bid, he would get the contract. kind of sounds like having a fox to guard the hen house. Now this guy can do whatever he pleases and his excuse is "I'm only trying to do the job I have been contracted to do! What a farce! -
LOL, well I'm not sure that I'm and expert. X usually = an unknown and a spurt is just a drip under pressure. I'll look forward to hearing from you!

If you really want to use a scent on your lures and bait, try cod liver oil. No CFC to worry about, all natural, and Bigchev4X4 is right, scents do put more fish in the boat!

Welcome to the board, you couldn't have come to a better place to get help and answers. When you do come to Sturgeon Lake, look me up and I'll give you the grand tour.

Floater suit repair - suggestions needed NF
Big Cliff replied to tinbanger's topic in General Discussion
How are you going to hold the patch in place if you don't use rivits? -
Actually I did find a couple of new spots this summer and would be glad to share them with you!
-
Well, if you decide on Sturgeon Lake, I can help you out with charts, spots, (might even share a GPS spot or two if you ask nice LOL) and depending on when it is in July I might even be able to spend a bit of time showing you a few spots. I don't fish muskie but catch a lot of them when fishing walleye and we have a pretty good bass population here too. Anyway, let me know! Cliff

When we bought this place we decided we didn't want to go the "home inspector" route. Instead we got a Septic Tank pumping company to pump and inspect the tank. $125.00. A well drilling company come in and do a flow and recovery on our well and inspect our pump and lines. $65.00. The oil company come in and inspect the furnace and tank and make sure they were in good and proper working order. $85.00 including servicing them. And we had an electrician come in and inspect our panel and wiring and give us a quote on upgrading the panel. He ended up not charging us anything because we got him to upgrade the panel and when we did our renovations we got him to do all the wiring too. Oh, and we hired a guy that does chimny cleaning to come and clean and inspect the fire place and chimny, $85.00 and that included cleaning everything. The windows, insulation and everything else I did myself, I just took it one room at a time, took lots of pictures, and made notes of anything I wasn't sure of. All in all it cost us a lot less than a "home inspector" would have charged, we got everything done by the proper trades people, and we knew that everything was serviced and working properly so in the end it cost us a lot less than using an inspector who might have told us what was wrong but then we still would have had to pay to get it fixed. When we sold our house in Milton the buyers brought in a home inspector, he tried to nit pick at everything and didn't have a clue what he was really doing. He told them that one wall they wanted to remove wasn't a load bearing wall, after buying the house they removed it (not a pretty sight). He insisted that the door leading from our kitchen to the garage HAD to be a steel door to meet code. I had to get a letter from the planning Dept. and the fire dept. showing that it did not have to be a steel door, just an exterior grade door with a self closer on it. Same thing with a window in our kitchen that looked out into what once a carport but I had closed in to make a garage. He insisted that the window had to be removed as it was not allowed by code. Again he was wrong, it was an exterior grade window and quite acceptable. All in all he sugested that the modifications would cost about $3000.00 and the buyer wanted me to pay for them....NOT, I finally agreed to pay $400.00 to have an electrician rewire all the outlets upstairs because they were done with aluminum wire, showed him the letters from the planning dept. and fire dept. and told him that if he didn't want the house, someone else would. They bought the house!

It's always nice to see new members joining the board, welcome! Can't help you much with that type of fishing because I usually target walleye, perch and crappie but you have just gotten some replies from people that really know their stuff. Keep the posts coming and we love pictures!
