  1. We used Anglers Haven in the past and were very pleased with them, huts were beautiful, service was excellent! I would go back there anytime.
  2. I went through a very similar situation, Sue and I both had cell phones and I was paying Bell about $60.00 a month but we hardly used the phones, they were mostly for emergencies. There were just a couple of months left on our contract when I decided I wanted out of it; $400. early cancelation fee.It was cheaper to just keep the phones to the end of the contract. As soon as we got out of the contract I called Virgin Mobile, they use the bell network so you get the same service coverage. I bought two phones, from them, $50.00 ea and they gave me back $35.00 worth of service on each of them. On top of that I bought $100.00 worth of air time, good for a year and at the end of the year any un used air time is carried forward. I set it up for automatic top up so I never worry about running out of air time. And instead of paying Bell about $700.00 a year I now pay $200.00. Dealing with Virgin Mobile has been wonderful, nice friendly English speaking people with a good sense of humor. One of my phones got damaged a while back (actually Sue washed it when she heard me give my phone number to another woman). Walked into Walmart, $48.00 for a brand new Samsung camera phone and 10 minutes on the phone with Virgin Mobile and I was good to go again.
  3. Looks like a good catch Bruce, I'll be down as soon as the ice is safe again.
  4. Not doing much better over here either Beans, got two small perch yesterday and one walleye.
  5. For the most part light or very light snow covered, there might be the odd drift 6" deep but that would be it. I took some flying lessons when I lived in Elliott Lake on a little Piper P 12 with floats so Iknow they can come in quiet, I guess my delima is; if he was in trouble I would have done anything to help! But I couldn't figure out how to tell. Would the Lindsay Airport (closest one to us) have been able to tell me if I had called them Wayne?
  6. Yesterday afternoon, just as the sun was setting Sue noticed a small plane loosing altitude over the lake and called me. It looked to me like they were coming in for a controled landing but there was no noise at all and I wondered if he might be in trouble. It was dark enough that I couldn't see if the plane had skis on it or not and he was about a mile away from us so I watched until I saw him mere feet above the lake and then he was out of site over near Long Beach. I had thought about jumping on my ATV and going over there to make sure they were OK but by the time I'd have gotten on the lake it would have been dark and I'm not sure what I could have done to help or if they were even in trouble and they would have been only a 1/4 mile from shore and help anyway. In hind site I feel bad that I didn't go and check on them just in case. My question is: Who could I have called to see if there was an aircraft in trouble?
  7. My first boat back in 1975 came with a flasher, it was fantastic but then came the LCD units so I "up graded" it was newer, so it had to be better right? Well, in hindsight maybe not but it looked more impressive. To be honest the flasher did a better job. I got a flasher about two years ago and last year bought a new boat and had to have the latest equipment on it. (not the flasher). I will tell you I trust the flasher more to show me what is really happening!
  8. When did the bounty come into effect? I was under the impression there wasn't one.
  9. I just put a tie wrap arounf the cable and the hole near the tail. Camera points straight down so you can see what direction fish are coming in from etc. Works perfect for me and I like to have the camera suspended above my bait.
  10. Man, I'll second that! I have made a lot of mistakes in my life but the biggest mistake I ever made was getting out of the army when my stretch was up. If I could do it all over again, I'd join again at 18 and have retired when I had to.
  11. What? You don't like dealing with Bell India? If I could I would never deal with them again. I tried getting out of a contract that I didn't even agree to. It was going to cost me more to get out of it than to keep it. I ended up keeping it then they tried to tell me I hadn't given them 30 days notice. I took one for the team but they lost a customer for life! Hope that was worth their $30.00. Good luck, hope you find a way out that doesn't cost you too much. Actually I got back at them in a way. I found out that you are allowed to have up to 6 receivers on your account at no extra charge so I rented some space from each of my kids and put a Bell receiver in each of their homes/my space. Kids love it, and I get to watch TV when ever I go and stay at my places up North. We need a one finger smiley face icon on here just for Bell!
  12. Ok, a few questions: Why do you want to get into this particular trade? Are you still in school and if so what grade? You'll need at least grade 12 to get into an apprenticeship. If you have work experience, what is it? There are several ways to go about it depending on what you have done or are doing right now. You might qualify for a "job connect program" where a perspective employer can get up to about 4 months of your wages covered but I'd need to know more. You can PM or email me if you would like or even phone me 705-328-0577
  13. Much too far away for my little camera, I have a 45X spotting scope that I used to watch them but can't hook my camera up to it.
  14. LOL, at about 3/4 of a mile away with houses all along the far shore the 270 might be a good idea but a tad dangerous. Unless they bother me or my family I'll let them live, they are just another one of God's creatures trying to survive. A nusance sometimes but so are the grandkids and I haven't shot any of them yet.
  15. This is the first year I have seen so many coyotes out on the lake. Right in broad daylight, the other day it was two of them way out and we watched them for about half an hour as they made their way down the middle of the lake and finally onto the far shore near Betty's bay. The following morning another one, much the same path, 8:30 in the morning not in a hurry, ended up going to shore in much the same area as the other two. Then just a few minutes ago 4 more, they seemed to be checking out an area where some people were fishing on the weekend, perhaps trying to scrounge a few minnows or something that was left behind. They all seemed to be in really good shape, no sign of mange. Beautiful to see but it really makes you wonder what the population must be like in this area and what kind of damage they must be doing to the small game.
  16. Ok, Ok so I should have read it instead of trying to understand it. My bad!
  17. There are some fantastic operators out there and then there are some that can ruin a fishing trip. Many guys like myself can't afford to get away more than once or twice a year and to end up booked with an outfit that doesn't provide you with a good experience can be a real bummer. It is understood that fishing is fishing and the fish don't always bite but when you book a trip what you should be able to expect is a professional operator, clean, serviced accomodations that are in reasonably good shape and reasonable help and opportunity to catch fish. From what I have read in the past about this outfit, this isn't the case. "retarded" might be a little harsh though!
  18. As long as people stick to the rules and release them I can't see a lot of harm being done, as for the pan fish it is just going to take somne time and work to figure them out.
  19. Spent a lot of time exploring this weekend, fished shallow, fished deep looked for suspended fish, tried minnows, grubs, and maggots. All we could manage were a few perch and several walleye although I did get bitten off twice, not a line break, cut off. I figure thay might have been muskie. I talked to a lot of other people fishing over a wide range of conditions and water depths, same story all a round, walleye but little else. I'm not sure what or where to try next but you can be sure I'll keep trying, they have to be here some where. Oh well, a weekend fishing with my son and it really doesn't matter how many fish we catch, it was still a fantastic weekend and it sure is nice to be able to get out on this lake and try. It is really nice to see all the other fisher people out on the lake with their kids and enjoying the winter. I've already met a lot of really nice people!
  20. Super report, thanks for sharing!
  21. Excellent report Mike! Good on you!
  22. Well, I got to check out Long Beach, Ball Point, and a couple of huts in Goose Bay, every one I talked to had the same luck, no fish. We have the kids with us today so we'll stick close to home but tomorrow afternoon my son and I will be going deep and see what that brings for us.
  23. Sausages, sausages, sausages. Try to get some sausages, they have been by far the most popular thing in the past.
  24. I have never used mine in 80' of water but what I did do was use a tie wrap, put it through the hole near the tail and around the cable so that the camera points straight down. That works really well for me because it gives me a straight shot down and you never have to worry about turning the camera. I just adjust the camera so that I can see my bait and then anything that comes even close, I can see.
  25. Thank you! I do know of a spot exactly as you describe and will give it a shot today. I'll let you know how that works for us.
