Don't know if this applies to any of you but thought it would be worth posting even from a safety stand point. More information:

We usually have ice out here by April 15 but I think it might be a bit later this year as temps have remained well below normal for the last few weeks. There is a lot of open water at any if the places that feed into the lake, Fenelon Falls and the Scugog River but out in front of my place there is still at least 18" of solid ice. Anyway Happy Spring everyone!

I tried retirement, hated it! I have worked full time since I was 15 years old but in 2003 I got a very nice offer for my business and Sue and I decided, why not? So I sold it. The first year or so was OK, I had lots of stuff to do and I kept myself busy, did plenty of fishing and hunting but still couldn't get used to not having a job to go to. Finally I decided to get back into the work force and to be honest, I loved it, I enjoyed the work and the people and the satisfaction of seeing something build and grow. Last year there were a few changes in my life and it gave me an opportunity to think about what I really enjoy doing. Well, I am now serving my apprenticeship as a small engine mechanic and I have never been happier. It keeps my mind active and my hands busy and every time I take something that is broken and I fix it I feel like I have really accomplished something. The money isn't the greatest but I'm not in it for the money, in fact, most of the work I do here at home for people is for just enough to cover the cost of the parts, someties I'll add $5.00 or so to cover consumables but that's about it. I guess in a sense I am still really retired because I am just doing what I love to do and I can still fish and hunt almost anytime I want to. Works for me anyway!

Well, if I had a fishing partner that looked like thet I'll bet my wife would get a lot more interested in fishing all of a sudden!

You might try checking with the O.F.A.H., I know it is a little more than 30 minutes from the GTA but the experience would be worth it.

Had My Car Stolen From My Work Today !!!
Big Cliff replied to fishindevil's topic in General Discussion
Sorry to hear about your car, even if you do get it back it is really inconvenient to say the least. Sure sounds like who ever did it had a lot of inside information though. How would they know where you kept your keys? Even if they lucked out and just found the keys, how could they have known which car they fit or where to find it parked? How could they have known about the two minute window with the camera so they could get the car without being spotted. Are these things that most students could have known? BTW, what is your plate # I'll keep an eye out around here. -
Actually, I believe it is 11" but I doubt it would go through more than that in snow, with a flat bottom I would suspect it would get hung up unless you had the drive tracks on the back then it would probably handle just about anything.

My son lives in Noelville and if I am not mistaken he was telling me that there are (or will soon be) new towers covering that area and providing much better coverage.

Can't help you with the fishing there but welcome to the board anyway!

I mostly target walleye, I prefer to use light line, light tackle and a very sensitive rod. There are times however when conditions require heaver line and tackle and I'll switch up to a heavier action rod but I still prefer a sensitive tip. When I do fish for bass I usually use heavier line and tackle and prefer a rod with a good solid backbone. I almost always have at least 4 rods in the boat at any given time and have about 4 more to choose from before heading out. Where you fish, the time of year, and the conditions can really dictate what you need to use but being able to feel what is hapening is key to successfuly putting walleye in the boat on a consistant basis.

Where the Scugog River runs into Sturgeon Lake is now open water, there were sleds crossing there two days ago. Be careful, conditions are changing fast!

I was just in at CTC in Lindsay and they don't have any of those augers left that were on special but if you go to the Customer Service Desk in the sporting goods dept. they will give you the last sale price they had on any of the other gas augers that they do still have in stock. They had at least 6 when I was in there. 4 were Jiffy 30s, One Eskimo, and one brand I have never heard of.

Thank you very much Jack, very kind of you and I might just take you up on your offer. We'll see how this week goes. My son and daughter-in-law might be coming down for the weekend so problem might be solved. I'll let you know.

My New truck almost swam with the whitefish ... ALMOST
Big Cliff replied to cityfisher's topic in General Discussion
Hundreds make it and no one even blinks an eye, one has a mishap and it's like flies on ......! go figure! Oh and Stoty; there is a big difference between sympathy & empathy! Don't confuse them. -
Guelph Lake would be worth a try, I use to do quite well there when I lived down in Milton.

Well, I'm really glad to hear you got it out, too bad someone took advantage of your situation to charge you a lot of money. Some people are just like that. Most important thing is that no one was hurt and there wasn't more damage. I do occasionally take my SUV out on the ice but I have to admit I'm always nervous, you just never know when a crack will open up or you will find someones ice hut hole that has been covered over by snow. -
Oh well, looks like I am going to be busy painting for a few days. Actually i finished the kitchen and dining room yesterday (only took me three days) and it didn't turn out too bad. Going to start the living room today, the list is getting shorter LOL.
