I have a 55 Suzuki and do a lot of fishing in the evening and until after dark. According to my manual it can be started manually in an emergency but after reading what was involved I wouldn't want to have to do it! Last year a couple of friends gave me a nice little portable power supply/booster, ever since I got it, I take it in the boat with me, in fact, during fishing season it stays in the boat, doesn't take up much room, fits easily into my storage locker. It can be charged from an AC outlet or a DC source and about once a month I plug it in just to make sure it's topped up. This thing has plenty of power to start an outboard, in fact I used it to boost a friends big V8 truck last winter. He had to turn off all his accessories mind you but it turned it over and started it in cold weather. I think they got it on special at CTC for about $39.00 bucks and it even has a built in inverter to give you AC if you did need it, it I won't go out in my boat without it any more, day or night, it's part of my safety gear.

Build a deck or an addition or an extension without the proper permits and you might get away with it for now but when you go to sell the place down the road and the purchaser wants a survey you could find yourself in a whole lot of trouble, I.E. you could be fined and made to remove the structure. We had a problem in Milton because I closed in one side of a car port and put a garage door on the one end. It was no longer considered a car port, they now considered it a garage which I didn't have a permit for. Then, because there was a door out to the car port and a window in that wall changes had to be made to the door and window so that they would meet code.... the list goes on! I don't even want to go into all the problems I had getting a permit after the fact and my wife worked for the planning Dept. and the inspector was a friend. I would never buy a place without getting a survey and I'd much rather go through the hassel of getting a permit now than trying to get one later and getting it denied.

NF Lowering the flag above the Peace tower.
Big Cliff replied to holdfast's topic in General Discussion
My flag flies tall and proud 365 days a year in honor of every Canadian service person! The only exception is on Nov. 11 when it is lowered to 1/2 mast to show respect for those who have given their lives so that Canada can be the country it is today; oh, and when it needs to be replaced. I can assure you it won't be getting lowered for any politician or individual. -
I will say that after running my own business for 20 some years there were a few times where I bit the bullet so to speak and it always came back to me in spades. Good will can do a lot for your reputation and be a good investment in the future! I don't really think it matters much what anyone else would do, you have to do what feels right to you.

Excellent report and nice pics. I got out and tried several spots yesterday but no luck for me, well, I did set a new personal best but trees don't count for much LOL. It was still nice to get out and a beautiful day with some excellent company!

Well, the tribs are a good place to start, just visit a few of them and look for anglers, watch, and ask questions. You could also try contacting MNR and get a list of all the stocked lakes and streams, that and a good map will give you plenty of opportunities and get you heading in the right direction.

All the very best to you young lady!

All the above areas are good but learning how to fish them can take some time. I mostly fish the same areas as Sinker as that is where I live, Snug Harbour. I don't fish musky but catch quite a few every year while fishing walleye so I can't really help you much there. If you want to drop by some time I can sit down with you and a chart and give you what help I can. Might even be able to show you a spot or two and give you some ideas of how to fish them.

Very sad news. I don't know how to do it but could we do an auction or something to help out with everything donated going to the fund? I have a nice print I would be willing to donate and could probably come up with a few more items.

You guys have to stop this, I'm getting tired of cleaning the coffee off my computer LOL

You should still be able to power it through your pannel, just make sure that all the breakers (inclufing main are turned off except yjr one that connects to the outlet you plug the generator into and the one for the pump, the generator will feed power back into the pannel and any other breakers that are closed. No need to run any extension cords.

Excellent point Chris, I hadn't even thought of the issues with feedback, you could even end up providing your neighbours with power if your main breaker wasn't opened and you had your generator running not to mention giving some poor hydro worker quite a shock.

Beautiful, just beautiful!

Well, why don't we start with a tachometer or a vaccuum/pressure gauge for starters, fine tuning the carb is best done with a tachometer, that's why the manufactures specify rpms, too lean, engine over revs. = burn out the engine. Too rich, engine and exhaust carbon up = engine over heats. It can also be benificial in finding problems and adjusting the governer. Vaccuum/pressure gauge can help you pinpoint and identify problems in the fuel system, plugged fuel vent, air leaks, needle valve lift off...... Well, to be honest with you, you don't need any of those tools, I see engines in the shop every day that someone has fixed themselves. I have probably invested all this money and time in equipment and learning how to and becoming certified on small engine repairs because it gives me something to do when I'm not fishing LOL. Anyway, I don't charge any OFNr anything for labour, just parts and a cold one (or a coffee as the case may be) and a buck or two for consumables i.e. carb cleaner so those that would rather do it themselves are welcome to but I do like to take care of my friends and when I do it, I like to do it right (or at least as best I can). So, to answer your question; No, no special tools are required!

Yup "it was running perfectly, in fact it never ran better, I just did a tune up on it then it just quit and now it won't start", "I'm sure it's nothing serious." LOL Jack still haven't seen your email did you use our new email address: [email protected]

~~Greencoachdog is getting old real fast

Ah crap, coffee out nose and all over the keyboard again! -
jiggz; First, I want you to know that we all really appreciate it when new members try to get involved and help and all opinions are very much appreciated. Please don't take this as anything personal but: IMHO anyone playing around with a carb without the tools to adjust it properly is just asking for trouble. With the new carbs today desigined to meet the tight immision standards the tollerances are very critical, adjust it too lean and you will burn the engine (fast), too rich and it might run but will carbon it up and could cause the ring to seize, the plug to foul, the spark arrestor to plug..... well, I would go on but I'd end up having to give a course in small engine repair LOL. Gone are the days when you can tune an engine by ear and be sure you are getting the optimum performance. Just ask my wife how much I spend on tools LOL.

Well, I usually only work on small engines but depending on the failure annalsys if the top end failure was caused by leaning out (piston and ring(s) scored or seized, I would sure be looking at the lower end seals, crank or crank case. Air leaks are the number one cause followed by running with improper carb settings or an air leak in the intake. Your question is a good one but hard to answer without knowing more about what caused the failure in the first place. Give me more information, what size motor, 2 or 4 stroke, symptoms pior to failure.
