  1. It has been set aside for future development as part of the Ontario Living Legacy project a few years back. There are many, many areas around the province that have been designated as such. It's hard to say whether it ever will be developed.
  2. Being a local guy, Cameron Lake is 15 minutes away, I will take a good look todays paper to see if the incident was picked up by the local press. If it wasn't, it begs the question, just how did a Toronto based media agent get wind of it?
  3. What's so funny about that picture? I tow my Lund with my Sentra, you wouldn't even know I had a trailer on behind me. Been all over the place with it. My motto is, if they make a hitch for it, it'll tow.
  4. If there was ever a player who was money on faceoffs, it was Peter. Peace be with you.
  5. Seriously? Wow, simply wow.
  6. I came in kind of late to the discussion obviously, but just a thought here. Maybe the incident was sparked because the gentlemen who were fishing were keeping everything they were catching (or more than what the man deemed adequate) and it has nothing to do with race at all. I know they or anyone is well within the law to keep all of those types of fish, but it has been brought up on this board a few times, that even for panfish, maybe there should be limits. Maybe the guy has strong beliefs about keeping the fishery in tact on "his" lake and went about it the wrong way. I don't know what the man's motivation was and I'm pretty sure that until he was asked to his face none of us on this board know either. Sometimes it seems all too convenient to bring out the race card to try and rationalize someone's behaviour, maybe the reason he never approached the boat filled with caucasions is because they weren't keeping many of the fish they were keeping. Maybe the incident has more to do with conservation than race.
  7. Why I fired my Secretary. Last week was my birthday and I didn't feel very well waking up on that morning. I went downstairs for breakfast hoping my wife would be pleasant and say, "Happy Birthday!", and possibly have a small present for me. As it turned out, she barely said good morning, let alone " Happy Birthday." I thought... Well, that's marriage for you, but the kids.... They will remember. My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast and didn't say a word. So when I left for the office , I felt pretty low and somewhat despondent. As I walked into my office , my secretary Jane said, "Good Morning Boss, and by the way Happy Birthday ! " It felt a little better that at least someone had remembered. I worked until one o'clock , when Jane knocked on my door and said, "You know, It's such a beautiful day outside, and it is your Birthday, what do you say we go out to lunch, just you and me." I said, "Thanks, Jane, that's the greatest thing I've heard all day. Let's go !" We went to lunch. But we didn't go where we normally would go. She chose instead a quiet bistro with a private table. We had two martinis each and I enjoyed the meal tremendously. On the way back to the office , Jane said, "You know, It's such a beautiful day... We don't need to go straight back to the office , Do We ?" I responded, "I guess not. What do you have in mind ?" She said, "Let's drop by my apartment, it's just around the corner." After arriving at her apartment, Jane turned to me and said, " Boss, if you don't mind, I'm going to step into the bedroom for just a moment. I'll be right back." "Ok." I nervously replied. She went into the bedroom and, after a couple of minutes, she came out carrying a huge birthday cake ... Followed by my wife, my kids, and dozens of my friends and co-workers, all singing "Happy Birthday". And I just sat there... On the couch... Naked.
  8. If I was her father, it wouldn't take me 10 seconds. A very sad day indeed, my condolences to the family.
  9. Let's talk about fishing ok?
  10. I think this discussion got a way out of hand. I don't know anyone who would change price tags on an item, besides you can't anyway, the price of something is built into the bar code, not the sticker. And bringing murder into this discussion is simply ridiculous, even as an example. All I did and will do again, is have the price on a receipt marked lower than the actual payment price. So the government got maybe $50 less dollars than they should have, if that. Sure I know it's wrong, but so is rolling through a stop sign on a country road when my car is the only one in sight. Do you think anyone, including the government truly cares?
  11. But you talked about spearing pike, not about stealing from my grandmother. Net letting the government know just exactly how much I paid for a boat and spearing pike are indeed apples and oranges. I know what your point was and to be honest with you I am completely baffled as to why this discussion has gone on as long as it has. My original post on this was to let the guy know that there are ways to keep some money in his his pocket, just in case he had never thought of it and I used myself as an example. Call it a public service message.
  12. Now why would I, or anyone for that matter, pay half as much again for a boat than what it's book value is? I'm not Balsillie, I would never pay more than what it is actually worth. And as far as how costly setting up a book value program would, one only has to look at the gun registry to see how certain things can spiral out of control. The bottom line is, the more we can keep government out of our pockets, the better off we'll be.
  13. Ya I suppose it's illegal, oh well. What they don't know won't hurt them, or me. Impossible to trace after this amount of time.
  14. What kind of response is that? Obviously he does, or he wouldn't be asking.
  15. Good luck. I'm sitting up here on Mary St right now with the boat all hooked up, ready to go. Going to try my honey hole in the morning before the heavy weather settles in.
  16. I think this only applies when the boat has numbers on it, so a motor larger than 10 hp. My current boat has a 25 on it, I bought it off my brother, he made the receipts out for much less than what I actually paid for it, $500 for each, even though I paid $3000 for the whole package. That way, you don't have to pay as much tax.
  17. How much are going to be paying? I'm no expert, but I would say pay cash for the boat and motor (no tax), you may only have to pay tax on the trailer when you transfer the ownership over at the licence bureau.
  18. I live in Lindsay and fish Sturgeon fairly regularly, I launch at Kennedy Bay across the lake from Long Beach. I was out Tuesday night for a little troll along Long Beach, up towards Fenelon. Found some fish and marked a lot more in 10-12 feet around new weed growth. All fish were caught on #7 shad raps, trolled slow using my electric. Maybe we can meet up sometime, possibly Big Cliff as well; it’s been a few years since I’ve seen him.
  19. Got out for a little over 2 hours last evening, managed 2 bass, 2 bluegill, 2 perch and 2 pickerel, one of which is now frozen in my freezer. Everything was caught trolling #7 shad raps, chartreuse and perch, in 10-12 feet of water near new weed growth Water temp out from the west shore (Long Beach) ranged from 54.5° to 55.5°. Water temp along the south shore around Kennedy Bay was around 58°. Still pretty chilly. Mighty nice to be out.
  20. Was there last year first week of June. The lake is great, beautiful, very unpopulated with lots of places to fish. Red Cedar Lake camp however is a different story. It's an alright place, the cabins are a little run down and a little too close together for my liking, but you get what you pay for. The owner can be a bit of a knob to deal with, he was ok with me as I was the organizer for our group and was handling the money, but most of the rest of our gang had very different things to say about him. One thing to watch for with him, is his general lack of desire to get boats ready for you if you have some set aside to rent. Not sure what his problem was the weekend we were there, but he tried getting extra money of a few of our guys, gas was really expensive at that time, so maybe he felt he wasn't getting enough for them, not sure. If that was the case, then he should have been charging more for them. When two of our guys finally got him to get their boat, which they had pre-booked, the motor broke down on them half way out the bay, I had to go tow them in. In general I would rank it 2 stars out of 5 on the satisfaction scale. I would however highly recommend Mountain Home Lodge, just a little farther down the highway. My family and I stayed there last September, night and day when comparing the owners and general layout of the cottages etc.
  21. Now all Americans have to do is figure out which way is North.
  22. Ya, exactly where you are working on it, somewhere around the middle seat, or between the rear seat and the middle seat. I've see a couple like that over the years and once when I was looking to buy a boat, I had someone tell to stay away from them because of that fault. I was never told the exact reason why they do it, just that it was common. Obviously a manufacturing issue.
  23. A previous owner may have hit something to cause the damage to the boat. But I know those older springboks were famous for splitting around midship.
  24. Great stuff, thanks very much.
