Boy would I love to get into a day of smelt fishing like that! Beautiful!!!!!!!

I don't have one of those units but I do have an FL8SE and to be honest I wouldn't go ice fishing without one again. In fact I'm thinking of putting it in my boat this summer for when I'm still fishing.

Anyone want to join Beans and I on Lake X on Monday? Sure looks like a perfect day for it, light winds, sun, +2.

Should I sell it on Ebay or to a dealer?
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Many thanks for the input! I'm not sure which way I am going to handle this yet but this stuff has been sitting around for a long time without ever even being looked at. Time to do some spring cleaning me thinks. -
Every time one door closes, another one opens and a new opportunity presents itself! Good luck in your job search and contact HH!

Sue and I were going through a bunch of our old stuff part of wich included a box of old coins and stuff. I have done some research on line and some of this stuff looks like it could be worth a lot of money ie. a Bermuda one pound note that could be worth up to about $500.00. There is a lot more stuff, some very old medals (a 1913 Railroad Brotherhood invitational?????) Not sure if it is worth anything or not. Some proof coin sets and a bunch of fairly old coins. The question: Would I be better to sit here and try to establish a value on each of these pieces then post them on Ebay and try to sell them that way, or just take this whole box of stuff to a dealer and hope that I get a fair price for what I have? If it is to a dealer, anyone have any suggestions (North/East) of Toronto would be preferable.

Small Engine Technician (Mechanic) working full time for a Rental Co. in the Kawarthas + running my own shop on a part time basis (which is now almost a full time job). I am going to cut back to 6 days a week this year and get some fishing time in.

Had both; sold sled! The ATV is much more usable 90% of the time. Slush can be a problem out on the lakes but get a sled stuck in the slush.... Not fun! As long as you don't get the ATV hung up they will dig their way through a lot of stuff.

Very sorry for you and you're families loss Lew. Our condolences to you and the family.

Boy, and I thought we had it rough. But did you get any fish? Hadn't read your reply to my thread when I posted here.

First congratulations! Second, give me a call when you get settled in and I'll show you plenty of places to fish in the area. 328-0750

Well, Beans, Photoz, and I headed off to the beautiful lake X bright and early this morning. I took one look at the road access and decided thet even with 4WD, I wasn't going to try driving out onto the lake so we loaded up our toboggans and started walking. There was a sled/ATV trail and that wasn't too bad for walking but to get where we wanted to fish, we had to leave the trail; as Steve said in an other thread, snow and slush didn't make the walking very pleasent for us older fellows. Fortunatly, we didn't have to go too far off the trail and we shoveled away some snow and drilled our holes. Even though the temperature was milder than it has been for quite a while, the breeze soon picked up and made it feel a lot colder than it really was, none the less we had come to fish and fish we did. This was my first experience using a Vexilar and Steve was wonderful at showing me how to set it up and understand what I was seeing. I have to say I am impressed! Shortly after getting set up I saw something come into range suspended at about 12' (we were fishing in 28FOW), I quickly reeled up to slightly above it and watched as it rose up to my bait. I didn't even feel a bite, just lifted my bait, felt some weight, and set the hook. That was my one and only fish of the day but without the Vexilar, I wouldn't heve even known there was a fish in the area. I did mark a lot more fish but by now the cooler air seemed to be moving in and the fish refused to hit anything we presented. Anyway, a special thanks to Steve for giving me such a wonderful deal on the unit, it looks like it had never been used, and for showing me how to use it. Here are a few photos of the day. Beans and Steve chatting and watching their lines. Notice how grey the sky is! Steve with his new FL20, Nice unit! I have no idea what Beans was going on about here LOL. And finally, my one and only fish of the day! The catching was slow but the Fishing, as always was wonderful!

Saddly, you aren't alone my friend, we found ourselves in a similar situation. So many people kept telling us "go mutual funds" do it through the bank, they are managed by professionals, you will make a lot more money than in GICs. Well, we all know what happened to mutual funds! Many people have the attitude that "it is only on paper" (our losses) that you haven't really lost anything until you sell; well, I now have 30% less than I had when I started, in my books, I have lost 30% of my working capital and so have you. What is the right thing to do? Well, I bailed, put my money into term deposits. I don't have a mortgage to worry about but if I did, I would sure be paying that down as fast as I could, the banks will never pay you as much for your investments as they will charge you for a loan. Less mortgage = more equity in your home and you can't get a much better investment than that.

After being an employer for many years I always appreciated (and kept confidential) any honest referances that I got from former employers. Being a smaller company a "bad hire" could cost us a lot of money, money that we couldn't afford. I was always very careful when phoning for referances to explain; who I was, that no written record was being kept of this conversation and that it would never be shared with anyone outside of this conversation, I would outline the job description, duties, and responsibilities then ask if they thought the person being considered would be an ideal candidate for such a position. Their response wasn't as important as their atitude in responding. When being called for referances I would only confirm that the person had worked with us, if they were a really good employee and left for a valid reason I would always mention that to the caller and indicate that if they were to ever want to return we would do our best to re hire them. If they were not a good emplyee I would simply state that I really couldn't stay anything more for legal/privacy reasons and fear of reprecussions. That usually got the message across loud and clear.

Glad to hear you are back on the road to recovery Rick, just keep following that road and you'll be fine! Nice to see you posting again.

I always love it when I do get the chance to drop by your place for a visit and see your beautiful work in person. It is truly amazing!

When I see good reports about outfitters or products from people I know and trust, I believe them. When I see bad reports about outfitters or products from people I know and trust, I believe them too. If I am unsure of the source of the information, I investigate and them make my own decision. In this case, I can assure you that if I was booking a trip up there for a weekend, I wouldn't be taking a chance on this outfitter. If after all of the reports on here you want to then by all means go for it and we'd love to see your report and pictures, simple as that!

Many thanks for all the responses and feed back. Based on the information you have provided he has decided to gow with two seperate units! The right tool for the right job! Much appreciated.

Well, first of all I applaude Mr Mackie for standing up and fighting for what he believes in. Just because there is a law on the books that says you "can't" doesn't mean it shouldn't be changed. Heck there is still a law on the books that says "you can't drag a dead hourse down Young Street on a Sunday" (I assume any other day of the week is fine). There are protests going on all over this country about all kinds of things, as far as I can tell this one is going by the books, I hope Mr. Mackie wins, I only met him once but he seemed like a nice enough fellow.
