  1. Thanks! I'll let you know what I find tomorrow. As far as sitting in my tree stand, might be able to work something out there, I only ever use it for 2 or 3 days a year LOL. PS Still got a bunch of stuff here for you. My nephew might be coming over here this weekend, they live in Barrie. If you would like I could send a package over with them for you.
  2. Beans and I got nailed for "no helmits" two years ago on Simco, $65.00 each. I thought that was a bit unfair, we weren't going any faster than a man could walk but, the law is the law so we paid our fines and learned our lesson.
  3. You got that right Bernie, both he and his wife are super people and run a first class operation! In fact I have never been treated so well by any outfitter I have ever used!
  4. Want to come live at my place? Free rent, you cook!
  5. Ya, the only insurance I'm not big on is "life insurance" (I'm not in a hurry to make a claim on it even if the rates don't go up) !If I ever have to use it I haven't figured out how I can still be around to collect it LOL!
  6. I have had boat insurance since I had my first boat and wouldn't have it any other way. If it gets stolen; covered! Catches fire; covered! Hit a rock; covered! Insurance is just that, you hope you never have to use it but if you ever do it sure is nice to have it.
  7. Well, I sure appreciate the review. So many of us only have the opportunity to take one trip like this a year and to have it wasted by an operator who doesn't give a ..... really isn't fair! I have only ever had the pleasure of dealing with one operator on Nippissing and believe me it was a pleasure, the service was fantastic, the prices fair, the accomodations couldn't have been better. I would love to go back there again for a weekend or better yet (for me anyway during the week). Anglers Haven Anyone else ever used them? Your comments?
  8. We don't have a Sobeys here in Lindsay but we do have a Food Basics so I'll be checking in there tomorrow. When I was in the army we had a lot of guys from down East in our outfit and they often talked about "boiled dinners", "salt beef", and a lot of other things that sounded so good. Sue and I have always wanted to spend a few months visiting but have never had the chance but perhaps with a bit of help I can experience the fine dining Anyone can tell from looking at me that I love to eat LOL!
  9. Tom, I'd be happy to bail you out but I'd probably be sitting right there beside you going "Darn that was fun!"
  10. Thanks, glad to hear that things are going so well! We are all excited about getting out with you! Big Cliff
  11. Thanks Adrianne, much appreciated! Anything much more than the basics on these things and I get lost easily! Guess I'll have to try and phone him or something because for some reason he doesn't seem to be getting our PMs or perhaps he is just getting so many that ours have been getting lost.
  12. Glad to hear that all went well and you are right, they don't come much better than C & C! Keep well and fish more!
  13. For the last few weeks we have been trying to confirm a date for our channel cat charter and in spite of a number of PM's and suggested dates we can't seem to get a response. Is he on holidays or having computer problems does anyone know? We need to get a date confirmed so we can book holidays and stuff.
  14. If I had meals like that being put in front of me they wouldn't be calling me Big Cliff anymore. That looks and sounds so good! Where do you get the pails of salt beaf in this part of the country? I don't think I have ever seen it in any of our grocery stores or butcher shops? I have often heard about "salt beaf dinners" got to try it one of these days. Thanks for sharing that with us!
  15. I don't know if this will help you or not but. We just recently got new cell phones and we ended up going with Virgin Mobile for a number of reasons: The price was right (it actually saves us about $500.00/ year from the package we were on with Bell) The service is exceptional (and they speak English) No activation fee No System Access Fee Free call waiting, call display, and call forwarding. They use the Bell Network so coverage is as good as Bell. And we were able to get exactly the plan that we wanted. Here is a link to their site. Hope it helps!
  16. When I was younger and lived in French River and Elliott Lake, we didn't care how cold it was, I can remember many ice fishing trips where we would build a fire on shore so we could warm up between catching fish. Mind you we were often fishing within 100' or so of the shore and most of the areas were somewhat sheltered from the wind. Very different from fishing down here. Now, I guess because of my age, I find I have to kind of pick and choose, -10 with no wind and the sun shining = a good day for me, -10 and no sun; I would probably want a hut or some place to warm up.
