Making the Plunge - BRAID ... always use Fluroro leaders?
big guy replied to MSBruno's topic in General Discussion
And that's fine, everyone has their opinion. The way I look at it, for the recreational angler, I really don't find it necessary. I use Ande, because it great line, it's virtually disappears underwater because of it's colour (green) and because it's cheap. And besides, with mono, you don't have to go screwing around with tying on floro leaders and all that crap. -

Stick with mono and put the money you save into more rods, reels and lures. -
I am heading for Belmont Lake for the opener and was wondering if anyone knew if the local marinas in the area carried a contour map of the lake. I would get one from Adventure Maps, but they don't have a online system of ordering, so the process is incredibly slow. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The key word in all of this is in the 8th line... "reported". Don't kid yourself, the statistics don't tell the whole truth.

Thanks for the info, that helps a lot. Obviously if people fish there, there are fish to be had. -

My family is contemplating a move, we live in Lindsay and have interest in moving just outside of town a bit. My boys are getting to the age now that I am thinking of bringing the ice hut out of mothball. So, I was wondering if anyone has a hut on Scugog during the winter and access the lake through the Ball Point area near Valentia? Or, is there any other access in that area such as Glassford Road? Any info would be a great help. Edit: A quick drive out that way yesterday revealed a great access point at Sand Bar Park. Does anybody put a hut out from that location? Once again thanks.

To all you non-believers. My boat is a 14' Lund Big Fisherman, no floor (I took it out after I bought it), Minn Kota transom mount and a deep cycle, with a 25 hp Merc 2 stroke, both are 1994 models. The only other noticeable weight is the gas tank and me (250 lbs). I had the motor tuned and carbs cleaned this spring and it is running awesome, it'll also troll down so slow that the speed does not even register. My brother-in-law has a Lund Pike with a 40 hp on it and his graph says it will go 30 mph. On opening day on Moira Lake I easily pulled away from him, no contest. I am not sure if the speed is completely accurate, but it's probably pretty close. Let me tell you, when I open it up, it flies, I can go from Kennedy Bay to Sturgeon Point in no time.

I just bought a 717 model and have been very impressed so far. The clarity and resolution is amazing. I haven't used it in a fishing situation as of yet, just installed it and have done a couple of test runs to make sure I had the transducer located correctly etc. But man, what a difference compared to my 13 year old Magna II. I also like the fact that it's GPS ready. I also bought the speed/temp gauge for it, never had that before. When I took it out on the first test run, the boat got up to 42 mph running across Sturgeon in a chop... I was blown away. I thought the boat did probably 30 (14' Lund with a 25 Merc) but 42 really surprised me. Heading up to Marten River on Friday for 4 days of serious R&R and fishing, can't wait to see how the new graph performs.

If you ask me, Bass Pro has really gone downhill over the last 2 years or so. Poor service, lack of stock are the main things to me. On the flip side, Lebaron has way more stuff in than they use to have, they pretty well always have the shelves stocked and their prices on many items, especially graphs, are as low or lower. Case in point, picked myself up a Humminbird 717 on Saturday, $6 cheaper than BPS. They seem to be friendlier than they used to be as well, more willing to help if you need it.

I have the same unit, it works great, no problems so far. I like the fact that you can charge at a high rate, but when it gets close to being charged it automatically lowers the amp rate. It also very compact and light compared to most chargers. Buy it.

What a complete clown. Yes most cops are very courteous, but that's the problem with this video. This portrays a person who is anything BUT a policeman, it portrays a wannabe, a glorified meter-maid. He's just mad because he's wearing shorts and something resembling a car. Personally, police should wear a "uniform" not something that looks like they're going to a bar-b-que. Get some pants and a hat on.

No, it's a pastime, a hobby and in a lot of cases an excuse to get away from the wife for a while. As to the question whether or not Pro Fisherman are athletes, good god. All I have to say is, do Bob Izumi, Darryl Cronzy, or Dave Mercer look like athletes?

Ok, let me weigh in on this... Sundin and Kaberle MUST go. They will bring the most return for the buck, problem is Sundin has the no trade and Kaberle has a limited trade time built into his contract, meaning the Leafs would generally not be able to trade him except for a window of opportunity in the summer. Bottom line though is that they HAVE to convince these guys that's it's going to be a looonnnnnngggggg time before there is a winning team in TO. The rest of the slugs, McCabe, Blake and Kubina, there isn't much you can do with them, cause nobody wants them and their inflated salaries. Kubina and Blake could be waived and shipped to the minors, thus their salaries won't count against the cap and those are the types of decisions that MUST be made in order to right the ship. Ferguson simply was unable to take advantage of the provisions of the salary cap, either he wouldn't or he was too stupid. Steve Simmons wrote a great article in the Sun today outlining the incompetence of Junior. Sadly though, the incompetence runs rampant at MLSE and goes all the way to the top. Peddie is a fool, yes he knows how to make money, but his ego won't let him step aside and let a REAL hockey man do the job and Tannenbaum has his meddling finger in every decision. These guys need to shut the hell up and let somebody else do the job. The fact that Peddie once again will be head up the search committee to a find another new GM (he did a great job the last time didn't he?) is not good news and proves things will likely never change.

Nah, I never worry about the Yanks when it comes to hockey.

Oh no I'm not... My Director's TV is on and all I have to do is turn my chair around to see it through the door. Life is sweet.

I'm a "public" servant and I get it off. I think it's a good thing, contrary to what most are saying. The more time away from work... the better.

Good lord, now I've heard everything. I can almost except it for very late season when the water is cold, but in the summer!!! Maybe I'll leave the camera at home and bring a bat instead... smarten some of these people up a little.
