  1. The immediate area around the ferry can be both deep and shallow and weedy as you fish closer to shore. In my past experience you should definitely catch perch quite easily, but Walleye you'll have to work for. Try the east shore line from the ferry if you don't want to venture far for Walleye. I've seen a few get pulled out there.
  2. For about that price the Daiwa Megaforce rod is a lot of quality for the dollar. Gagnon carries it as do several local shops but I did not see it as BPS. http://www.daiwafreshwaterfishingrods.com/megaforce%AE.htm
  3. Hey everyone, Wondering if someone here can help me figure out what oil I need to unwinterize a 9.9 Chrysler Outboard motor. I'm not sure of the year but its pretty old, probably from the '70s. I have access to the boat this weekend but need to fill it with oil. I did it several years ago but can't remember exactly what oil to use. I do remember it being blue and the container resembling the narrow cylinder bottle of gear oil. If anyone is familiar with this older motor and can help identify what oil I need to fill it up with, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance, -j
  4. Nice Brown! Good job man.
  5. I'm sure you've found that trying to reason with someone with such strong beliefs is like trying to convince a religious fundamentalist that anything they hold as "fact" is debatable, much less even wrong. It's clear that humans used to be like every other animal struggling for survival and killing was part of it. It's fact. Yet people like such act as though we were put on the earth mere decades ago to all the luxuries we enjoy today, including not having to kill to survive. D.C Reid, a fishing writer, summed up this perspective well: "We live in a world, now, where most of us never had the life of another creature in our hands. We do not regularly kill. Remember though, before the 1950s most people had their own cows and chickens and when they wanted dinner, they butchered an animal. Every person knew that today's roast came from a stunned cow strung up by the sinews of its hind leg, its throat slashed so the blood could seep out in its copiousness. That is the way of the world. For many to things to live, they must kill other animals or plants. But over the decades, the activity of butchering has more and more become the basis of business rather than a killing each of us must do. Our meat comes to us in sanitized, in clinical foam trays, with bright labels for payment. The meat is clean, neat, attractive. No guts. No hair disfiguring the cut. No sawdust. No crap. We have become separated from ourselves, separated from the reality that living necessitates killing. Thus today, those who wish others to stop killing fish or other animals can sway opinion because all of us have become distanced from the killing our lives necessarily involve." There will always be those who can observe the wider perspective and those who believe they have the complete picture with only a view through narrow cracks. By understanding where this person is coming from, as many members here already do, your wider perspective already has you two steps ahead.
  6. You could send those pictures to CP24, I'm sure that would make for an interesting story when they bring their cameras down there.
  7. I went with the Saros but bought the Tierra first and returned it. The pin in the retrieve handle would slide out with use and it almost fell out when I first noticed it. After clamping it back in, it still continued to work itself out, so I returned it. Research online revealed it was a issue for other owners and a quick look at the other Tierras and Excelers at BPS also had protruding reel pins. So keep an eye on yours as you use it (if you get it). Look at both the Exceler and Tierras at BPS when you go to see what I'm talking about. It was a good thing I noticed it early as I was out on the boat when I nearly lost it.
  8. Thanks guys. I definitely have some spots marked on the GPS and will check it out. Hoping to make the most of my 3 days up there and also hope to have a report when I get back.
  9. Hi guys, I am heading up to Spanish, Ontario this weekend to help a friend fix up a home/cottage that has been recently vandalized by locals. Since I'm up there I hope to dip some lines and catch a few fish and wondering if anyone can point me in general areas near and around Spanish. I've never been up to the area and my friend is a rookie when it comes to fishing, so we're hoping we can find some action in between some long stints of work. Here's where I'll be going: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=...5a5cda10d45eafe Thanks in advance! -j
  10. Nice fish, love the colours.
  11. I heard this tip and wonder if anyone can verify its legitimacy. If you have to freeze a fish for later consumption, to preserve its flavor you should freeze it in the water from the body of water it was caught. Anyone heard of this practice?
  12. Sorry to hear this happened to you. I've experienced it before and while they may not say anything specifically to you regarding race, their attitude, actions, demeanor and tone does everything but. If some members are seroius about dipping some lines there, I'm in.
  13. Thanks for the report. I like looking at pictures, but videos really get my fishing itch going.
  14. Intersex Largemouth Bass. Six-legged frogs with both female and male organs. Found this great documentary on the effect of humans on our water systems. With all the recent concern from some members about fish handling, OOS pictures, unphotoshoped reports and their potential impact on our fisheries, this program shows that while all of aforementioned topics are important and deserve our attention, the impact of our behavior from leaving behind garbage and indirect habits such as using certain soaps have a far greater influence on the survival of the eco-systems we all use to exercise our passion. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/poisonedwaters/view/
  15. If anyone is wondering, I found that these patches are available at Canadian Tire under the name Deerfly Patch.
  16. Great job Sinker, couldn't of happened to a nicer guy! Next time I'm out in BC I'm gonna have to give that a try. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Great job MJL, those are some really nice fish.
  18. Great job on achieving more than your first brookie!
  19. Wish the game last night was a bit closer! Definitely the Capitals rely much more on Ovetchkin than Pittsburgh relies on Crosby to win has they have guys like Malkin and Guerin who are great especially the former. The way Ovetchkin has transformed that team, and how he has helped turn that city into a hockey lovin town is truly a great story.
  20. Nice catch. Indeed a rare thing to see on the Islands.
  21. Now that's sweet.
  22. Justin, Thanks for your concern, but please don't jump to conclusions. The last two fish were caught while standing on 3 foot+ banks so I had to get down low with a net to land them. As a result doing a water release was not possible.
  23. Sorry for the late post, but Silverstreak told me not to put the pin away and last Sunday I took his advice. The pay-off was three nice fish out of 5 in just a few hours of fishing. Water was quite muddy, but trying a few trick I was able to coax a few steel on the run. Here's a fiesty male that put up a very nice fight. This hen took me for a nice long run downstream in a strong current and went straight under a long overhanging tree and appeared about 8 feet on the other side. Had to keep the rod tip way low in the water to keep it from getting all tangled up. Lost one previously after it ran under a big log and jumped out on the other side, so I was extra determined not to fall victim to another tree. Luckily I got it to shore. Here's another spunky male.
  24. Since you guys brought this up, I've had a similar situation. Often when I go out on the boat, a friend wants to come. He doesn't fish, doesn't like to fish, but just wants to be on the boat and take pictures. Does he need to have a license? (I've always assumed he does to be safe since CO's probably hear that excuse a lot when approaching people trying to hide the fact)
  25. Managed to get a few Steelhead yesterday, water was super clear so they were easily spooked. Approaching with stealth was the trick. Had to work hard for these fish and I think I'm finally going to acknowledge that the fall wait is about to begin .