  17. I wouldn't expect anything less of you Jeff, that is just the kind of person you are! last person I stopped to help out of the snow bank was so drunk he could hardly talk so I very kindly called the OPP and they took care of everything, gave him a ride, got his car towed for him. It was nice to see him so well taken care of!
  18. Thanks people! Joey I will miss your smile, oh how I have enjoyed seeing that! I remember when there was a time I wasn't sure I would. One of the happiest days of my life was when I did get to see it again! (Oh, and the hugs from all the beautiful ladies that attend, I do kind of like them ) Art, I have never been the head of the train, Moe has always, and will always be! I was mearly a car in the train but was always proud to be! I truly hope that this will be the only year I miss as long as this event takes place! This is such a special event, for such a wonderful cause, organized by one of the most giving people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will be back in what ever role I can fill in the years to come! In the meantime; Moe, Tyler, and I need your help, it would make me feel so much better if I knew that someone was there to take my place, I guess I kind of feel guilty in that I can't be there.
  19. I might be able to find one for you but on a cold night like this wouldn't you prefer a hot chocolat or a coffee? Anyway, if the lights are on, we are up and you would be most welcome anytime.
  20. OK, this is one that I don't usually share with anyone other than at our dinner table. The history is simple; we were out for dinner one evening at a "Fine Dining" place and one of the things on the menu was a "cream of garlic soup". Everyone that tried it loved it so I being me, decided "I can make this" (Famous last words)LOL. Anyway, it took me a while but here is my version of it and I haven't had many complaints; I hope you enjoy: Take 4 or 5 Buds (no not cloves) of garlic, peal off the outer (loose skin) Cut off about 1/4 of an " off the top of the bud. (I save all the little pieces of garlic that I can out of the tops and throw them into the sauce pan later) Place them upright in a baking dish and drizzle with about 2 tbs of olive oil over the tops. preheat oven to 350F and bake for about 1 hr until golden brown. Remove and let cool. When the garlic is cool enough to handle; press the individual garlic cloves between the thumb and finger to squeeze out the garlic. In a large sauce pan: combine the garlic, 2 1/2 cups chicken broth and 1 cup of white wine. Bring it to a boil then reduce heat and simmer about 30 minutes. Then stir in 2 1/2 cups whole milk, 1 cup heavy whipping cream, and 1/2 cup pealed and cubed potatoes (salt and pepper to taste) and simmer another 30 minutes. Puree soup in a blender, return to sauce pan adjust salt and pepper, and simmer. Ladel into bowls and serve with buttered French bread. Now, if you want the most decadent seafood chowder, just add about 1 cup small salid shrimp and 1 cup baby scalops after pureeing and just simmer long enough to JUST cook the scalops. (You could use any fish cut into cubes). Enjoy!
  21. Since Moe started the "Fishing for Tyler" event I have always been so proud to be able to do my little part in the event by working the food table with some wonderful people. This year I have to step aside and let someone else fill my spot. Stupid as this sounds I am very sad that I can't be there as this was always such an honor for me. It is what I looked forward to at the first sign of hard water and always made winter seem so short. Perhaps by next year things will be different and I can once again help out at the food table, I truly hope so! Big Cliff
  22. I think John has the best solution! Oh and John, if you want to get her out of bed earlier; just roll over and ask if she wants to fool around for a bit or does she have to get out there and start the car right away?
  23. I have had Garmin units since GPS units first came out and have always been satisified with them but this one is way beyond any that I have ever owned. His thought on it is: Get a good one now and it will last for years but I am hoping to get some feedback/ opinions on the featurs. He intends to use it for hunting/fishing/and in his car.
  24. Can't go wrong with those Rachel Ray ones!
  25. Well, since so many "Mechanics" want to know why there is so much water in the oil; Well, in the course I just finished in failure analsys one of the questions on the test was "how much water is produced from burning 1 gal of gas in a standard internal combustion engine. The answer: Approx. 1 gal of water. (I got 100% on that test) If the engine can't get up to operating temperature the water can not becarried away by the exhaust system. So, to all you "mechanics" who think there "MUST" be some leak somewhere, sorry but I'll side with Bernie on this one. For those that want to figure it out for yourselves; here is the formula 2C8H18 + 25O2 = 16CO2 + 18H2O
